Hi everyone

Sorry for not posting for so long, it's mainly because I have had a lot of work and also a surgery resulting in six stitches on my face. But I'm fine now and ready to start blogging. If you want me to reupload something, please post your comment. Thanks!

Kuruki - Crocodile Tears 7''

Kuruki was almost a solo project, by Ghent-based musician Gerry D'Haeyer. The single "Crocodile tears", printed in 1981, was fun and interesting, a one hit wonder. Then followed three 12" ('Such a Liar', 'Action' and 'Souvenir / Souvenir'), this 7" single "Just a cat" in 1983, which was recorded with Alan Gevaert & Chris Whitley of Noh Rodeo, and a full-lenght in 1984, 'Tv Scape'. Gerry D'Haeyer later went on to play drums with bluesmusician Roland Van Campenhout.

SS-Say - Fusion (1985)

(image)

SS-Say made their live debut at the William Burroughs visit "Last Chance" in Copenhagen in the autumn of 1983, at the time featuring Lena Walsh on vocals. Being replaced by Inge Shannon in 1984, the group recorded the 'Fusion' 12" single later that year. The record was originally planned to be an album, but two unfinished recordings were left out during the process (one untitled track and the later MH recording "Deep Inside Me" featured on his 1986 double-album 'Cutting Through').

Inge Shannon had worked with MH in the cult project Pesteg Dred back in 1981 (the third member of this band being Per Hendrichsen of Under For). During this period the group recorded 'Years Of Struggle Against The Lies, The Stupidity And The Cowardice', an album that never got released as an LP, but became available as an MC many years later with Atlas Magazine no. 1 (1985).

Games - Dance This Way

Games - Dance This Way/Love Canal

(image)

One of my favourite records ever. A perfect marriage of the late 70's and early 80's sounds. The song "Love Canal" beats everything.

Games were a synthpop band from Wirral, Merseyside, formed in 1980 by Brendan Coyle (synthesizer), Colin Hughes and Steve Knott (vocals, guitar). The group were influenced by electronic bands of the time, like Roxy Music, Japan and Human League[1]

"Their first disc was a single, First Law of Games, released in 1980. During 1981, their later material appeared in two compilations, Street To Street - Volume Two, which featured the songs "Unrest In The Real World" and "The Song", both recorded that year; and The Bogus Compendium, released only in cassette, in March 1981[2].

In early 1982, Chris "Teepee" Shaw (synthesizer), formerly of Dalek I Love You, joined as fourth member, and, alongside him, the band recorded and released their last single Dance This Way, in February 1982, before disbanding the end of the year.

Knott reunited the band in 1983, but for one only gig at Pickwick's. That time, the band comprised also then Dead Or Alive guitarist Wayne Hussey (later The Mission singer) on guitar, Bran Jones on drums and David Hughes (formerly in Dalek I Love You and Godot) on synthesizer.

Chandra - Transportation

Go Go Records 1980

"Chandra Oppenheim is a young female vocalist (12 years old when this was recorded) and is backed by The Dance with production from Euginie Diserio on this 4 track EP released on Go Go records in 1980."

The Chandra EP has been reissued and the package includes 4 unreleased tracks recorded with the Chandra Dimension as well as a 32-page booklet. Purchase it here

"In honor of the memory of the New York City MTA Strike of '05. Chandra's 1980 EP Transportation (On/Gogo) featured 10-year old lead singer Chandra Oppenheim, daughter of sculptor/visual artist Dennis Oppenheim. In '79 via her dad she met the band Model Citizens, and upon their breakup they decided to back her up and call the group Chandra. They met with fairly good response: Warhol interviewed them for his mag, they got good paying gigs at all the NYC hotspots, and apparently appeared performing on Captain Kangaroo. Fred Maher, drummer of many Lou Reed sessions, was in this band as well."

The Laughing Academy - Suspicion

Some time ago my friend recommended me this band as he owned their album in the 80s and used to play it all the time. So I bought it and I wasn't disappointed. Laughing Academy sounds pretty nice, especially tracks like Suspicion, Belonging (great synth line) or Brief Encounter that sounds a like very soft version of All That I Wanted by Belfegore...

November Group - Work That Dream

2009-04-05T17:06:58.559+02:00

November Group - Work That Dream November Group is a new-wave rock/pop band from Boston founded in the early 1980s by Kearney Kirby and Ann Prim."November group was one of the most interesting of the synth-based, dance-oriented bands. Unlike most of their peers in the early '80s, November Group was austere and harsh, bereft of joy, more influenced by some of the early "dark dance" groups like A Certain Ratio or New Order. They maintained a militant sound, and the vocals (provided by two women, who headed the band) moved from harsh monotone to emotive cries." Blood and Roses - Enough Is Never Enough

2009-02-03T15:02:51.519+01:00

http://www.myspace.com/bloodandrosesukBlood And Roses - enough is never enough"Blood and Roses were one of the most caustic UK gothic deathrock bands ever to be overlooked. They had strong guitar hooks and vocals that drip with seductive morbidity. Extremely dynamic, they were one of the best goth punk bands. Their guitarist was extremely talented, and they often had keyboards added into the mix. The songs could be slow and brooding, or fast and aggressive. Blood and Roses covered songs from John Carpenter's soundtrack work, some of the most modernly creepy soundscapes to be included in horror/sci-fi movies in the eighties, that make for perfect deathrock instrumentals. Guitarist Bob Short and Dave Roberts (Sex Gang Children) grew up in the Kill Your Pet Puppy collective (an anarchist/anti-vivisection group) in the 70s. Lisa Kirby, the singer, also did the album artwork for most of the Blood & Roses records, including the illustration for "(Some) Like it Hot"."Tracks:A1 Enough Is Never Enough A2 (Some) Like It Hot A3 Your Sin Is Your Salvation A4 Whirr A5 Roles A6 Breakdown B1 Assault On Precinct 13 B2 The Tower Falls B3 Possession B4 Living For Today B5 Tomorrow B6 Spit Upon Your GraveBlood and Roses - Enough Is Never Enough[...]

