Episode 392: Exclusively Inclusive

Mon, 13 May 2013 03:00:00 +0000

For many, the joys and pains of collecting can be summed up in one word--exclusive. A hard-to-obtain, limited piece can be the prize of a collection both as a rarity and as a memory of a trip. But as the 2013 convention season commences new exclusives are being announced every week. Last week came news of Hasbro's San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Han in Carbonite and Boba Fett Black Series 6-inch figures. Now on this week's Star Wars Action News podcast Marjorie and Arnie look at exclusives announced for Star Wars Celebration Europe 2. From T-Shirts to posters to pins, the first round of exclusive merchandise offers some collectibles with a vintage style and others with a more modern and German flare. Join their discussion and start your shopping list now! Also on this week's show, a run-down on the Toys R Us exclusive Endor AT-AT, a report from the C2E2 Vintage Toy Auction, a review of Super 7's exclusive Leia Story print, and more! Hasbro claims they're some of the best sculpts they've ever done. Listen to find out the final verdict! But with the new items shipping there seem to be new problems for collectors. The figures seem to have problem staying on the cards, and reports are widespread regarding shipping damage to the Amazon exclusive Slave I. Even those who received perfect Slave I vehicles may still have issues as many report manufacturing issues and missing parts with Boba Fett's iconic ship. Marjorie and Arnie run down these disappointing details. With listener voicemails giving their thoughts on the toys, a review of the Star Wars chess set, and a Legend-ary Darth Maul collectible, it's all on this week's Star Wars Action News podcast! We want your feedback! Please take a few minutes and take the Star Wars Action News listener poll and tell us what you'd like to hear on the show!

Episode 406: Size DOES Matter

Mon, 30 Sep 2013 00:01:01 +0000

In 2007 the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars brought an onslaught of toys, collectibles, and commemorative items. But of all the 30th Anniversary items only one provided new insight into the Star Wars saga -- J.W. Rinsler's The Making of Star Wars. With that book's success Rinzler followed up with The Making of The Empire Strikes Back for Episode V's 30th anniversary in 2010. Now, Rinzler completes his trilogy with The Making of Return of the Jedi, and he may have saved the best for last. On this week's Star Wars Action News podcast Brock gives a hands-on review of this impressive tome, which is in bookstores today! Also on this week's show, Marjorie and Arnie have the entire first wave of Hasbro's 6-inch Black Series figures in hand. With X-Wing Luke Skwalker, R2-D2, Darth Maul, and a Sandtrooper, how does this new line of figures hold up? Listen to hear their review. With some real (trick or) treats in Target's Halloween section and a report from Project Comic-Con in St. Louis, it's all in the new Star Wars Action News podcast! In 2007 the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars brought an onslaught of toys, collectibles, and commemorative items. Episode 419: Locked Down with Joe Schreiber

Mon, 10 Mar 2014 08:01:50 +0000

Few first time Star Wars novelists get the promotional push that Joe Schreiber received in 2009 for Deathtroopers. The first unabashed horror story set in the Star Wars universe the combination of zombies and the galaxy far, far away inspired cosplay even before the book hit shelves. While somewhat controversial for its more R rated gore and violence, the book became a fan favorite and just one year later the sequel Red Harvest was released. Now after a four year absence from Star Wars fiction Schreiber is back in bookstores with the new novel Darth Maul: Lockdown. This prequel era tale follows the Sith apprentice on a mission for his master before the events of The Phantom Menace. Lockdown is a departure from the author's previous horror stories but the hard action and flare for visuals remain--as does the promotion. From the graphics flaunting Darth Maul fighting a Yuuzhan Vong to the news that this new story ties in closely with James Luceno's 2012 book Darth Plagueis fan expectations couldn't be higher. In this bonus episode of Star Wars Action News Arnie talks with the author about what he's been working on since 2010, what stories influenced this prison story, and what continuity landmines he had to avoid when setting a story in this era. Listen to get all the behind-the-scenes details of this new book. With Johnathan back hitting the bricks for a special LEGO focused "On the Pegs" segment, this is one podcast you won't want to miss!Few first time Star Wars novelists get the promotional push that Joe Schreiber received in 2009 for Deathtroopers. Mon, 16 Jun 2014 06:59:50 +0000

