Totally with you on Andrews. I think i may have come accross him in other flicks, but the guy just doesn't do anything for me. Webb was about the only truely bright spot for me, wasn't even really too sold on Price, but whenever i see the guy all i can think is "Woe to you o' earth and sea!", so i think that's more my own perception of poor Vince than anything he's doing wrong (I listen to way too much Iron Maiden!). Gene Tierney didn't do a whole lot for me either - blasphemy perhaps?

You're in for quite the treat with Double Indemnity. I just hope we boosters didn't oversell it the way the Laura boosters oversold that one ;)

Hey Steve,

To tell ya the truth I feel the same way. On top of that, I don't like Dana Andrews's character (I used to not like Andrews as an actor, but I've seen him in other things and he's quite good). In Laura he seems to be nothing more than a bully with a badge. On the plus side, I thought Clifton Webb was great as Waldo and Vincent Price gives one of his best non-horror preformances as Shelby (one reason I didn't like Andrews in this pic was the way he treats Shelby - I always thought he got a raw deal; sure Shelby's just a gigolo, but he's also a nice guy).

As for Double Indemnity, I'm also looking forward to seeing it, as I've yet to experience it. I know Stanwyck is good and MacMurray can turn in a good performance when he wants to, plus Edward G. is great in practically everything he does (it looks like he's playing a role similar to his role in The Stranger).

I meant to post a comment on the noir selections about a week or so ago, but better late than never right!?

I never really understood the unabashed love for Laura, i'll be honest. I thought it was passable, but hardly quintessential noir - i always felt it kind of "blew it's wad" halfway through the runtime. Just me.

Now Double Indemnity... THERE's a noir! I get all warm n fuzzy inside just thinking about that upcoming DVD. :)

Also about 35-40 pages through the novel ( i hate reading off of a monitor, and i ran out of ink whilst printing.) Thus far it's a hoot and a half, very Pratchett-ish. I love me my discworld :)
