Don't worry. We moved into our "new" house a year ago and I sorted out a load of crap then. One year on, the boys' rooms are full of....crap. It never goes, you see.

My boys have been on holiday for a month already. The worrying thing this time is, it seems to have sped by.....

I thought I got rid of everything extraneous when we packed up to leave Korea in January, but here it is July and I am still unpacking boxes and wondering what the hell I was thinking. Unfortunately, I have no one to blame in this case but myself. Enjoy your last weeks in Moscow and try not to let the House Elves bring you down. ; )

I'm going to comment on your previous moving post as well as this one - I remember the very conversation when you said you were Moscow bound - incredible really...I wish you all the very best of luck with it all - I bob and weave on the blog front ( no kidding ) but have realised thanks to you who got me into it in the first place - it's actually bloody good fun !

Love to all x

Have to admit that I personally won't be sorry to say goodbye to some of the Lego shrapnel. Although, as you can see in the subsequent post, their fascination with that continues - so maybe we'll be saying goodbye to less of it than I might like...

Does his "Ask Me Anything" book deal with trans-continental moves, perchance? Could be a useful resource.

yup, it's certainly a hurricane. Good luck with it all. And when you get back to blighty I think there will have to be nattering over wine taking place.

Well, speaking as someone who's just come out of the eye of the hurricane (international move #2) I certainly don't envy you, but it does sound like you've got everything taken care of - in a far more orderly manner than I did. Enjoy your remaining time in Moscow. I'll look forward to hearing about your impressions upon your return!!!

It's funny what seems like nothing-blogging to you is very interesting. Moving countries, all that entails. Good luck with it!

Ah, not surprised you are leaving sorting out the toys till last. Always hard to say goodbye to those...

Hurrying up and waiting is so hard, isn't it? You capture it very well. I like Muddling Along's image of being in a holding pattern.

Keep on putting one foot infront of the other - an international move is such a big thing physically and emotionally and you've done so much and are stuck in this holding pattern now
Looking forward to having you back Blighty-side

It sounds to me like you've done all of the hard work. I remember that feeling too - like you should be packing or something, but actually there isn't anything left to do until the packers come. I got to the stage where I couldn't face any more sorting out of toys, and just piled them into boxes and shipped them back.

I think blogging's great for getting you through times like this. I certainly found it really helped me through my move to the States and back. There is less time for it when life is busy and on an even keel.

Good luck with the move and everything --exciting as well as stressful, from what I recall from 2 years ago this week....

How can it be 6 years since you left? Seems much less
I hope the transition isn't too hard and you have a smooth return to Blighty - keep the tissues ready (and assume you already have the expat trick of cards with your UK address and all your contact numbers on plus a photo to hand out to everyone?)

It seems like yesterday you were moving there...
Best of luck with the move and hope all the goodbyes aren't too painful. You'll be amazed how quickly the boys will adapt (you, it might take longer...)

2015-06-11T15:11:21.097+01:00

I am a pretty tough cookie, having grown up moving all over and also having done it repeatedly as an adult - why this post has me in floods today, I can't be sure. Maybe because I put my mum on a plane back to the US this morning after a lovely 2-week visit; maybe because, right now in Seoul, #2s class of 2015 is graduating and he is not there to take part in it (he finished early, just before we moved to England in January); maybe because a group of my own students and colleagues at the German school are also wrapping up the year with our own special, traditional goodbyes. Or maybe it's because I just did this a few months ago myself and things are still a bit tender. You did describe it perfectly with this post. Ouch.
