Mississippi State University’s Starkville campus will remain closed Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, due to state travel warnings. Severe winter weather conditions and long periods of sub-freezing temperatures in Central and North Mississippi have made driving conditions extremely dangerous, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol.

MSU Extension Undergraduate Apprenticeship Program opportunities available

The Mississippi State University Extension Service is offering eight summer apprenticeship opportunities in 2018 for qualified juniors and seniors through the MSU Extension Undergraduate Apprenticeship Program. Each paid apprenticeship offers an integrated research and Extension experience, in which the student works directly with a faculty specialist to assist with ongoing research and help develop a related educational product or process that successfully translates into relevant outreach to key stakeholders. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. CST on Feb. 28, 2018.

African-American Studies director candidates to deliver campus presentations

The second and third candidates for the director of African-American Studies position at Mississippi State will interview on campus this month. All university members are welcome to each candidate's open presentations, which will focus on their vision for the program. Darryl Scriven will make his presentation on Jan. 23 from 1:45-3 p.m. in Colvard Student Union's Fowlkes Auditorium. Tommy Curry will make his presentation on Jan. 26 from 1:30-2:45 p.m., also in Fowlkes Auditorium.

GTKCM Dog Show set for this weekend at Mississippi Horse Park

The Golden Triangle Kennel Club of Mississippi will host its annual licensed conformation shows, obedience and rally trials at the Mississippi Horse Park on January 13-14 beginning at 8:30 a.m. both mornings. Admission is free.

Starkville/MSU Community Band invites new members for spring

The MSU band staff invites all faculty, staff and graduate students with previous band experience to play in the Starkville/MSU Community Band. The band will meet on Monday evenings during the spring semester from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the MSU Band Hall at 72 Hardy Road. The first meeting will be Monday, January 8, 2018. The Starkville/MSU Community Band will perform two concerts during the semester.
