Fri, 20 Jan 2017 07:56:00 -0600As the world turns another page in history we would be mindful to not only remember the past but actually learn from it. To often man has failed to understand the lessons that history is supposed to teach us. As a new President is about to take his place on the world's stage we are often reminded of great hero's that through their deeds accomplished great and marvelous things.
Thu, 19 Jan 2017 13:09:55 -0600Darkness is associated with a number of unpleasant things. When we are in the dark, we tend to move slowly or wander aimlessly. We tend to be scared in the dark, mainly because we can't see the dangers that would be apparent if it were light. There is something about darkness that makes us scared.
Mon, 16 Jan 2017 09:05:23 -0600The Church is not to be the spiritual babysitter of the Believer, but a worshiping, teaching, preaching center of spiritual growth. It is to be a place of praising, instructing, and heralding God's word in an atmosphere of holiness. The Believer has a responsibility that will reflect on not only his life but the church as well.
Sun, 15 Jan 2017 11:06:40 -0600You have probably heard the phrase "What's in a name?" from time to time. Names mean different things to different people. In the reading we heard from John 1:29-42 a few minutes ago, we heard some of the names given to Jesus and given by Jesus.
Fri, 13 Jan 2017 08:17:49 -0600Keep on believing that very person has a belief button and that he or she will switch it on one day. Keep hoping that others will start believing. Keep on hoping that the light will be switched on in their lives some time and that they will rise with us one day.
Thu, 12 Jan 2017 12:58:22 -0600What happens at Death? The Jehovah's Witnesses think they have found the answer.
Mon, 09 Jan 2017 08:22:10 -0600Is our prayer and monetary giving a memorial unto the Lord? Does God remember the actions of our faith filled prayers and giving? When faith ushers our petitions into the throne room of God, He anticipates that our actions will accompany our requests.
Fri, 06 Jan 2017 11:40:40 -0600If you have never visited a Kingdom Hall, here is your chance. I have no desire to promote the Jehovah's Witness movement. Far from it. In fact, quite the opposite. May you be guided with discernment as you read.
Fri, 06 Jan 2017 07:46:26 -0600Now, suddenly, Jehovah God showed up. The throne of no disappointment! He began to speak and move in their midst. He immediately gave Moses instructions and directions. The pillars of fire and cloud began to re-align. My God! Divine confusion took over the camp of their enemies as God miraculously path the sea for them to escape. And more interestingly is that the same instrument of escape for them because the instrument of extermination of their enemies. Watching this commando-style deliverance, Moses and Israel instantaneously burst into songs of victory. I see you singing from now in the name of Jesus! It shall be like a dream. It shall happen suddenly! Listen, God is doing for you exactly what He did for Israel at the shores of the Red Sea. Look at the way of escape that is already created for you. Yes, it will happen suddenly. Get ready! You will soon say like Moses and Israel that the LORD has become your strength, your song and your victory! Praise God! Nothing will stop this celebration in your life this year. It is your time of victory! God bless you!
Fri, 06 Jan 2017 07:43:13 -0600A. A. Milne had Christopher Robin saying his prayers in his popular children's books about the teddy bear, Winnie the Pooh, but he was writing for a readership that was much more culturally homogeneous than exists for authors today. In England in the 1920s, there was almost no one who dared to whisper during this long-established and almost universally-practised bedtime ritual, and those who did whisper probably felt guilty about it. However, in modern times, the native English have largely abandoned their traditional religion and the large immigrant communities take their diverse alternative faiths very seriously, making life much more difficult for the authors of children's books.
Thu, 05 Jan 2017 15:03:02 -0600Jesus' First Advent, also known as Christmas is easy to prepare for, because we know it is always on December 25th. Nobody, but God knows when His Second Advent is going to be. Since we don't know the exact date for the Second Advent, it is wise to prepare now in anticipation for that event--believe in the name of Jesus Christ. He paid for your sins!