Star Wars collectors have braved the Hasbro booth year after year to get the latest, hottest exclusive toys. The line has been previewed and the first opportunity to get an exclusive Darth Vader car is at SDCC this summer! On this week's Star Wars Action News podcast Marjorie and Arnie discuss the released photos and share why collectors shouldn't need to race as hard to the Mattel booth on Preview Night! Episode 431: Exclusive Showdown

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 05:59:50 +0000

The irony of San Diego Comic-Con is that while everyone rushes to buy the exclusives, there's no time at the con to really look at them!  Now Marjorie and Arnie are back home and have unpacked their SDCC shipment, and are ready to tell you if Hasbro's 6-Inch Jabba the Hut exclusive, or the SDCC/Toys R Us exclusive Cantina Showdown set, was worth the trouble.

Also on this week's show Steve the Gingerprince reports in from the London Film and Comic Con.  With a not-too-surprising number of Star Wars guests (given where Episode VII is filming) and tons of toys, listen in to find out about that European event.

With Johnathan telling us what's hitting stores, a look at the Star Wars Celebration pin set, and more, it's all in this episode of Star Wars Action News!

Episode 436: Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys

Mon, 10 Nov 2014 13:40:50 +0000

George Lucas' 1977 space fantasy Star Wars changed the way American audiences consumed films. Now the documentary Plastic Galaxy looks back at the first generation of Star Wars toys, released between 1977 and 1985 from Kenner. Does this film capture the childhood magic of Star Wars figures, and can the documentary appeal to anyone not already obsessed with little plastic Stormtroopers? Find out in this special Now Playing/Star Wars Action News crossover podcast hosted by Marjorie, Arnie, and Jerry!George Lucas' 1977 space fantasy Star Wars changed the way American audiences consumed films. Now Playing Podcast's Review of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 07:00:00 +0000

Due to the illness of the hosts of Star Wars Action News, there will be no new podcast this week. Instead we invite you to join Arnie and Now Playing Podcast as they begin their Star Wars Retrospective Series. Star Wars. It twice became the biggest movie of all time. It has launched a billion dollar empire of movies, toys, and merchandise. It has even started a religion. But now, under the ownership of Disney, the Star Wars universe is set to expand infinitely with a new movie each year -- starting with Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Now Arnie, Jakob, and Stuart go back to where it all started -- the 1977 original George Lucas film Star Wars (a.k.a. Episode IV: A New Hope). Is the Force still with Star Wars almost 40 years after its release? And which version is better, the Special Edition or the original? Listen to Now Playing to find out, then join us weekly for more Star Wars reviews culminating with The Force Awakens! Episode 478: House of Cards

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 11:21:50 +0000

Highly detailed, highly articulated Star Wars 3.75-inch figures are the mainstay of many fans' collections. The news that The Force Awakens would only see a handful of these Black Series figures, and that they would be Walmart exclusives, made fans worry if these new toys would be obtainable. The third wave, with versions of Han Solo, General Leia, and Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens, has been elusive and fetched north of $40 per figure on eBay. But now, finally, the dam has broken and these figures are showing up coast to coast--including in the Star Wars Action News studio! On this week's show hear a review of these latest figures and see if they're worth more toy runs! Yet while the Black Series 3.75-inch figures have been elusive, the main line of figures, with five points of articulation, are available at every store. Fans were divided on these detailed, but hard-to-pose figures. Now, enter Kozy--a figure customizer who has created cardbacks that elevate these figures from average to epic! He joins the Star Wars Action News hosts to talk about these cards and his inspiration for making them. With a look at upcoming exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con International and Celebration Europe, new online sales, and much more, it's all in this Wampa-sized episode of Star Wars Action News! And also check out Star Wars Action News' crowdfunding campaign on Podbean! We want to make the show better and bring back the full video podcasts, but we need your help to make it happen!Highly detailed, highly articulated Star Wars 3.75-inch figures are the mainstay of many fans' collections.
