過労死 = 過 (kah = excess) 労 (roe = labor) 死 (shi = death), translated quite literally from the Japanese as "death from overwork" or occupational sudden death

Damn it's been a while, see you in a few hours?

Bad news. We're NOT DEAD yet!

As some of you might heard, Zul is no longer drumming for us.
After months of hiatus, a close friend to the band had decided to jump in our sinking ship and kept us afloat.

We will be playing a show next year. Now go ride a bike.

Ps: Just stop speculating already!

We had decided not to put on any projection like leaked on Ricecooker, but opted for white t-shirts with an old malay proverbs about death written on it and some dead flowers to spice things up. And also gambled our 4 new songs along with the old numbers.

All hands down to Khayall's jawdropping set! Their killer stoner riffs blew everyone away. Damn, we knew it that Haziman, their guitarist always could pull off miracles like that!

Birushanah of course did not dissapoints at all, they seems to be quite an inspiration to the local kids. To be honest, we seriously never expected that extent of appreciation for this genre over here. But maybe, its a hopeful start.

Bunga gugor, tua gugor, putik pun gugor, masak pun gugor.

(image) The flyer finally came out just on time! Thanks to Joe and his beloved friends, we're honored to open for Birushanah, one of the good bands that hopefully will no longer go under anyone's radar after this.

Oh ya, Kah-Roe-Shi will be the third band tonight!

Our deepest condelences for Fahmi of Embrace Hall whom his mother passed away 2 days before the show.
It's really a bummer that Fahmi couldn't make it to the show since he is one of the main reasons we're playing in Johore Bahru.

Our last show was with Conquest For Death last YEAR so we had given all-out for this one. Yeah, but we can' t help to feel a bit awkward at first, but it turns out JB metal kids were nice and supportive. Few failed mosh-pit attempts but there's wild headbangings going on.

Less talk more rock for the metal heads! Or more like less mosh, more hairs, hehe!

(image) After a damn-long HIATUS, we will resurface in Johore Bahru this Saturday! 'Thanks' to Fahmi Embrace and his beloved friends, for never giving up on us.

Oh, don't forget to ask us for copies of I Remember Halloween zine latest issue which featuring an interview with Kah-Roe-Shi. You all really seems need to read more and gossip less!

Regretfully, due to our vocalist tight day-job schedules, its seems that we'll not be able to play in Johore Bahru on 23rd May. Its really a bummer that we gonna miss the chance to play with all the great bands. Thousand apologies. We will try to make it the next time!

‘Armchair Revolution’ t-shirts now almost gone! L and XL is no more, but S and M is still available in limited numbers. Few of them them are at the Ricecooker shop.

We came to the last copy of the limited pos-pak boxset. If time permits there will other version limited boxset in future as we already had few scratch ideas about right now.

And we’re selling the remaining copies of ‘Shi’ cds at a cheap wholesale rate and the minimum copies of 5 cds instead the normal practice of 10 cds.

Just few days back we received an awesome advance track from Fall To Their Death as both of us are in the midst of writing a collaboration tracks for our split. Definitely something that we’re really looking forward to!

Embrace Hall launching party got postponed! We didnt know the exact new date yet, hopefully we could make it. To our friends in Johor and Singapore, thousand apologies. Anyway, people at Embrace are now working hard to solve the issue they're facing with their venue. Hopefully things will work out fine for them.

DIY shows have been very hard to set-up down south due to serious lack of venues. And all these while the kids had been relying on practice studios before it went sour again.

So now, the hardworking people at Embrace Records had taken a bold step by 'liberating' a space, dedicating it to the DIY/independent music/art scene. But again its everyone's responsibilities as well, appreciating and supporting the space. Keeping it real, alive and kicking!

We cant help to notice that the good old grindcore Sickness is also on the bill. See you all at the show!

(image) Niesa C. our propagandist, had designed us a t-shirt 'inspired' by the so called armchair revolution. We gonna play Embrace Hall first very first show, a soon to be open diy/independent space in Johor Bahru on 4th April. So most likely the t-shirts will be available that time.

The prospect of sharing that gig with Hellexist and Abysmal Fornikate making us excited now!

Anyway below are the words you might cannot read on the t-shirt pic.
An Armchair Revolution
what freedom?
what liberation?
we as a product
as another nuisance
no real change
or even progression
no real threat
only manipulation
where shallow hate
dictates all the motion
shameful tradition
a state execution
makes no difference
an armchair revolution!

(image) FAQ#69: Whats up with Kah-Roe-Shi lately?