Wed, 04 Jan 2017 23:03:26 -0600The recent disasters of the British Brexit referendum and the US presidential election have brought renewed calls for better education. It is argued that if people were better educated they would make better choices in electing leaders as well as be more productive in the economic sphere. Education teaches one to look at all sides of an issue, carefully weigh the evidence and come to an objective conclusion. It encourages compromise, avoiding conflict by seeking solutions that benefit both parties in a dispute. However, in encouraging flexibility of thought, higher education directly opposes the tenets of religion as propounded by fundamentalists. Many minds are set against acquiring new knowledge because all they need to know is already revealed in their holy book.

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 08:30:10 -0600Hebrews 4:14 "therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess". Hebrews 10:23 "let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful". Have you ever been faced with a challenge where it seems as if you are almost losing your faith in God?
Thu, 29 Dec 2016 11:37:39 -0600After the foundation was laid by Russell and Rutherford, several other men, in succession, have presided over the Jehovah's Witnesses. Here is a little of their story.
Thu, 29 Dec 2016 08:39:32 -0600Ganesha is the God of prosperity, good luck success, remover of hurdles and destroyer of sins. However The idols placed at certain points in the house generate more positive vibrations, such placement benefits the entire household. Even the colors of the idols emit a kind of vibration.
Tue, 27 Dec 2016 11:32:58 -0600My deepest thoughts are with the families of the slain. It is time to stop all forms of terrorism and barbarism.
Tue, 27 Dec 2016 09:11:26 -0600Robert Maynard Pirsig, an American writer and philosopher, says "when one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion". The Oxford dictionary defines the word delusion as "an idiosyncratic belief or impression maintained despite being contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder". Does that mean the people who believe in the existence of the God almighty are all suffering from delusions? Well, it is a difficult question to answer. However, it is extremely difficult to prove the existence of God. The clergymen, who are the middlemen between the God and the humans, keep saying that God is very much existent, but to be able to perceive his presence one needs to be spiritually enlightened. And, people like me remain under the impression that may be I'm not spiritually enlightened enough to see him and that is why he is invisible to me.
Tue, 27 Dec 2016 08:23:21 -0600Philosophical concepts that surround life, the universe and everything, including those realms of theology, religions and the nature of deities continue to fascinate. Opinions proliferate. There's the theist pro side; there's the atheist anti-side. There aren't too many fence-sitters. I'm still in the anti-theist camp as the following tenth helping of "Religious Bits and Pieces" illustrate.
Sun, 25 Dec 2016 17:17:36 -0600Often, the consistency of what we do within organized religion takes precedence over the direction of God individually and corporately. We must remain open to the direction of the Lord in all things.
Thu, 22 Dec 2016 13:15:25 -0600Tradition has always been the catalyst to Biblically based initiatives. But what happens when those traditions fail to truly represent what the Scripture teaches?
Thu, 22 Dec 2016 09:07:45 -0600Navratri, is amongst the most popular Hindu festivals and is celebrated in various parts of India, and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Navratri literally means 'nine nights' and this festival is a celebration of feminine divinity, also referred to as Shakti. Each night of this festival is dedicated to one of the nine forms of Goddess.
Wed, 21 Dec 2016 07:12:25 -0600Joseph Franklin Rutherford. President, 1917-1942 Joseph Franklin Rutherford (November 8, 1869 - January 8, 1942) was raised by a farm family in Missouri. He was the second president of the Jehovah's Witnesses, or the third, or the first.
Mon, 19 Dec 2016 07:39:29 -0600Believers today are drawn to imitate the faith of so many personalities in the Scripture, but fail to include the actions of a young teenage girl called Mary. She defied all human reasoning to believe in the humanly impossible words of a special messenger. Then there was Joseph who followed the Divine direction without hesitation.
Mon, 19 Dec 2016 07:00:59 -0600Is there an afterlife? Ah, the philosophical questions of life and death, and honorable topic that most wish not to contemplate. Still, Greek Philosophers had pondered the 5-most important questions asked by men, and one of them of course is; "what happens to me after I die?" Well, wouldn't you like to know, I say with a smile? Interesting how others with religious connotations attempt to answer this question for us, and allow us eternal life if we submit to their authority. Well, some think this is a good trade off, although I must admit I am not one of them.
