Autumn Refuge

Hi everyone,

I finished a new painting of a Triceratops. Its a peaceful piece, he is just pausing in the glow of autumn sunlight.

I feel I'm improving in my paleoart and I hope to continue to grow as an artist and become better at my work.

Hopefully, you will enjoy this painting as much as I did painting it. Thank you all for your compliments and support and friendships I've recieved from the paleo community.

I will have more paintings shortly and of some different types of animals. I'm working out compositions for sauropods among other creatures so be on the lookout!

As always, prints are available if you would like one. Thank you to those that purchase prints of my work, it is a great compliment and I hope you enjoy them!

Best as always-

Solitude - Styracosaurus

In this painting I tried to capture a single moment of a lone Styracosaurus pausing in the sunlight, perhaps soaking in its warmth. He could be an old animal, wandering alone or maybe an outcast. Or perhaps his herd is grazing in the forest behind him.

I'm trying to work on developing my paleoart and my style. I really want the pictures to capture a moment, no matter how boring or simple, in the lives of these magnificent creatures.

I feel I'm getting more comfortable with my crazy combo of abstraction and realism and hope it adds a fresh look to paleoart in general.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and thank you so much again for stopping by to look at my work.
Happy Holidays to you and yours :) - Angie

Prints are available here

Fly Away - Iguanodons

Boy, I've neglected this blog to long. But I'm back to share a new painting with everyone who might be interested.

I've painted a scene of a couple of Iguanodon watching the bird Iberomesornis take flight from their forest home. I've aimed for a tranquil scene, something very ordinary yet beautiful in its own way.

I very much enjoyed painting this one. I feel I'm getting more comfortable with my style...very loose and abstract, but realistic in a way.

I'm busy working on a lone Styracosaurus, although that can always change. And I'm sketching more ideas for future work.

As always if you would like a print or canvas print of the painting I put them up on my Fine Art America site. Thank you to those of you who have purchased them and I truly hope you enjoy the pictures.

Here is the link to the painting:

More dinosaurs from Dino Rev

I get a lot of requests for more dinosaur pictures so here are some more for you:) I'll get some more when I can. Here we go:Velociraptors "Scarlet & Ibis"...I call them that as I designed their color scheme after this gorgeous scarlet bird. I thought they turned out beautiful. The 2 goofball Guanlongs. I didn't really have much to do with these guys, but here you go:I didn't have much to do with this episode either (except design the colors for the babies, the sharks and model the ammonites):More Eoraptors as I love their colors. I texture painted and designed their colors. I had help painting the baby as time was getting short:Probelesodon I texture painted and designed the color scheme for:Rahonavis I painted the body and feathers. He has a great personality:Rapetosaurus I designed the color scheme for:I'll add more soon:) Thanks![...]

More high res pictures of Dinosaurs:)

Some more pics for you guys.Jack the villian Rex: allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />Baby Majungas. I was really happy with how this story turned out. One of my favorites:)The Miragaia I modeled:No explanation needed;)More Cedarosaurus:Anyway, enjoy:)[...]

Texture Paint + Modeling Reel

allowFullScreen='true' webkitallowfullscreen='true' mozallowfullscreen='true' width='320' height='266' src='' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' FRAMEBORDER='0' />

Here's a quick video of only some of my dinosaurs I've painted and modeled. The quality isn't the best and I've got a bunch more, but I need to wait before I can show them. This was pulled from a recording so its got the DC bug on it until I can get access to a good video copy. Enjoy:)

Some high resoultion images of my dinos from Dinosaur Revolution

I got some stuff from work so I can show some better images of my texture painting I did for this show:) I also modeled some of the dinosaurs and even got to do some work on background plates, which was fun!I LOVE painting pattern and color so I always wanted to paint the dinosaurs that had the most of either! It's a lot of fun to try and make the animals look as natural and interesting as possible. Hopefully it worked!Anyway, Draconyx which I painted after an Appaloosa horse:The Majungasaurus babies I painted after African Wild Dogs (design for these guys is Ricardo Delgado's;)Shroomosaurus (Shunosaurus:) I made up the pattern for them and also modeled them and the Sinraptors I think I painted after Loons:Unamed orange thing;) I think they were calling it a juvenile Pachy. The model was originally a Prenocephale. It was around Halloween so I painted him like a pumpkin:) I also modeled the base mesh for this guy:Eoraptors. Male was somewhat painted after a pheasant. The T Rex I painted was the "villian" Rex nicknamed Jack (this death mask design is credit to Ricardo):Cedarosaurus I painted after Kudu antelope:I have more stuff I'll get up later and when I can piece some of the footage together I will put it up here. Thanks everyone:)[...]

More of my work from Dinosaur Revolution

Besides painting colors and textures on the animals (fav part! HA!) I also got to model some animals. A lot of animals were unfortunately cut, so I have a small sampling of some shots Discovery Channel has released to the public.

Miragaia was definately the hardest to model, but I think they are one of my favorites:) Also got to model the "Shroomosaurus", lol. Or "Shunosaurus" if you prefer. His tail club is way to big, but it was done for the "story". Anyway, got to paint all the Shunos as well, the "mother" being my favorite in terms of color pattern:)

Got to paint the baby Majungas after African Wild Dogs (design credit to Ricardo Delgado on those;) you can't see them to well in this picture:/

Got to paint the Dinheirosaurus too. One of my early efforts though. Think it was like the second animals I did.

Draconyx is by far one of my favorites. I got to paint them like Appaloosa horses. No pics of them have been released by the network and I don't know if I can show them or not so I'll have to wait on those until I can get them for my portfolio.

