Thanks for the Donation!

Tue, 02 Nov 2004 19:14:30 -0000

I received an anonymous donation to the Speller Pages project and wanted to say thank you! The development effort is fueled by users' support in any form, whether it's a donation, positive feedback, or even reports of problems or bugs. I hope to devote more time to the next major release of Speller Pages soon, but in the meantime thanks for all the support.

Minor bug fixes: Speller Pages 0.5.1

Thu, 01 Jul 2004 05:29:33 -0000

Speller Pages 0.5.1 includes fixes for a couple bugs that were reported a long time ago. Both the bugs have to do with apostrophe problems. Please check out the change log at the bottom of the release notes page (http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=250016) for more details.

Version 0.5 offers improved stabilty. Read on...

Mon, 15 Mar 2004 05:07:59 -0000

Version 0.5 is released with a fix for a long-standing issue: now it doesn't blow up if it encounters non-ASCII characters. Now, any non-ASCII character entered will be converted to Unicode and handled gracefully.

Of course, remember that words with non-ASCII characters will probably show up as "misspelled" or perhaps alltogether ignored by the spell checker depending on the language used (by default en_US). But at least now the spell checker doesn't come to an awkward halt if it encounters such characters, so you can spell check "around" them.

But what this means is that you can use punctuation such as bullet points, smart quotes and so on without any problem. This is especially helpful when you past text into an HTML textarea from MS Word or something.

Also, in 0.5

There's some improved Aspell error handling. More information is exposed through the UI in the event that the call to Aspell fails.

Finally, some new functions were added to make it easier to check all the text fields on an HTML page. These methods were suggested, and originally written by Nicklaus Winker. See changelog for more details. Thanks for the input Mr. Winker!

New doc: Creating a server-side script for Speller Pages

Wed, 17 Sep 2003 03:59:46 -0000

A new technical document (https://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=20403&group_id=86602) outlines how to plug a new server-side spell checking script into Speller Pages. It demonstrates the interface between the server code and the client code, and explains how the server script exercises the JavaScript wordWindow object's interface to integrate with Speller Pages UI.

Enhancements coming in version 0.3

Thu, 11 Sep 2003 06:28:36 -0000

A few interface improvements will be implemented in version 0.3. The improvements are meant to make Speller Pages faster and easier to use, while allowing for the recovery of input errors.

In 0.3, there will be two new buttons arranged on the spell check window: the Close button and Undo button. The Close button terminates the spell checking, applying any updates that had already been made to misspelled words. The Undo button reverses the previous ignore/replace command; back to the very first command if need be. Finally, the other interface enhancement is the ability to double-click a word in the suggestion list to make a single replacement.

The enhancements in Version 0.3 correspond to Speller Pages RFE numbers 803822, 803823 and 803825.

Speller Pages Version 0.3 will be released within the next week or so. Stay tuned.