Mon, 19 Dec 2016 06:59:54 -0600Why do some people wish to spoil Christmas Holidays for others? Over the years I've heard atheists say that public religious symbols should not be displayed. Why, I ask? Who is it hurting and if it makes people happy, so be it. The other day, I discussed this with a deist and he didn't think it was a problem to have a pledge of allegiance with the word "god" in it, nor do I, as I see it as a pledge that something big and grand is part of what makes this nation so special and great. The theory of a god or prime move would be something truly awesome right? So, then it makes sense to me even if you don't believe in a god or gods yourself.
Sat, 17 Dec 2016 10:53:30 -0600If you watch or read atheist - theist debates, you'll quickly note that the arguments and discussions tend to fall into a rather general pattern. Albeit with some degree of prejudice from the anti-theist point of view, I present that overall pattern in a condensed form. This is after all an essay and not a book (easily achievable)!
Thu, 15 Dec 2016 09:13:12 -0600Remember those popular groups we used to have in school? Have you ever walked through the doors of a church and felt as if you had walked into the wrong popular group?
Wed, 14 Dec 2016 10:41:18 -0600When you think leadership, what comes to your mind? For me it is someone that steps forward and takes charge or maybe is just there helping those that need help and in that they lead those people. Leadership can be a very tricky thing in our society because there is so many different types of leaders.
Tue, 13 Dec 2016 13:20:28 -0600Questions and doubts swirl around this 19th century man. Modern "Witnesses" deny him altogether, but history is clear: Charles Taze Russell laid the groundwork for the cult known as "The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society". That name, by the way, was the name Russell gave to the organization!
Tue, 13 Dec 2016 08:28:12 -0600I hope that one day we can all stand with Paul and look back on our lives and shake our heads in wonder at how God was able to make a difference in the world through us.Maybe you're just as surprised as Paul and wonder how God can hit a clean shot with such crooked sticks like yourself and Paul. But if He could use a Christian killer so powerfully, nothing is impossible for Him. Remember: It is not from your own strength. It was not Paul's own strength that brought him there. It was God who did everything in and through him.
Mon, 12 Dec 2016 08:52:01 -0600We serve an almighty God. A God who loves His children so much that He is prepared to sacrifice His life as God and King to become human, so that He could die on a cross for their sins. A God who could not be boxed in by death.
Mon, 12 Dec 2016 08:49:49 -0600The subject of healing has been one of the most hotly discussed subjects in the Christian community. Is healing for today or is it a dispensational issue? Has the reality of Biblical healing continued to transcend the generational boundaries? How did Jesus' ministry center around His miracles? What does the Bible really teach on this subject?
Sun, 11 Dec 2016 19:03:48 -0600Just as I was wondering where all this money had come from, I heard the voice of the Lord say "Don't worry, it's yours!" It was then that my eyes were opened in the spirit to see numerous angels flying all over the city depositing large sums of money into the saints bank accounts.
Fri, 09 Dec 2016 14:54:28 -0600Have you ever been in a situation where people did not live up to the hopes and expectations you had for them? If so, you can probably understand why John the Baptist was confused in the reading we heard from Matthew's Gospel.
Fri, 09 Dec 2016 14:51:37 -0600Nothing comes from nothing. The Witnesses had to have a first cause, a spark. Here are some of the persons behind this worldwide movement.
Thu, 08 Dec 2016 08:27:53 -0600This is what God did for us through Jesus. He allowed Jesus to die on the cross so that we didn't have to be punished for all the sins that we have committed. This summarises what we believe. This is all that we have to remember, just this: Jesus took our punishment.
Wed, 07 Dec 2016 07:11:42 -0600Christianity has failed to become the world's universal religion but Christmas is well on the way to becoming a universal commercial festival. In Vietnam, a Communist country with a Buddhist traditional culture, Christianity is a minor residue of the French colonial era, but the shops sell Christmas trees, the sales staff wear little red Father Christmas hats and the background music includes crooning versions of Christmas carols. Businesses work hard to promote the event as a shopping bonanza even though the population at large is trying to save its money for the much more popular Tet holiday to follow in the new year.
Tue, 06 Dec 2016 13:29:28 -0600Simple message: Be on the lookout! Be on your guard! Keep going! Walk towards God! That is the only direction you should go!
