Well said, Anil - I really like some of the songs you picked. Yes, I too had to prune many of my favorites to arrive at the Top 10 list. I am thankful that I grew up listening to such high quality movie songs from Raveendran maashu or Johnson or Ousepachan or Sharath or Bombay Ravi, not to mention the awesome, awesome 60s-70s songs from the older generation of music directors.

Ottakkambi nadam - (Thenum vayambum) . For me Pramadavanam is a better composition than Hari muraleeravam (well over-composed). Kalabham tharaam...(Vadakkum nathan) , Enthinu Veroru Sooryodayam...(Mazhayethum munpea), Deena dayalo raama (Vrindavana saranga), Aadi thodiyiletho( Aramthampuran ) , Kudajadriyil, Uthrada poonilave vaa. Omana thingal kidavo (Ithiri poove chuvanna poove), En Hrudaya poothalam - not a big ones but my favorites for unknown reasons. Hello .. can we make it top 20 .. it is not fair to limit this to 10. When you start listening to his songs one gets confused. I will hear songs in this order and to feel the rise and peak of Ravindran mash. (Well who am I to comment on Ravindran mash!!) Manatharil ennum - Ottakkambi - Ezhu swarangalum - .Endinu veroru..-Pramadavanam - Hari muraleeravam - Srila vasantham - Gange

Thanks for stopping by and clarifying about the name of the raaga, Sankara Narayanan. May be since I am not well versed with the raagas, I confused between Hamsadhwani and Hindolam, especially since he talked about both in that program. Plus I was writing in 2006 from what I remembered of an interview that was aired at least 2-3 years earlier. I have updated the post attributing to your comment. Thanks.

A debate on a worthy cause is welcome I think. Ravindran mash referred about hamsadhwani raga in that particular interview and he quoted some other music director having said that songs composed in hamsadhwani cannot become popular. And then Ravindran mash composed 'raagangale' in tharattu and 'manatharilennum' in Kaliyil Alpam Karyam in the same raga which proved to be hits.
