This is good news of course as it brings LG's 2014 flagship up to speed on the Android platform, and is actually likely to be the last major Android build that the handset gets.

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 07:03:06 -0500(image) We are spoilt for choice at the entry level of the smartphone market these days, so when an underwhelming handset arrives we are of course disappointed. It is easy to forget that these are handsets that cost little, so our disappointment should always be tempered by that. However, with this market thriving you really to not need to buy something cheap and nasty.
Thu, 10 Mar 2016 06:39:01 -0500(image) All the buzz is currently around LG's interesting and somewhat innovative G5 flagship, and rightly so. However, the Korean company has another device that fits the same billing as the G5, and it too is of flagship quality. The LG V10, the quirky and massive phablet that landed late last year is now receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Wed, 09 Mar 2016 20:02:43 -0500(image) We have pretty much lost faith in the rumor we published yesterday regarding Apple making a 5.8-inch iPhone with OLED screen. While the initial claim itself is not outlandish, pointing to a 2017 (at the earliest) launch for the device, the latest report suggesting Apple will fit the handset with folding screens has us plenty skeptical.
Wed, 09 Mar 2016 19:53:44 -0500(image) Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge flagship is barely out of the gates, but already the company is issuing what it describes as an "urgent" update. Of course, it is common for products to arrive with small teething problems, but it is rare to see any update billed as urgent, so what?s the deal here?
Wed, 09 Mar 2016 19:39:39 -0500(image) HTC is fighting to keep itself relevant, and much will depend on the company's upcoming One M10 flagship and whether the Vive VR headset can convert its buzz into sales. Another way would be for the company to cozy up to Google and the Android platform even more, which could actually be in the offing as reports suggest HTC has signed a three year deal to build Nexus hardware.
Tue, 08 Mar 2016 19:59:29 -0500(image) Apple is fully expected to launch a smaller (iPhone Se) this month, but what about the company's upcoming flagships that will launch at the end of year? The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus should be a near total overhaul of the current iPhone 6 range, and that could mean an even larger screen for the Plus, according to some reports.
Tue, 08 Mar 2016 19:38:42 -0500(image) Android 6.0 Marshmallow is struggling to gain any traction in the market, and after nearly six months available for devices it is on just 2.3% of all devices running the platform. While Android adoption is always more stagnant than on rival platforms iOS and even Windows, this very low number is sure to disappoint Google.
Mon, 07 Mar 2016 20:12:03 -0500(image) HTC needs all the help it can get, the company has seen smartphone sales stumble, consumer interest in its flagships wane, and profits and earnings collapse. Samsung said during the launch of the handsets that it would launch the devices on March 11, but it seems the two U.S. based retailers are getting ahead of the game and fulfilling pre-order commitments early.

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 18:04:06 -0500(image) As ridiculous as it is, the Android market is one of spec one-upmanship. The company with the beefier hardware stands out, at least that is how many Chinese companies approach the platform, thinking that the more specs you cram in the better the device is. It almost never works like that, the best companies and handsets combine strong specs with manufacturing knowhow.
Tue, 01 Mar 2016 17:44:26 -0500(image) The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are a pair of smartphones that are packed to the gills with the latest mobile hardware, a veritable mix of the latest and greatest technology. However, while Samsung has spared no expense in virtually all departments, it has seemingly stopped short of pushing the boat out for quick charging.

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 19:58:36 -0500(image) We were not expecting much from Sony at the Mobile World Conference, and while the company didn't launch a new flagship, it did arrive with three rather enticing products. The Xperia X is among them, and it is looking like continuing Sony's recent quality output in the mid-range market. Hopefully this can buck another Sony trend, the one where its quality smartphones fail to sell in great numbers, but we?ll wait and see on that front.

As you can probably tell by the names, these are all variants of the same handset.

The previous Snapdragon 810 was a misstep for the chip manufacturer, but the 820 is a beast and it has powered the LG G5 to a record score on AnTuTu.
Tue, 23 Feb 2016 16:36:48 -0500(image) Ouch! We knew it would be expensive, but HTC has just revealed that the Vive VR headset will cost a massive $799 when it launches to consumers on February 29, open to pre-orders.
Tue, 23 Feb 2016 16:25:30 -0500(image) HTC announced the One X9 smartphone, and while it is not the flagship we all want, it is a step in the right direction and an improvement on the One A9, from which it is based. MobileBurn was hugely critical of the One A9 of course, from its lazy design to insulting price, we did not like the handset a great deal.
Tue, 23 Feb 2016 16:06:56 -0500(image) HTC may not have unveiled its latest flagship at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, but the company did take the curtain off a handful of new devices. The Desire 530, Desire 630, and Desire 825 are aimed at younger smartphone owners with their funky looks, but actually we think they represent more of the same from HTC, and that?s a problem.
Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:42:07 -0500(image) Samsung may have been focused on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones at MWC this week, but the Korean company also found time to launch another product. The item in question is the Gear 360, a camera that allows users to take 360 degree images and videos, following a similar product launched by LG this week, the 360 VR.
Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:29:30 -0500(image) Lenovo's presence at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) was fairly substantial, with the Chinese company unveiling new smartphones and tablets. In terms of handsets, the Motorola owner raised the curtain on a pair of devices that are aimed at the budget crowd. However, as we have become used to with Chinese companies, the Vibe K5 and K5 Plus provide a potent package for their humble price points.
Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:07:55 -0500(image) We have already seen LG's new G5 flagship, a smartphone that aims for innovation. Samsung was never going to produce something as fresh with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, and so it proves with the two flagships revealed at MWC. Sure, fresh innovation may be missing from these handsets, but instead Samsung has set about perfecting devices that were already among the very best on the market anyway.

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 18:46:17 -0500(image) The Windows platform has always struggled against the market dominance of Android and the sales might of Apple. Microsoft's OS is very good and gets better all the time, especially in its current Windows 10 guise, but it has always been under supported in terms of high end flagships. Traditional smartphone giants have shied away from the platform, leaving Microsoft to forge its own hardware path.
Mon, 22 Feb 2016 18:10:33 -0500(image) LG's G5 flagship landed at MWC with a pretty sizeable thud, bringing with it a modular design that lets users swap out the bottom of the handset to replace the battery, add microSD storage, or place an accessory on the G5.

Those familiar with last year's G4 and even the autumn launched V10 will know that the G5 is yet another radical departure from LG. The company is arguably the only one really changing up the look of its flagship output through each device.
Tue, 02 Feb 2016 17:01:55 -0500(image) Apple is breaking with convention and will launch a bunch of new products this spring. Over recent years Cupertino has shifted its product announcements to the fall, even revealing the Apple Watch in September, six months before it launched. Of course, spring launches are not unprecedented for the company and Apple is returning to the early year launch silly season with three new products that will be announced on March 15th.
Tue, 02 Feb 2016 16:21:57 -0500(image) Microsoft's fourth quarter sales were disappointing. The company is still looking for a breakthrough device as the rather excellent Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950 seem to have been a miss with consumers.
Mon, 01 Feb 2016 15:31:25 -0500(image) The beefy Moto X Force, with all its shatterproof screen rugged goodness, is making its debut in India, three months after its launch in other global regions. The Motorola device is the latest push from parent company Lenovo to get more market share in India, Lenovo is currently the fifth largest manufacturer in the country.
