Ontario businesses sold almost $2 billion worth of the environmental and clean technology goods manufactured in Canada in 2015, the most of any province. Quebec was second, at almost three-quarters of a billion dollars in sales. Together, the two provinces accounted for more than three-quarters of all domestically manufactured environmental and clean technology goods sold in 2015.



Households and the Environment Survey: Energy use, 2015

Canadian households consumed 1.3 million terajoules of energy in their homes in 2015, down 3.6% from 2013. On average, the amount of energy consumed per household edged down from 97.5 gigajoules in 2013 to 92.5 gigajoules in 2015.

Canada produced 21.5 million cubic metres (135.3 million barrels) of crude oil and equivalent products in August. This was the highest level of production of crude oil and equivalent products on record, surpassing the previous high of 21.2 million cubic metres (133.4 million barrels) reported in January 2017.

Real natural resource gross domestic product increased 2.5% in the second quarter of 2017, on the strength of the energy subsector (+3.7%), after edging up 0.5% in the first quarter. Natural resource related prices decreased after four consecutive increases.

Total energy use by industries and households in Canada decreased 0.7% in 2015, following a 1.1% increase the previous year. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which had been increasing annually before levelling off in 2014, decreased 0.5% in 2015.