We had no choice than to take some sweet time working on the collaboration with Fall To Their Death and split LP/CD with Trigger Mortis. Perhaps you will see a new line of limited merchs along the way. But that would have to wait for our official artist Revan and Morgan coming back from their tour with the greencore gods, Raja Singa. Anyway, Embrace distro just put a new batch of KRS's Dejavu Beirut tshirts if you hate to wait. Our website is not updated as we might change the whole layout later, but you could always check out our active blog here. We have a number of Shi cds that we would like to donate or sell at a very cheap wholesale price for local collective and label/distro, please get in touch. No, we dont have any upcoming gigs yet, DIY organizers dont hesitate on trying to book us.

Should any label/distro/collective/gig organizers/you need to contact us: / 013 2497199 (Kid).

(image) Crux's SE Asia (Malaysian leg) tour report featured in Maximum Rock n Roll #307

"Our Malaysian shows all had pretty varied line-ups and definitely featured some of the best bands of the tour. Getting to play with Carburetor Dung in Penang was a great honour, as they have been playing since the early 90's, and are seen by many as the forefathers of punk in Malaysia. That particular show was full of skinheads - something I certainly didnt expect to see here in Asia, but I was told that while there had been problems with racist-skins in the past (so called brown-power skins), this particular group was the anti-fascist variety (a good thing for us in view of our Vietnamese-born vocalist). My favorite band in Malaysia (and perhaps of the whole tour) was Kah-Roe-Shi, who pounded out some heavy-as-fukk hardcore sludge in the vein of His Hero Is Gone. Other awesome bands included: Infinite Delay (Discordance Axis-style grind), Daghila (fast, heavy, screamo) and Blood On Wedding Dress (power violence/thrash)."

- by Lex (Crux's bassist)

We would recommend you buying MRR's issue December 2008 to read the whole report of their tour.

Apart from the more known underground music scene in Sabah, we rarely heard anything from Sarawak. I only knew few bands like Kurasakuasa (Mass Separation played a gig with them years ago), Restart and of course the defunct Buddy Holly zine, Fist of Fury (RIP, now The Times?) and who can forget Sputum (grindcore used to be cooler than indie). And suddenly Kuching, Sarawak now is in the DIY bands touring circuit! Check out their community blog run by Yuen and his friends. 'Midin' distro anyone?

Oh, ya don't forget to google what 'Midin' means. Conquest for obscure punks!

Kah-Roe-Shi 'Shi' CD review on Bebal #4

Kah-Roe-Shi/Pazahora split 7" review on Punk Ping Pong #2

KAH-ROE-SHI is a new Malaysian band that plays heavy down tuned sludge crustcore with a mixture of NEUROSIS, FROM ASHES RISE. There are also 3 songs that also appear on the full length 'SHI' cd. I'm dying to listen to the acoustic intro of RACE DON'T EXIST song. It is really good before starting the song. PAZAHORA is from Singapore. Pazahora also has a good sing-a-long intro. They has a good song structure and a good vocals part but their song structure is not going top notch to blow my speaker. I do not hate their sound production, it's not bad but I'm just wondering if a good band like PAZAHORA can utilize a great sound to take a big impact in their songs. Taking influence from TRAGEDY, FROM ASHES RISE. PAZAHORA is good in doing their job. Anyway, both bands are my favorite bands rite now.

Kah-Roe-Shi 'Shi' CD review on Punk Ping Pong #2

Formally known as UNION OF SLAVES, KAH-ROE-SHI is another Malaysian band that is active nowadays. 7 tracks of heavy hardcore crust a la HIS HERO IS GONE, FROM ASHES RISE, KYLESA and the ilk. The sound production is very good. Not much band really care about their sound production. This kind of music must come with a very heavy and clean sound. I mean very detailed from their guttural vocals to the acoustic intro. I like this cd a lot. Oops..This cd also contains 13 minutes of live video of live video from the band. It's good to use an extra space on cd rather than let it be blank. NOTABLE TRACK - RACE DON'T EXIST. There are more than 10 label co-released this CD. Anyway, I just list one the labels - Bullwhip Records.

I have heard these guys on a few of their previous releases and have been very impressed by their variety of darkened crust. This full length did not disappoint. It certainly threw me off with the packaging being a mini burlap sack with their name written in Kanji characters. Admittedly, it took me a couple minutes to figure out this was the killer band from Malaysia KAH-ROE-SHI! Dark, heavy and thick crust-core with clear nods to FROM ASHES RISE and HIS HERO IS GONE. The lyrics of this band are especially good with lots of information and details in the booklet. A 13-label Malaysian collaboration. Great! After patiently waited for 2 months, 'Shi' cd finally got reviewed on MRR #306. 'Shi' cd also listed as one of the Nick Mangel's top 10 records of the month. Thanks for the support Nick, we really appreciate it!
