Clearly very belatedly I have just seen this blog. Did you complete the walk Graham? If so then we would welcome a report on the Pennine Journey website.

Many thanks Graham, that Oookstar inner looks the business, with plenty of space. I am going to need some form of inner on the TGO Challenge next year otherwise I could get eaten alive.

I'm just slowly sealing my Trailstar at the moment (one seem at a time) and hopefully will get out in it before the end of the year.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Bryan,
The Trailstar is a great shelter I have yet to buy an inner but I hope to buy a Oookstar inner from Oookworks in Cumbria in the New Year.
http://oookworks.com/OookStar.html
There is also the option of importing a Pentanet from USA
http://www.bearpawwd.com/shelters_floors/pentaNet2.html
Some people use a MLD Bug Bivy
http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=55
but I would prefer more room than that.

Hi Graham. I found myself reading this post while looking for posts on the Trailstar. It is a shame your trip did not turn out as planned.

I have a Trailstar and I was wondering if you had managed to source some form of protection from those biting little blighters?

Just bought one from Gooutdoors for 153 pound. RRP was 200 but with there discount card they will beat a cheaper offer by 10% and I saw one on a website for 169. They checked the website and gave the discount without any problems. As for the jacket it feels a very good quality product.

Some greta pics there Graham, love the sun's orb rising through the trees on Chantonbury. Also nice pic of me setting up with my arse hanging out, cheer for that ;-)
Seriously though, it was a great weekend, with great weather and great company.

Cheers!

Hi Ben,
I think that the Terra Nova Laser Competition is probably the best tent for backpacking in the UK.You could fit a larger buckle at the bottom of the door.
The Trailstar needs a large area to pitch and until http://oookworks.com/ bring out a nest for it you have to avoid places where midges live.
I think that the Trailstar is ideal for windy mountainous country for up to three people.Have you seen Steven Horner's review? http://www.stevenhorner.com/?p=1003

Thanks Trevor,we are proud of the distance that you cycled! It sounds like you have lots of good memories from your trip. It would be good to catch-up at some point. Are you planning anything with the Backpackers this Autumn?

Are you happier with the Trailstar now? I am planning to take my Laser comp to the Brecons soon, maybe next year I will get a trailstar when I am sick of trying to get the tiny buckle at the bottom of the door to close.

Nice pictures, sorry about the uncalled for rant.

You would have been proud of me when I was in Spain....No tent...No tarp....just the moon and stars.

Thanks Chris,I think it was the inclusion of the locking pots support and the stabilizing feet that swang it for me this time. I have been looking at the Jetboil for a few years now. I like the idea of the gas regulator in the Sol Ti which would be good for very cold temps (below 0c) but the price has put me off.
Have you seen Hendrik's excellent review of the Jetboil Sol Ti on his blog Hiking in Finland?

Good review, Graham. It's good to see how Jetboil has really taken off and is being embraced by many. I bought one a few years ago and thought it wonderful except for stability issues - it was slightly annoying having to buy the feet separately. I may be wrong but I like that Jetboil's new accessories seem to be backwards-compatible, looking forward to getting the titanium pot for my now elderly Flash. Have you tried the Sol Ti yet?
