We have a grand total of two daffs and one carved wooden owl here!

Beautiful structure. We sure invested a few bucks on religion over the years didn’t we? I have always been stunned and dismayed on visits to South America (it’s true elsewhere too) over the years where you see opulent churches and cathedrals, filled with riches, with fat ass well-fed priests while poor people live in squalor in the barrios. It is, to put it mildly, disgusting.

Sometimes photographers can be the most inconsiderate people.

Good to be out and walking... Robins evident in pairs or fighting... as were the Mallards. And generally, great to have more birdsong now including the return of the dawn chorus!

Seems like a very pleasant excursion with lots to keep you interested. I guess the robins are in full courtship mode now. Oh what hormones will do!

Looks like a very picturesque area to visit. I am surprised there are not more ducks on the water.

Great series of images. Sometimes bad weather for humans means good birds. Most fights between birds are ritualized and after a bit of a scuffle end quickly, but sometimes they will fight to the death.

Hi David.. thanks for visiting and for your comment. I had already amended my blog to read Shelduck.. but thanks for your observation!

I was about to point out that what you refer to as Northern Shovelers are in fact Common Shelducks, but I see that someone already beat me to it. Nice series of images, however.

All birds today looked a little puzzled.. and yes thanks.. I'd realised I'd had a senior moment and corrected it; but grateful you spotted it.. hate getting things wrong!!

Great shots - but your shovellers are shelduck! They look puzzled by the absence of wateriness

We've had flurrying snow here today, but nothing like the hysterical reports of weather chaos in the news would have you believe. This country can be pathetic in winter

Hi Tricia

I think that the strange bird could be a Muscovy Duck. Not native. We had several "released" on to a local pond in the New Forest a couple of years ago. They were depleted in numbers over time as we believe that the local foxes had them. Sadly none left now.

Cheers

Maurice

After a freezing start to the day, the vaunted warm front has passed over and I don't even need a coat outside now. I love robins when they sing.

Simon, it's not a permanent butterfly house. Each January RHS Wisley has flutters in the Glasshouse... and the types seem to vary a bit each year. Good to see though...
