Hidden Windows 10 Tricks - Here's Proof You Don't Know It All

My favorite here is one that I never knew. At the extreme lower right of the Taskbar, there is a tiny horizontal line that reduces all Windows when you hover over it, and gives you a clean desktop when you click it. Don't want your coworker to see what you are doing? Just move the cursor to the lower right and click. Want to rotate your screen? Hold down the CtrlAltD keys with your left hand, and click the down arrow with your right hand in whatever orientation you want the screen. Let's say you are using a screen laying on the table and talking to a friend or colleague sitting at the table with you. No need to sit side by side. Just flip the screen with the down arrow, and it will face your friend. There are plenty more where these came from. Read the article and learn, grasshopper.            [...]

This sounds like science fiction, until we begin analyzing the rise of AI, the implantation of computing devices in the human body, computers that regulate heart and brain activity, and augmented human ability. Should we fear the coming of the computer enhanced human? Will this power be relegated to the few, or will it be available to the many? Given my advanced age, I am both happy and disappointed that I will likely not live to see the result of this prediction. However, I am hoping that the development of human/computer intelligence merging will help many of us humans live longer and better lives. Otherwise, what's a future for?          Related StoriesThe Red Pill Or The Blue Pill Is Not A Political ChoiceKalashnikov And Its Killer Robot - Be Afraid...Be Very AfraidLARA - An AI Legal Assistant That Will Help Clients Find The Right Lawyer  [...]

This article in Psychology Today discusses ageism in our society, the "ism" that nobody talks about. When you reach a certain age, you are somehow deemed too old in many environments; including Big Law and other large organizations. Mandatory retirement ages are often just a way of clearing the decks of those of us who have been lucky enough to dodge death. The Stoics tell us "Memento Mori", or remember that we all die. Then, when we wake up to another day, we are more prone to use it wisely. Solo law practice means that I get to go to work every day, and nobody but my clients can tell me to quit. I am writing about this today, as I reach another milestone, my 70th birthday. However, I prefer to think about my mental age, which is between 10 and 30, depending on whom you ask. You really are only as old as you think you are. I have always challenged the "age paradigm", as this article frames the question. The article also says this: "Something is seriously amiss in our culture. Materialism, consumerism, and the quest for youth, combined with fear of aging and denial of death make for a culture that is strangely arrested in an adolescent dream. When the later chapters of life are feared, elders demeaned, and rejection of death come together, is it any wonder there can be widespread depression among elders? " So, for all those who want to risk it, remember the plaque hanging on my office wall: "OLD AGE AND TREACHERY SHALL DEFEAT YOUTH AND SKILL".          Related Stories#WhyIAmASolo - I Get To Choose To Live My Passion - Not To Have Somebody Tell Me What It Needs To Be#WhyIAmASolo - I Appreciate Myself, Thank You Very Much#WhyIAmASolo - Nobody At The Firm Can Tell Me What Password I Can Use  [...]

I really enjoy our little private chats in the Messenger app or window. I prefer communicating via chat box to face to face, since I can shut you up with a click, and you will never know whether my Internet connection really did go down. I don't like confrontation, and I don't want to hurt your feelings. In fact, some of our conversations get pretty personal, and I REALLY hate having to see them every time I open Messenger. I really don't want to remember your last insult, or piece of unsolicited advice, or whatever it was you said yesterday that really ticked me off. So, I laboriously go through all the messages every now and then, click to select, click to get to the menu, and click to delete, and confirm that I really, really want to do it. Well, now we can remain friends, because with Facebook Delete All Messages, I can click one button, and all memory of you goes away. Thank you God, for making a world in which I can bulk delete Facebook Messenger messages.           Related StoriesDon't Like Long Winded Twitter Feeds? This is a great piece about why more systems, more seminars about marketing, more money, and more time won't make for a happier life for a solo, or any lawyer for that matter. Do you want to be happy? First, choose to be happy. You get to choose how you react to the world. Want to pursue your passion? Just do it. For me, practicing law in a way that I choose, making just enough money to be comfortable, having a mission of making those I love free to choose to be happy; these are the benefits of solo practice. I don't have to go to meetings about marketing, or whatever, at the whim of somebody else. Believe me, you don't need to make gobs of money to be happy. One of my favorite movies did a great job of proving this: Eat Pray Love. There really isn't a more complicated answer to happiness. Apply it to your life and go be happy. I received an email from Pieter Gunst, of Legal.io, who announced LARA, an AI legal assistant that can answer thousands of legal questions, direct consumer users to a lawyer who practices in the area, and is the beginning of a software system that hopes to be the place consumers will go to get competent answers and to solve legal problems. The interesting part of this system is the emphasis on finding local answers and help by creating a huge database and leveraging AI to access the data efficiently. Some of the skills that LARA has now: Get a non-disclosure agreement, Find a lawyer referral service,  Find a legal aid organization, Find a lawyer. Part lawyer referral service, part consumer information site, part document creation service, this could have a big impact as more consumers use the Internet for more than finding products and services. There are many issues, however, that will need to be addressed. Legal jurisdiction, licensing, state specific rules and regulations, and much more. However, it is clear that legal services delivery will be impacted as AI becomes more capable, and as humans rely more on computers and the Internet for more complicated tasks. The toughest task will be to keep human interaction a part of the equation. We must keep our humanity, and make certain that the machines remain our assistants, and not our masters.          Related StoriesNDA Lynn | Artificial Intelligence And Contract Review#WhyIAmASolo - I Don't Have To Have A Meeting To Discuss The Reporting Of Ethics Violations#WhyIAmASolo - I Appreciate Myself, Thank You Very Much  [...]
