Johannes Gutenberg _homenagem

2013-02-03T22:03:47.756+00:00

>Johannes Gutenberg Origem: Wikipédia, a enciclopédia livre.

2013-01-31T03:34:38.550+00:00

>Foundry: HypeForTypeThe faces behind the fonts (well, the thinking at least) HypeForType is a growing hotbed of top typographic talent. Born out of the (slightly) obsessive quest for fontal perfection and more respect for the art of beautifully crafted type of one Alex Haigh. You could think of him as the Hugh Heffner of the type world, but in a less seedy way and without the mansion. It was over a year in the making (ever the perfectionist) and the virtual doors have been open for business for over a year now too. In that time, the vision of creating a type foundry to showcase the best in today's typographic talent, and a platform for keen eyed creatives to find and buy truly unique, hand-crafted fonts to add depth to their work that nothing else can do has become something much bigger. [Ler mais...]Home > Exclusive Faces > Eurico Sá Fernandes / ColherDesigned by Eurico Sá Fernandes, and Exclusive to HypeForType. Colher is the first typeface released by Eurico Sá Fernandes. It started to be designed in the beginning of 2010 as a bespoke typeface for his self-initiated project about Portuguese graphic design called Colher (www.colher.net). Initially the typeface wasn't rounded, not until last year. The heart of this typeface is the exploration of the geometric contemporary forms based on a minimal grid, which is composed by a proportion of four units high by two units wide. The limitations of this grid and links provided a new character for this typeface to meet the qualities of a display typeface. In the last year the section of glyphs was increased in order for it to become a retail typeface. Designed by Eurico Sá Fernandes (2012)Languages supported: Albanian, Basque, Cornish, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Faroese, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Malay, Manx, Norwegian Bokmål, Norwegian Nynorsk, Oromo, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Swedishfonte: http://www.hypefortype.com/exclusive-faces/colher-rounded.htmlEurico Sá Fernandes / Colhertipografia.design.arte.multimedia.cultura[...]

MyFonts _Most Popular Fonts of 2012

2013-01-31T03:08:05.172+00:00

>ColophonThe Most Popular Fonts of 2012 was edited and laid out by Jan Middendorp using Nick Sherman’s template, with type specimens by Anthony Noel. The title graphic is set in Nexa Heavy, Hipster Script Pro and Frontage. >Belated best wishes for 2013 from the MyFonts team! The time for our Fonts-of-the-Year list has finally come. Perhaps you wonder how it was put together. We’ll be brief. Basically, this is a list that you, as our users, have voted for — with your wallet. It is based on sales (revenue, not number of copies sold) of fonts that have first appeared on MyFonts since December 1st, 2011. It’s not simply the total sales volume across the year, because that would give an unfair advantage to those that have been on sale longest. So we’ve looked at average sales, correcting for what we might call the Introduction Sales Peak (ISP), kept the number of font families from the same foundry down to a maximum of two, and made sure popular genres are fairly represented. There you go: a type hit parade like no other. Thanks for helping us put it together. [Ler mais...](...)Like Emily Lime and HVD Fonts, Wisconsin’s Yellow Design Studio was so popular in 2012 that it deserves two slots on this list. Anodyne was their first hit of the year — a distressed yet personable font family in a style you could define as “grunge”. Anodyne, an all-caps font family with a hand-printed texture, comes in four distressed variations for each letter and at least two for other characters. Layering regular and shadow versions allows independent control of the shadow color. Switch between lowercase and capital letters to change texture, or use OpenType contextual alternates for extra-distressed variations. [Ler mais...]fonte: MyFontshttp://www.myfonts.com/newsletters/Designers: Alejandro PaulDesigners: Svetoslav SimovDesigners: Juri Zaech tipografia.design.arte.multimedia.cultura[...]

Grandes tipos: Atipo

2013-01-24T13:04:45.395+00:00

Typecast

About Typecast

“A better tool doesn’t make a better craftsman, but a good tool makes working a pleasure.”
Oliver Reichenstein

Our vision of freedom and fulfilment
Call us softies, but our hopes and dreams for Typecast are rooted in the beliefs we share as a team. We believe that as sites become more responsive, devices proliferate and screens shrink, typographic decisions become even more important and influential on site success. Here's what else we believe:

_The web could be more a beautiful place if we could spend less time on assembly, manual changes and rework.

_We need tools that unlock our inner craftsman.

_Designing should be a joy, not a chore, and we deserve the freedom to follow a last minute inspiration, try an even better idea, or completely change creative direction without fear that it might 'waste' project time or money.

_What we hand over to developers can be clearer and more useful. Think effortless passing of the relay baton rather than collisions, skinned knees and fumbling on the track.

So we're working to make Typecast a tool that lets us and other designers experience and fulfil these ideals on a daily basis. As Oliver Reichenstein points out, Typecast can't make your designs beautiful, but we can help make the beautiful possible with less effort and more reward.

And we think that's a pretty good vision to have. [ler mais...]

(...) In September 2011, we released Typecast in private beta to trial it with real designers and discover what was working, what wasn't and how we could improve it. That same month, we gave up client work for one year so we could focus entirely on the app. In October 2012, we launched our public beta, and one week later we were acquired by Monotype. Today we're testing, refining and building new features every week to get us closer to fulfilling our vision.

The digital era has radically changed the processes of making, composing and printing type. Tasks and projects that, not so long ago, required entire working teams, and different kinds of specialists, can now be tackled by one person with one computer… and enough knowledge, patience and perseverance. The same digital era however also allows for more effecitve and faster teamwork. In this talk, Burian will discuss her collaborative work within TypeTogether on type designs conceived for intensive editorial use. The focus will be on the complex issues behind technical, historical and theoretical aspects of these typefaces. How they are set, printed and read. [Ler mais...]

Font Tester is a free online font comparison tool. It allows you to easily preview and compare different fonts side by side with various CSS font styles applied to them. It is very useful for web developers who are looking for just the right font/style/color to use in their pages. To use it all you have to do is simply enter the text you would like to preview, modify the various CSS properties until you find a style you like, and then click on the Get CSS Code button to generate all the necassary CSS code to reproduce those styles in your webpage.

I believe this can be an extremely useful and timesaving tool for anyone who creates web content because it allows you to preview in real-time all of the available CSS font properties and includes a real-time color picker for choosing just the right color (and background color) for your text. The color picker also supports direct editing of the HSV and RGB values and includes over 1,000 pre-defined colors for you to choose from. As an added bonus, Font Tester also comes with a handy character map which you can use to quickly find the corresponding HTML Entity for a particular character.

For step-by-step instructions on how to use Font Tester and explanations of all the features it has to offer you can check out the help section.