Anyway, there's more, but I'll just wait until I can get proper stuff from work:)

Oh and for some reason they did a big time channel switch in the USA. So the last part of this show airs tomorrow on the Science Channel. I have no idea why this happened though;) But its got good 'ol Jack the Rex and the others in it so I can't wait to see it! :)

Best to you all!

Some of my texture painting for Dinosaur Revolution

Now that these pictures have been posted online I can share them with you guys :)

A couple of the animals I painted for the show. I love color, pattern and design and was allowed to do my thing so this is the result of the Eoraptors (had some help with the baby from a co-worker who is amazing because we were trying to paint stuff in like 3-5 days, but adults are my guys;)

I also painted the "villian" T-Rex who we nicknamed "Jack" :)

If anymore get released I'll show you, I just can't show anything unless its officially released:(

Thanks guys!

New Shapeways Models

I've got 2 new models available on my SW site. Both are Male Lambeosaurus m. Many more models are on their way, its just time consuming and difficult to get them through the Shapeways process of making them printable. But here are 2 new models and I think they turned out very nice.

So if you'd like, go have a look at my SW page:

Stegosaur painting and new site to purchase prints

Hi everyone! I finally finished my stegosaur painting featuring the Chinese Tuojiangosaurus. I like the atmosphere of the piece and think it turned out nice. With my paleoart I try to develop an intersting style and really want the animals to be a part of their surroundings. I try for mood. Hopefully I was successful!

I have more in the works and I have decided to try a new print on demand website for my work. If you want some prints, large or small you can find them at my art gallery here:

I also have the link saved to the right on the blog scroll.

It so far has just my steg painting, but others are well on their way. So check back for updates!

Thanks everyone:)

Comic Con Poster for Dinosaur Revolution

Formerly "Reign of the Dinosaurs". I don't know why they changed the name, but here is the promotional poster for Comic Con featuring a stylized picture of our "Bad Boy" T Rex.

If anyone is going, let me know how you liked what they are showing. Which should be some final work for the show:)

Lambeosaurus Model

Hey there! :)

Here's a Lambeosaurus I just finished. I'm not the greatest at Lighting and Rendering. I'm pretty much just a modeler and texture painter, but hopefully it passes as nice.

I had fun with the color pattern as always. Its a mix of bird and mammal coloration. I love patterns that are grey and black stripes:)

Anyway, I need to render out the Olorotitan and need to get this Lambeo up on Shapeways. Both models should be released this week from SW.

Have a great week!

More half finished things...

These are the things I have going at the moment, along with the Steggie painting I'm almost done with. The Reign dinos have kept me busy the last couple weeks, so I put my stuff aside while I work on them. I thought I would just post the WIPs anyway, so I don't neglect the blog for to long.

I'm almost there with the color map for the Olorotitan. Alas, I missed the Hadrosaur Gallery for Art Evolved as I got so distracted, but maybe I can still put him in it when he is done:)

So, the two new paintings I haven't decided on the creatures yet, I'm just playing with shapes. The next PT I think needs Tenontos, so maybe the forest painting will get one of those. Now it just has some random Iguanodon type thing in there to play with shape and angle of the dinosaur. The other one I just sketched in something to see what the pose would look like. It turned into something feathery. Not sure what dino it should be yet.

Anyway, that's what I've been up too;)

Lots a Spots...Olorotitan update

It's a lotta spots to paint, but that's cool. Spotted dinosaurs are fun!

I'm another day into painting him and already thinking about a pattern for the Parasaurolophus and Lambeosaurus I plan on sculpting next.

I also want to do something that is not a dinosaur. I do love the Gorgonopsids. Maybe I will try one of those at some point.

Anyway, another update showing this Olorotitan's progress. More soon:)

Painting the Olorotitan model

I've gotten around to my favorite part of this process...texturing:) Right now I'm just blocking in color and pattern, later he will need other maps to make him realistic and tie it all together.

I prefer dinosaurs that are colored boldly. I love coming up with different designs for the animals and because nature is bold and colorful (and drab too) anything is plausible. That's the fun of it, this animal really existed, but I still get to make up things like color. Plus, I like them to be different than what everyone is used to seeing. Grey dinosaurs are so last year:)

I still have a long way to go, more later...

Detailing the Olorotitan and other WIPs

I've been at work detailing this model. This Olorotitan is an older, adult bull. He's been around the block a few times and is no pushover. So he has the bite marks and scars to proove it. I'm going to move on to making the other maps for him and add details as I go along, but this is where I am at.

Also still working on my Stegosaur painting. I still have a long way to go, but its heading in the right direction. I'm blocking in the steg, getting his pattern and colors the way I want them before I tie him in with the background. Right now he stands out way to much.

More updates soon...

Steg painting WIP

I decided I needed to jump back into some painting! I've been working on this forest scene, trying to stay loose and yet realistic at the same time. I tend to prefer Paleoart that is heavy on the art and less so on the scientific illustration. If that makes sense;)

In this piece I want to try and paint a peaceful forest setting, with pretty colors and nice texture. I'm still working on pulling it together, but am happy so far.

I've loosely sketched in a potential inhabitant of the prehistoric forest. Some type of Stegosaur was calling to me and felt right in this setting. For now he is a generic form of steggie. I'll probably either go with Tuojiangosaurus or maybe Miragaia.

Anyway, I have many more in my head that I want to get going on. Maybe I will block in more paintings tonight;) I'll post more as I finish.

Olorotitan detailing

Now that I have the base mesh done, I'm starting to add details like scutes, scratches and will also get some scales on there asap. Then I get to paint him! My favorite part:)