Tue, 06 Dec 2016 08:10:09 -0600What image comes to your mind when hearing the name Jesus Christ? Some picture passive weakness. Others see those renowned images of a fair-haired, blue-eyed, feminine Anglo; images seemingly influenced by the illegitimate son of Pope Alexander VI, Cesare Borgia, a 16th century Spanish-Italian.
Mon, 05 Dec 2016 14:49:28 -0600If you have any confusion about a particular teaching, read about it in the Bible. Because if you know what is in the scriptures you will never be confused.
Mon, 05 Dec 2016 13:17:44 -0600William Shakespeare poetically said, "A rose by other name smells as sweet." The theme of this line from "Romeo and Juliet" can be applied differently to say that, Mormon polytheistic theology by any other name, such as "deification" proves to be as heretical and unchristian. For when did the Salt Lake City, Utah Mormon hierarchy begin using the term "deification" to apply to worthy Mormon elders becoming Mormon father-gods, with a capital G? Was the term "deification" used in the 19th and 20th Centuries to equate Mormon polytheism, or is it a 21st Century apologetic response to the Internet publication of the 1984 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide Lesson-21 "Man May Become Like God." Read on for an explication of this issue...
Mon, 05 Dec 2016 11:29:31 -0600The nice, zealous, earnest folks that show up at your door from time to time may have a deficit or two. Are they really "Witnesses" of "Jehovah", or something else?
Mon, 05 Dec 2016 07:23:10 -0600Maybe we should decide to let love live again. Maybe I should be the least and pour a little water on the roots of wilted love. Love will get up again! Love never dies!
Mon, 05 Dec 2016 07:22:33 -0600One of the things that I enjoy doing to watching people. Actually, what I do is play a little game. The object of my fantasy experiment is to guess if someone is a Christian or not. I know this might seems to border on judgment, but it is just a game with no ill intent.
Sat, 03 Dec 2016 08:00:33 -0600In a world full of hurt and pain, Isaiah reminds us that we are children of God. We as Christians have seen the fulfillment of the hope promised by the Second Coming, so we can and should proclaim this passage from Isaiah as our hope for salvation peace to be realized in the future.
Thu, 01 Dec 2016 13:57:23 -0600Love always looks for that little bit of good in others. Together with hope, love looks for the potential in others. Together with hope, love believes there is a little bit of good in everyone, even if they have messed up again. Love builds bridges where there has always been an abyss between people. Love breaks down boundaries and tries one more time.
Thu, 01 Dec 2016 13:46:51 -0600We all know about the "Three Wise Men" in the Christmas story. Actually, the Bible does not say how many wise men came, just that wise men brought three gifts to the Holy Family. We assume three gifts equal three wise men. Not necessarily. It was a nice thing for those wise men to do, perhaps a socially accepted thing to do in that age. But I see a greater purpose that is not so obvious. Let me show it to you.
Thu, 01 Dec 2016 13:46:12 -0600Solomon ended his book of Proverbs describing an exceptional woman. She has become known as "the Proverbs 31 Woman" by the biblically literate. Though the story focuses on that woman, there is a man in the story that is often missed. If you do not know him, allow me to introduce you to him. He is an important character.
Tue, 29 Nov 2016 13:38:32 -0600Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth. Too easy to point a finger at someone else, forgetting about the three pointing back at yourself.
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 08:51:46 -0600Radio host and Christian Apologist Bob Dutko has given ten proofs for God's existence, which is five more than professional philosopher and theologian William Lane Craig gave! Anyway, here are Dutko's ten arguments for God and my rebuttal to them.
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 08:51:27 -0600But love breaks down boundaries. Love swims against the stream. Love makes you behave differently from normal people out there.
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 08:47:34 -0600Why is it when we have been offended or feel that we have, we take it out on our relationship with God? Why is it that we take more seriously the words of people than the Word of God? How can what people say have more influence than what God says?
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 08:31:23 -0600Even if I'm devout and give away everything I own, no, even more, even if I'm nailed on a cross giving my life for the cause, but the people around me do not see my love, it's useless. Then we're not on the love bus.
