Time to make a dancing Tide Pod since those seem to be popular now and I haven’t made a stupid gif in a while.

Mmmmmm, delicioso!

Tue, 16 Jan 2018 15:00:09 -0500

Okay, yes. 2017 sucked.
But 2018 is an opportunity to do something incredible

One way or another, this will be a pivotal year for racial justice, immigration, voting rights, healthcare, education, and LGBTQ+ equality. So this year we all need to step up and commit to whatever political and social good we can handle.

That’s the idea behind the first ever Art Action Day this Saturday, January 20.

What is Art Action Day?

Art Action Day is an opportunity to speak out and make a commitment to action in 2018. With our friends at The Federation, we’re asking you to post about your vision for 2018, and—more importantly—how you’re committing to making that future a reality.

On Saturday we’ll signal boost your posts on and off Tumblr to inspire others.

How you can participate:

You can draw, make a gif, write a song or a poem—anything you want! The prompt is simple:

What do you want the headlines and history books to say about 2018? And what will you do to make it happen?

Maybe it’s helping to pass the DREAM Act or electing a gender-balanced Congress. Maybe it’s ending the stigma around mental illness. If we all commit to doing one thing this year, 2018 will be a very good year.

How to submit:

If you want us to signal boost your post, submit it to

You can also just tag your post #ArtActionDay and #WhatWillYouDo.

❤️  See you Saturday!

nyhistory: Let us march on ballot boxes, march on ballot boxes...

Mon, 15 Jan 2018 14:13:17 -0500

Let us march on ballot boxes, march on ballot boxes until race-baiters disappear from the political arena.

Let us march on ballot boxes until the salient misdeeds of bloodthirsty mobs will be transformed into the calculated good deeds of orderly citizens.

Let us march on ballot boxes until the Wallaces of our nation tremble away in silence.

Let us march on ballot boxes until we send to our city councils state legislatures, and the United States Congress, men who will not fear to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God.

Let us march on ballot boxes until brotherhood becomes more than a meaningless word in an opening prayer, but the order of the day on every legislative agenda.

Let us march on ballot boxes until all over Alabama God’s children will be able to walk the earth in decency and honor.

These words come from the speech delivered by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the conclusion of the 1965 march to Montgomery, Alabama. The march brought national attention to the issue of racial discrimination in voting. The Voting Rights Act, a landmark piece of Civil Rights legislation, became law just five months later.

Photographs, broadsides, and other materials related to Dr. King’s legacy are now on view in the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library reading room.

The Coolest Teen Astrologers Are on Tumblr

Thu, 04 Jan 2018 13:21:02 -0500

The Coolest Teen Astrologers Are on Tumblr:

…[I]t also makes sense that the way most people are introduced to Tumblr’s astrology is through a good meme. The most common formats for this bait either apply to a specific cosmic event or characterize each of the zodiac signs via pop culture or life experiences.

Congratulations to The Ringer-certified Cool Teen Astrologers Kuranda Elwood (@astroalive), Alexis Duong (@ayyries), Marina Hima (@astrologymarina), and Cherry (@astrolocherry) for making the news. We assume they knew Capricorn season would prove fruitful.

Back at it again with the Week in Review

Wed, 03 Jan 2018 18:00:16 -0500

thefandometrics: Good news (Music) Lana Del Rey reaches NØ. 9 after releasing a new single with BØRNS. (Music) Regular, degular, schmegular no more. Cardi B is the first rapper and third artist overall to have three singles in the Billboard Hot 100 Singles at once.  (Celebrities) Call him by his name. Timothée Chalamet jumps 12 spots to No. 4. (Movies) In the jungle you must wait until the dice read 5 or 8. Luckily this isn’t the jungle, just a list, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle debuts at No. 18. (TV) Black Mirror episode idea: the show returns at No. 4. Unhappy with this ranking, it becomes sentient, puts all of Tumblr staff in a sleeper hold, and rewrites the Fandometrics algorithm to force its way to the top. Slightly less good news (TV) Brooklyn Nine-Nine drops ten-ten to No. 17-No. 17. (Video Games) Final Fantasy XV isn’t doing so great. It falls seven spots to No. 13. (Movies) Zootopia tumbles nine spots to No. 14. Is that one comic safely behind us yet? You know the one. (Celebrities) Sweet baby boy John Boyega shoots downward to No. 9. Surely he deserves to be at the top? (Web Stuff) Carmilla is doing its best, but it’s barely clinging on to No. 20. <3 Fans from all over the world are mourning the untimely death of Jonghyun (No. 5). If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, please take the time to look into counseling and prevention resources. They can help you, no matter what is going on. Take care of yourself, Tumblr. The world needs you. [...]

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… there was Week in Review.

