New Cookbooks from CarbSmart

2014-06-01T17:40:02Z

(image) The CarbSmart cookbooks are a great concept. They are short, inexpensive cookbooks by top low-carb recipe developers, each with about 50 recipes. The most recent one has now been released: Grain-Free, Sugar-Free Living Cookbook by Dana Carpender & Caitlin Weeks.

This cookbook contains the following sections: Condiments, Beverages, Cookies, Cakes and Pies, Sweet Treats, Breakfast, and Breads, Crackers and Muffins. Many of the recipes are Paleo-Friendly, although a lot of them do use sweeteners such as stevia, xylitol, and erythritol. (CarbSmart is also selling collections of the more unusual ingredients in the cookbooks, just scroll down the page.)

Dana Carpender is the author is my very favorite low-carb cookbook: 500 Low-Carb Recipes, and many others. Caitlin Weeks publishes Paleo recipes and other great info on her Grass Fed Girl blog.

Other CarbSmart cookbooks include the Fat Fast Cookbook by Dana Carpender, Amy Dungan, and Rebecca Latham, and Easy Low-Carb Living cookbooks by Theresa Sloam and Tracy Westbrook.

Get Out the Grill!

2014-05-22T13:02:52Z

(image) In the U.S. the first long weekend of the summer is almost here, -- the traditional beginning of the summer grilling season. There's so much to love about grilling. It gets us outside. The cooking and cleanup are easy. Plus, I love the informality of entertaining with grilled food. All this and delicious, too!

Spring Greens

2014-04-30T00:11:14Z

(image) Have you heard of a CSA? That stands for "Community-Supported Agriculture" and it's basically a subscription to a local farm. Every week I get a box of whatever produce is ready for harvest at that time. It's a good time of year to check out what CSA's might be in your area, and one place to do that is LocalHarvest.org.

At this time of year, it's greens galore (and asparagus - yum)! This is great, because not only are greens superior sources of a vast array of nutrients (check out the nutrients in, for example, chard), but I find that eating a lot of greens helps to keep my fasting blood glucose lower (I'm pre-diabetic).

Spring is Salmon Season

2014-04-25T11:59:34Z

(image) I live near the Pacific side of the U.S. and it's salmon season! This means I have access to super-fresh salmon -- delicious, nutritious, and one of the few fish my husband will eat. That's actually great, because wild salmon is simply one of the best things we can eat, both in terms of flavor and because it's so good for us! Salmon is a true super food, with healthy fats, Vitamin D, protein, and other healthy nutrients. Are you a salmon lover? I have lots of great info for you:
