Some days ago, Liz Gutiérrez invited her friends to create playlists with the songs they consider the most beautiful. Not pretty, or nice. She said beautiful. It was really hard to decide. I called my selection Work is Overrated.

Richard Thompson - 1000 Years of Popular Music

2010-11-28T11:58:16.786-08:00

(object) (embed)

Who: Richard Thompson (Fairport Convention, Richard & Linda Thompson)
What: Popular music, from medieval England to, well, Britney Spears
Where: New York
When: 2002

"The idea for this project came from Playboy magazine—I was asked to submit a list, in late 1999, of the ten greatest songs of the Millennium. Hah! I thought, hypocrites—they don't mean millennium, they mean twenty years—I'll call their bluff and do a real thousand-year selection. My list was similar to the choices here on this CD, starting in about 1068, and winding slowly up to 2001. That they failed to print my list among others submitted by rock's luminaries, is but a slight wound—it gave me the idea for this show… The idea is that Popular Music comes in many forms, through many ages, and as older forms get superseded, sometimes the baby is thrown out with the bathwater—great ideas, tunes, rhythms, styles, get left in the dust of history, so let's have a look at what's back there, and see if still does the trick". Richard Thompson.

A listening guide to The Legendary Pink Dots is always helpful, specially for newcomers. I wish a had one when I started listening to them. After all, these guys have over 40 albums, released between 1980 and 2010.

These are the best tracks of LPD in my opinion: Be Patient, It's a Sad Song.

Who: José Navarro, Guillermo González, Sósimo Hernández, Guillermo Portillo Hoffman.
What: Rock In Opposition, jazz fusion, mexican folk.
Where: Mexico
When: 1989

Rock MX

Casino Shanghai - Film LP

Who: Walter Schmidt, Carlos Robledo, Ulalume, Humberto Alvarez.
What: Synthpop, New Wave
Where: México
When :1985

Syntoma - No me puedo controlar

2010-04-28T17:43:07.519-07:00

(image)
(image)
Who: Alex Eisering (aka Alex Ice and Drinks), Synthia Napalm y Bernardo Dix-Fraz.
What: Synthpop, New Wave
Where: México
When: 1983
