Nominations sought for 2017 Irvin Atly Jefcoat Excellence in Advising Awards

The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President at Mississippi State is now taking nominations for the 2017 Irvin Atly Jefcoat Excellence in Advising Awards. The Jefcoat awards honor both a full-time MSU faculty adviser and a full-time staff adviser for contributions to student advising. The deadline to submit nominations is March 31.

One conversation with a program officer could impact a faculty member or researcher rethinking the project focus or questioning if you are submitting to the appropriate funding track or agency directorate. Green Zone training opportunities Wednesday and Thursday

The G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans at Mississippi will offer Green Zone training on Wednesday [Feb. 22] and Thursday [Feb. 23] from 2-5:00 p.m. in the Maddox Multipurpose Room of Nusz Hall — the new Center for America's Veterans on campus. The purpose of this training is to encourage awareness of and advocacy for student veterans, service members and dependents at MSU.

Mortar Board nominations now open

Mississippi State University faculty are encouraged to nominate outstanding students who are completing their junior year to the Mortar Board National College Honor Society. Students selected for membership must be in the top 35 percent of their junior class and demonstrate a commitment to scholarship, leadership and service. Criteria for application to the MSU Mortar Board Chapter include a minimum GPA of 3.30, junior class standing and potential for leadership and service to MSU and the community.

Southern Soul Assembly, featuring four of the South’s most perceptive and passionate singer-songwriters, will kick off the MSU Riley Center’s 2017 Spring/Summer Performing Arts Series with a concert on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. A free pre-show party with refreshments will begin at 6:30 p.m. Southern Soul Assembly consists of JJ Grey of JJ Grey & Mofro, Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars, and solo artists Anders Osborne and Marc Broussard.

“Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat” will visit the MSU Riley Center for a family show on March 3 at 7 p.m. You know what that means: mischief and mayhem to delight every child in the audience — regardless of age. Anyone age 3 or older will enjoy the chaos caused by the cat and his manic helpers, Thing One and Thing Two. Can the cat repair the damage before the children’s mother comes home?
