What happens to the Costa Concordia?

Mon, 16 Jan 2012 08:17:36 -0800

The Costa Concordia; what happens next? How will the ship be removed? Rescue efforts were suspended indefinitely on Monday after the stricken cruise liner slipped on its rocky resting place and settled farther into the water, according to the firefighters heading the operation... Mr. Foschi also said the vessel was carrying 2,300 tons of fuel but there were no signs of leakage so far.

Advice for visiting Maker Faire NYC?

Visiting the Maker Faire NYC this weekend with a couple of really bright kids, 8 & 12. It looks like we can go one of the days. Any advice?

Why do carrots curl when cut lengthwise?

Sun, 15 May 2011 14:46:45 -0800

Why do carrots curl when cut lengthwise? Take a carrot (store bought in my case), peel the skin, cut off top and bottom. Cut in half lengthwise. Whoa! The two halves instantly curl inward. Take the two halves and cut in half lengthwise. Major curl! But why?

Aviation Shutdown?

If the fools in Washington end up causing a shutdown of the federal government, would all commercial flights be canceled?

Is there an car thief app for that?

Fri, 17 Dec 2010 07:00:54 -0800

Recently, a friend's beat up old car was stolen the old fashion way - with a screwdriver to the ignition. This made me wonder about auto theft and newer, computer chip laden cars like the 2011 Volvo that I rode in yesterday. Has the computerization of automobiles led to new ways to steal cars? Basically, is there an car thief app for that?

Should I buy a Volvo?

Mon, 25 Jan 2010 09:41:02 -0800

Last year I almost bought a new Volvo c30. I drove one and liked it, but then work got busy and I put the whole thing off until the spring. However, in December Ford announced that they would be selling Volvo to Geely. Geely has apparently has only been manufacturing cars since 1989. This makes me hesitant, even though the BBC report on the sale states: Industry observers say the sale is good news for Volvo. Am I over thinking this, or is the ownership of a car company irrelevant?

Filemaker upgrade problems

Tue, 01 Sep 2009 13:41:57 -0800

Trouble opening old Filemaker 7 file on Filemaker Pro 10. I currently purchased FileMaker Pro 10 for Mac. I currently have been using FileMaker 7.
I fully installed the new version but when I go ahead and open my fp7 file within in Version 10 it reads "inventory.fp7" is damaged and cannot be opened. Use the Recover command to recover this file"
So I try to recover this file within FP10 and its says its "Locked or in use". So I made sure that it was unlocked and not in use. But still i am unable to open my inventory in the newly purchase version.
Is there something I am missing? did I do something wrong with installing.

What are the chances of spinning a Yahtzee on the first roll?

Mon, 17 Aug 2009 18:00:10 -0800

What are the chances of spinning a Yahtzee on the first roll? This happened during a real game and we wanted to find out what the odds were of it happening. (A Yahtzee is 5 dice of the same number.)

Is Mint.com safe?

Wed, 27 May 2009 07:08:07 -0800

I like the idea of Mint.com, and have read all their statements regarding how secure it is, but more than once I have bailed at the point where they ask for your bank info. Am I being overly concerned about this?
