YES!!! I recall looking down my nose at B/X many times back in the early 80s while I flipped through the pages of my AD&D hardbacks.

It took decades to realize that I was actually PLAYING B/X the whole time. At least as far as how or game rolled. It was far more B/X than it ever was AD&D. My new game is a slightly modded version of B/X and I couldn't be happier.

I know, right? Of course, with this announcement, GW may as well have said they're going to reach into my pocket, take out my wallet, and take all my cash and my credit cards!

Awesome. : )

Thanks for that, David!

"Lightning Print" - sounds like POD to me.

This clears up some of the mystery, and if you look at the comments the only commentator suggests there are 3 variations of the 4th edition.

Thanks, Martin! Same to you!

Fantastic - I wrote a similar post to this, but it was for Easter! :) http://daddyrolleda1.blogspot.com/2011/04/happy-easter-28-years-ago-todayish.html

Cheers - hope you had a great Christmas!

Ah, WitchCraft. Another game for which I had a great fondness, but which I only got to run once. So many games, so few interested players!

That would have been an awesome mash-up. Allan! If the day comes that it does happen, I hope we get some actual play action. ;)

And yes, while researching this article, I discovered the new edition Kickstarter. Thanks for pointing it out again, though! We'll see how it turns out - but before I buy any new books, I need to replace my 2E books that I had to sell off a few years back. Under duress, of course!

Loved Kult back in the day. I didn't get to play it much, but I did steal ideas from it for my own WitchCraftRPG games of the late 90s, early 2000s.

Christopher---I've loved Kult's setting for strange aeons now (I reviewed it for Pagan's _The Unspeakable Oath_ back in the day), and have always wanted to run a Mage/Kult/HPL crossover game where the underlying veils of reality of Kult were leaching into the reality of the World of Darkness, with shades of Carcosa and Twin Peaks thrown in for good measure. I considered running it under the old Event Horizon _Heaven & Earth_ 1e system, but I'd want a more capable magic system for such a game, I think, hence leaning on Mage/Ars Magica. Hasn't happened yet, though....

Anyway, I'm writing now in case you missed the recent announcement and quite-successful Kickstarter for Kult 3e @ https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1037361623/kult-divinity-lost-horror-roleplaying-game-rpg/description The game will employ a new system, and some old campaigns are being updated to it and published for the first time (including the infamous _Black Madonna_). I thought it might catch your eye.

Allan.

JB - their entire library is available via their website: tritacgames.com. If you do buy one or more of the books from them, start with the 1990/92 edition (with the Phil Foglio cover). That's our go-to edition. The older first and second editions (essentially the same book, just different bindings) are interesting, but not as playable. And the later editions (attempts at D20-ifying the rules) are just a mess.

Huh. I never had a chance to check this out. Having recently considered doing something halfway between BTS and CoC (though with a B/X chassis), this might be something worth picking up first. Do you know if it's still available somewhere in PDF (for sale, I mean)?

To be fair, there was a time when you *needed* a Cha of 17+ (but only a Str of 12+ and a Con of 9+) to be a paladin, and a paladin was a type of "warrior" alongside fighters and rangers, so maybe that's what he's angling for.

Love. Have you looked at the newer Savage World's conversion of the rules? I've run a con game based on that and it works very well. The SW rules are written in a PDF that looks like the original book as far as art and layout, just with modern SW rules instead.

Here's a little bit of the game I ran: http://www.supernovembergames.com/distressonll928/

That stinks - but hope springs eternal! Maybe, some day, they'll get tired of fantasy and desire a break from it. And when that day comes, you'll be prepared!

I'm totally a first edition guy - second edition had promise, but the fact that they left us hanging with essentially half a game killed it for me.

I've never tried running a victim-level game (or, "fighting monsters with a stubby pencil," as a friend of mine puts it) but my old group's other primary GM did so before I joined, I believe, with some success. Maybe, if the current group takes to playing the game regularly beyond October (Michael, are you reading this?), we'll give it a try...

Are you using 1st or 2nd edition BTS? I always liked the idea of the 'Victims' game in the 1st edition and wished they had expanded on it. It has been a long time since I've played BTS. The closest that I came to recently was running Wujcik's 'The Randolph Family Mansion' using Risus as a solo scenario for my wife.

I run a lot of games of BtS some time ago in the 90's-00's but after that I changed my gaming group and the new one is more interested old style fantasy so I have my BtS and Talsorian Cyberpunk's book taking dust in the self.