And now something special for all darksynth-starved, something you've all been waiting for.
I remember when I first heard 'Die Russen Kommen' on The New Wave Complex Vol.06, I was like 'Wow...now that's really...SOMETHING! I've never heard anything like this before. It sounds so simple, but it's hard to 'figure out' at the same time...'
I hope you'll like just as much as I did.

Moev - Dusk And Desire

2008-09-29T08:11:15.438+02:00

Moev is a synth-pop band based in Vancouver, Canada. It was founded in 1981 by Tom Ferris (keyboards, percussion) and Cal Stephenson (keyboards, vocals). They were joined by Madeleine Morris (vocals) and Mark Jowett (guitar) later that year. Moev's debut album, "Zimmerkampf," appeared in 1982.After their first label (San Francisco based "Go! Records") went broke in early 1983, band member Mark Jowett and manager Terry McBride formed Nettwerk Records in early 1984 to release Moev material. Singer Madeleine Morris departed, leaving Cal Stephenson to fill in temporarily. Christine Jones was recruited to provide vocals for the 1984 singles "Toulyev" and "Alibis."In January 1985 Michella Arrichiello became the new vocalist in collaboration with Cal. After signing with Profile Records of New York in September 1985, "Dusk And Desire" was released. At this point, Mark Jowett left to concentrate on his managerial duties at Nettwerk, Cal Stephenson returned to school, and Michella Arrichiello left as well....Tracklisting:A1 Sea-Missile Motel (4:11) Written By - Robert Harvey A2 Took Out The Lace (3:19) Producer - Dave Ogilvie A3 Photos (4:54) A4 Kim Says (3:36) Bass - Kelly Cook Producer - Dave Ogilvie A5 Czar (4:15) Bass - Kelly Cook B1 Alibis (4:33) Backing Vocals - Christine Jones B2 Ophelia (3:55) B3 Circles And Squares (3:25) B4 Beautiful Beast (3:51) B5 Sweet Nothings (4:32)Moev - Dusk And Desirealso check out this page[...]

Hi everyone! Thank goodness I'm finally online! Hopefully the appetizer is good enough - here you find five tracks from several bands (Abecedarians, Odessa, Seventeen Steps, Auscult...) that sound like Joy Division. I must say when I first heard Seventeen Steps I just couldn't believe it's not Ian Curtis himself. ;)

Well, enjoy Dead Souls.

Some time ago I was asked to dj after the Attrition concert in Szczcecin, Poland. Unfortunately their gig had to be postponed and there was some kind of noise party instead. As you may guess I don't play noise music at all, so my set has been waiting for better days. Now it's its chance to have the audience. I picked some obscure tracks (such as ultra rare 7eme...) as well as wider-known stuff (das kabinette) - hope you'll like it.

Ceramic Hello - The Absence Of A Canary V1.1 Side C+D

2008-06-21T22:07:47.165+02:00

Sorry for my long silence, but I was busy due to exams. As a compensation I post something that you're definitely going to like: great tune from Canada, which has been re-released by Vinyl On Demand recently. I can guarantee nobody will be disappointed in The Absence Of A Canary. Now that's what I call DARK SYNTH.Highly recommended!I also have some good news for you. Once upon a time there was a band from NY, called Eleven Pond. What about them? Well, check out this blog and you'll find out that they'll propably re-release the album which was limited to 500 copies and it's now very hard to find. Luckily, you can download mp3 files from that blog, and I can also guarantee you won't be disappointed in Eleven Pond, especially in their song Watching Trees (seriously... I can't get it out of my head!) If you like Eleven Pond and feel like having their re-release, please add some feedback under that post or here. Big thanks for the support!Ad rem!Ceramic Hello was a duo from Burlington, Ontario, formed by Brett Wickens in 1980 after leaving Spoons to start Mannequin Records. He teamed up with Roger Humphreys who added a more classical bent to the minimal synth tunes (in the mold of John Foxx and Mute Records). Their first release was the single "Climatic Nouveaux" / "Theatre Matrix" (MAN003) in 1980. This was followed the next year by the vinyl album The Absence Of A Canary (MAN LP1), which included the single a-side. The 1000 copies have become a collector's item, so much so that in 2006 the German label Vinyl On Demand produced a two disc re-issue, named The Absence Of A Canary V1.1. The original LP has has sold on eBay for up to US$350.Side C+D: Demo sketches recorded in London, England between 1981 and 1984 for an unreleased second LP except track C1 which was the B-side of the Climatic Nouveaux 7". The track "Sampling The Blast Furnace" was a track from the unrealised project "The Partnership" with Andy McCluskey of O.M.D. on vocals and also Martha Ladly. It was produced by William Orbit.
