BTW I'll my head off at Ray's suggestion about Gene being brought back in the Wild West. It really is a fab idea. The other comments Ray made, I have to say I'm i full agreement with.

I think you're being a bit unfair about Chris not developing as a character. I actually thought he had the best chance of achieving anything because he's always been like a sponge to both Sam and Alex. I thought it was right that he turned out to be the mole because he had the most to gain and lose (his relationship and status with Shaz), but that's not to say I was happy about it. Of all the bit part players I thought he deserved it the least. And I'll mention something else, if they kill him off next week (and that's just my mind working not anything I've heard) I'm going to be completely peeved about it.

The series has built and built strongly and looks to be ending on a good strong stage to lead into a final series. The chris story was unsettling, i sat there when hunt said "just tell me its not you" and i was willing him to say it wasn't..... but as it happens that is the twist in the tail. It certainly opened up a can of worms.... can't wait for next week.

Here's a suggestion. Next series call it something like Rebel Rebel where Gene Hunt gets mown down by a Harley Low Rider and wakes up as a US Marshall in the Wild West.
Be much more fun.
However, in the unreal world of Ashes To Ashes, my thoughts by Episode 4 is that Alex is destined to die.
Another good reason is that the world is disintegrating around Alex.
Martin Summers killing his younger self means that he cannot exist in the real world - unless the 'death' is symbolic. Then it would be a case, not a very good one, for Alex to bury the past.
Whatever Operation Rose is - Gene knows about it via Mac so it is not Alex alone who knows about this.
With a single red rose - well, again, what get's thrown on the top of a coffin? Last week she was handed a bunch of dead red roses.
If Alex came back as Sam Tyler did - then what was the point. I think that Alex dies.
Life On Mars was good - Ashes To Ashes was a mistake.
Bring back Gene Hunt and his team by all means - but with good scripts and not copycat 'Sweeney' stuff.

disagree about the Chris thing. Looking at prv eps, I think theyve been setting it up all along. there are some definite odd moments and phone calls he does in the BG

The Chris storyline jarred with me and just didn't work. The writers seem to have taken a complete U-turn with his character. The rest of it though built up the antcipation for next week nicely.