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 08:10:31 -0600Philosophical concepts that surround life, the universe and everything, including those realms of theology, religions and the nature of deities continue to fascinate. I'm still in the anti-camp as the following ninth helping of "Religious Bits and Pieces" illustrate.
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 08:02:57 -0600When Jesus returns, will we recognize him? The only way to know for certain is to get lots of practice doing what he wants us to do. In other words, we are to show his love to a hurting world be serving the less fortunate.
Tue, 22 Nov 2016 10:01:45 -0600Find your talent and look after it. Develop it. Use it to make a difference. Remember: the idea is to work towards the benefit of others - where you stay, work or play or any other place where the Lord may send you.
Tue, 22 Nov 2016 10:01:24 -0600Father, thank you for giving me gifts. I know I've hidden them sometimes, but the time has come to take them out, dust them off and use them to make an impact in your new world. Take my hand and show me how to use them. Amen.
Mon, 21 Nov 2016 13:25:31 -0600Every building has a firm foundation. Without it, the building would fall down. Similarly, our faith has to have a firm foundation. That foundation is Jesus. Anything else will fail-even the church.
Mon, 21 Nov 2016 10:09:53 -0600Diet preaching has caused many people to become dissatisfied with their church. Some members are even searching for a church were they offer deeper teachings. Why is there such a divergence to preaching/teaching?
Mon, 21 Nov 2016 08:54:22 -0600Christians, True Believers one and all (well most anyway) believe that Christianity is the be-all-and-end-all of theology - the one and only one true religion. True Believers belonging to hundreds of other religions would of course take issue with that Christian point of view. They have good reason to do so.
Fri, 18 Nov 2016 07:10:35 -0600It was difficult for the people of Corinth to accept that one receives a glorified body after death. I still remember how afraid I was and how strange it was for me to leave my mom behind at Youngsfield when I had to get on the train for two years' army training.
Tue, 15 Nov 2016 08:18:09 -0600Every successful government must be fully able to address the problems faced by its subjects. It is, however, regrettable to know that the various forms of government have failed as humans in their attempt to arrest their maladies. Humans have tried autocracy, democracy and other forms of governance, but all of them have not been able to hit the needy spot of mankind. Thus, clearly outspoken, humans cannot govern themselves because we were not given that responsibility by our creator.
Mon, 14 Nov 2016 14:09:38 -0600Sadly, racist behavior and racial prejudice is alive and well throughout America, including within The Church. We cannot simply ignore it; pretend it does not exist and hope it goes away.
Mon, 14 Nov 2016 08:22:37 -0600Jesus' blood flowed for me. His body was broken so that I no longer have to be punished for my sin. If I confess my sin, God will forgive me. Communion says so.
Mon, 14 Nov 2016 08:21:31 -0600Young people today are looking for their purpose in life. The World offers external stimuli that caters to the feelings and emotions of the younger generation. The problem with the secular approach is the ever changing satisfaction level of the recipient.
Mon, 14 Nov 2016 08:17:44 -0600Jerusalem represents all of our hometowns. Have you ever wept or shown concern for your own hometowns? We could weep for our neighbours who don's know how to have the peace of Christ. They don't know the cure for the loneliness that results in destructive patterns. If we knew the heartbreak in our hometowns, we would weep too. Every city and town can be blessed with Jesus' presence, but the leaders must invite Jesus into the city or town before God's peace can be experienced.
Mon, 14 Nov 2016 07:20:25 -0600The cross is the most widely recognised symbol of Christianity, but it is also a symbol, once tolerated, or even respected, that is openly despised and scorned by a Christ-rejecting world. But there's nothing new about that. What is new is the sheer scale of the loss and abandonment of the central truths of the cross by people who claim to be Christians. Let me explain what I mean.
Fri, 11 Nov 2016 15:04:46 -0600The new rules set out by the Vatican restrict the choices Catholics have concerning the disposition of ashes of loved ones and others. This seems to be a flagrant overreach into a personal matter. It is justified by Church authorities in the weakest possible ways, namely, ancient superstitions and jejune core beliefs. A REAL wellness perspective and action course is recommended.