Wed, 20 Dec 2017 16:46:15 -0500

thefandometrics: Movers (Video Games) Final Fantasy XV gets some new DLC and jumps 14 spots. Happy 30th anniversary, Final Fantasy! (Music) Brockhampton makes its debut performance on our list at No. 15. (TV Shows) Adventure Time celebrates Finn’s birthday with four new episodes and a return to Fandometrics. Shakers (Web Stuff) Ava’s Demon drops to No. 20 after going on hiatus, but people are banding together at The Eight Deadly Thursdays (@theadhiatusproject) to keep fan momentum moving upward. (Celebs) Looks like things are getting strange for our favorite babysitter. Joe Keery falls eight spots. (Movies) Not even Harry Styles could save this sinking ship. Dunkirk drops six spots to No. 15. The Last Jedi Last week, the long-awaited Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi hit theaters, jumping three spots to No. 1. Its effect ran across three of this week’s lists: (Movies) Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story round out the movie list at 10 and 20, respectively as people find connections between these films and TLJ. (Celebs) Familiar friends Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill fill out the top six (in that order), while Kelly Marie Tran and Domhnall Gleeson pick up the back of the list. (Ships) Reylo uses the force to jump one spot to No. 1. Kylux and Stormpilot also returned to the screens and your hearts. Thank you for a great 2017, friends. We’ll be posting a few videos next week and will see you back here with fresh lists on January 2, 2018. [...]

The reason for the season: Internship applications
Apply now

Who are you looking for?

The person reading this, hopefully. We’re looking for smart, fun, humble people. In general, you need to be enrolled in college and have completed three semesters of coursework. But maybe you took your own path—tell us about it!

What’s the internship?

There’s a bunch. Go here for the full list: Engineering, Marketing, Data science, Business, Design, etc. If you don’t see something for you, keep checking. We’ll be adding more over the next couple months. And yeah they’re all paid—it’s serious work.

Where is it?

Mostly New York, the city of dreams. But also LA, the city of Angelenos.

At least eight weeks. June-ish to August-ish—whatever your school schedule allows.

Seems like a weird question to ask.

How do I apply?

Go here 👈  Find an internship. Click apply. You’ll need a resume and cover letter so now would be a good time to meet your school’s career counselor.

Thu, 14 Dec 2017 16:00:09 -0500

“Particularly damning is what today’s repeal will mean for marginalized groups, like communities of color, that rely on platforms like the internet to communicate, because traditional outlets do not consider their issues or concerns, worthy of any coverage. It was through social media that the world first heard about Ferguson, Missouri, because legacy news outlets did not consider it important until the hashtag started trending.” -  Mignon Clyburn, FCC Commissioner for Net Neutrality

Today the FCC voted 3-2 to kill the net neutrality rules you helped pass back in 2015

Let’s not kid ourselves: This is a major setback in our fight for a free and open internet. But It’s not the end. Not for us, and we hope not for you.

Net neutrality is too important to be subject to the whims of any administration. We need legislative action.

Go to Battle For The Net to get connected directly to your Senators or Representatives. If we work together, we can get it done. Again!

Here’s more from Commissioner Clyburn this morning:

I am optimistic, that we will look back on today’s vote as an aberration, a temporary deviation from the bipartisan path, that has served us so well. I don’t know whether this plan will be vacated by a court, reversed by Congress, or overturned by a future Commission. But I do believe that its days are numbered. (Verge)

Tag filtering is here
Don’t see what you don’t wanna see

In our ongoing effort to help you all determine your own experience here on Tumblr, we’re launching one of our most requested features: the ability to filter out posts from your dashboard based on their tags.

Trying to avoid #Star Wars spoilers? Filter them out. Need a break from all the #holiday excitement this month? Sheesh, fine. Filter it out. It’s your dashboard. Groom it well.

Where do I set up a tag filter?

In your settings! You’ll find it in your general settings on mobile, under “Filtering.” On the web, you’ll find it in your account settings, also under “Filtering.”

That makes sense. Will I know when stuff is being filtered out?

Yup. Just like with Safe Mode, you’ll see a placeholder in your dashboard wherever something is being hidden. If you actually do want to see it, you can click/tap on it, and it’ll appear.

I follow some real nimrods. How can I stop seeing their posts?

Unfollow them! And if they’re really being a jerk, block them. And if they’re truly being hateful, report them.

Anything else I should know?

Sure. There are lots of other tools for making Tumblr the Tumblr you want to see. You can read about them all in our help center.

🚨 The FCC plans to kill net neutrality on December 14 🚨

It’s real simple: ISP lobbyists are pushing the FCC to kill net neutrality so phone and cable companies can block apps, slow down websites, and charge fees to control what you see and do online.

Our only chance is congressional pressure and legislative action. But we need grassroots support. Tell your representatives that you support “Title 2” rules and ask for their help protecting a free and open internet.

Go to Battle For The Net to be connected to your congresspeople.