Fri, 11 Nov 2016 06:59:45 -0600The Albigensian Crusade and subsequent Inquisition has been called the world's first "ideological genocide." It is estimated that as many as half a million Cathars lost their lives and all of their teachings were destroyed in a futile hope of eradicating the Gnostic heresy for once and for all.
Thu, 10 Nov 2016 13:14:16 -0600The Holy Spirit lives in each of us. He gives each of us gifts that we have to use. The idea is that others, not us, should benefit from these gifts. Our fingers are on the switch. The question is whether we are prepared to switch on the power so that others can experience the wonder of the work of the Holy Spirit through you.
Thu, 10 Nov 2016 13:14:13 -0600Know that if you say Jesus is Lord, it is actually the Spirit of God speaking through you. You can relax about that. God's Spirit lives in you.
Thu, 10 Nov 2016 09:56:48 -0600May God's Spirit quietly show us what He doesn't like and what it is that steals our time with Him. And may He help us to change it so that we can spend enough time with God again!
Thu, 10 Nov 2016 08:23:13 -0600Hinduism is the oldest and possibly the first religion practiced on Earth, the followers are innumerable. To call Hinduism a religion is not justified, as it is more than that, it is a way of life. It is Sahdeva Kutumbekam: "Hinduism" is a blanket term covering several religions and does not refer to a single religion.
Tue, 08 Nov 2016 11:55:10 -0600Sometimes we'll have to take the consequences. But still we can hold on to the knowledge that God will never let us go. We must believe that He will open doors for us again.
Mon, 07 Nov 2016 09:44:45 -0600What kind of seeds are Christians planting? The seed we plant must always be able to produce a result that will bring honor to God. When the Church plants the seed of God's unaltered Word, it will experience phenomenal growth, both numerically and spiritually.
Mon, 07 Nov 2016 09:20:35 -0600Watch out. Be serious about this warning and look for those things that steal your time with God. Make sure that you're going in the right direction. Be on the lookout for temptations.
Mon, 07 Nov 2016 08:48:36 -0600Every house has a firm foundation. Without it, the house would quickly fall down. Similarly, our faith has a firm foundation-Jesus Christ. That foundation can never be shaken.
Fri, 04 Nov 2016 13:33:55 -0500Predestination to my own understanding means our lives from birth to dead has been fixed, preordained or determined by an unseen God, without inputs whatsoever from us. Therefore, all our efforts in thought, words or deeds cannot change the roadmap God created even while we were in our mother's womb. Honestly, I do not think this is right.
Fri, 04 Nov 2016 07:38:49 -0500It's not always easy to remain on course here where we're running the race in the world. Therefore it's important to train hard, and, yes, to sometimes keep away from the things not beneficial to our purpose and to do our utmost to finish the race successfully. Let us do everything possible every day to do God's will so that at the end of the day we can receive the winner's prize in God's arms..
Wed, 02 Nov 2016 08:03:13 -0500It sometimes seems to me that the Church has directed entirely too much time and energy towards figuring out which truths are acceptable for Christians to believe and attempting to eradicate those it deems to be heresy. However, I'm also aware that if we don't honor a common set of beliefs and traditions, the Christian faith will ultimately dilute and dissipate. So I've tried hard to understand why the Church came down so strongly against the idea of reincarnation.
Wed, 02 Nov 2016 07:57:19 -0500Go for gold! Let's become charged up to train and live the life out there at full speed. Let's run flat-out in Christ's race and let's stretch forwards to be the first to break the winner's ribbon.
Mon, 31 Oct 2016 10:56:19 -0500Even to listen to Steve Hofmeyr was evil. Well, yes. Like many of us Steve wasn't an angel, but I'm sure that to listen to Steve won't take away your place in heaven!
Mon, 31 Oct 2016 08:38:47 -0500There are many roads that have veered away from the foundational truths of God's Word. A plethora of doctrines and beliefs have led to a widening of separation between Believers. What can the Church do to regain its faltering position in the Gospel promotion.
Mon, 31 Oct 2016 08:31:36 -0500Have you ever wished that someone had given you encouragement when you really needed it? A few words of encouragement can really make our day brighter. We see an example of this in the reading from 2 Thessalonians 1:1-4,11-12.
