P2P-Radio 2.0 released

Sun, 06 Feb 2005 16:09:48 -0000

P2P-Radio 2.0 is available for download! After three Betas, P2P-Radio 2.0 is stable and ready for daily use. Version 2.0 includes support for Ogg Vorbis streams and the Yellow Pages system.

Compared to the last beta version, new command line parameters have been added to give you even more control. You can decide whether the media player should be started and whether you want to use P2P-Radio's stream signing feature.

To make sure that nobody will disturb you while you're listening, the monitor support has been turned off by default.

The Windows Edition got support for the system tray, another feature which makes P2P-Radio more comfortable to use. Stations broadcasted with the Windows Edition will be listed on the Yellow Pages system too.

P2P-Radio 2.0 Beta 3 released

Tue, 10 Aug 2004 13:40:36 -0000

This release adds support for M3U playlists. It's now very easy to take a stream from Peercast and re-stream it with P2P-Radio.

To make P2P-Radio easier to use, listeners don't need to enter a bandwidth limit anymore. They can set it with a new menu item if needed.

The media player won't be started automatically anymore if you're broadcasting.

Also many questions and answers have been added to the FAQ. Try and enjoy P2P-Radio!

New Windows Edition of P2P-Radio released

Mon, 26 Jul 2004 23:20:01 -0000

A new Windows Edition of P2P-Radio has been released. It runs out-of-the-box (no Java Runtime Environment required!) and starts up faster.

The Windows Edition has been compiled with GCJ, a free Java Compiler that generates native executables. The GUI has been ported to SWT (Standard Widget Toolkit).

Unfortunately, the Windows Edition is not yet perfect. German is not supported, and streams can't be signed (but verification of streams is possible, you have to specify the command line parameter "-verify").

If you encounter any bugs, please report them because the Windows port of GCJ is not very mature. I've found a GCJ bug that's now fixed while trying to compile P2P-Radio: http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=12647

Many thanks to Mohan Embar for fixing the bug and for providing the GCJ for Windows package.

Important hint for broadcasters: You should still use the Java Edition. Only the Java edition can sign streams, and it is mature.

P2P-Radio 2.0 Beta 2 released

Sat, 03 Apr 2004 23:00:22 -0000

Since Beta 1, many bugs have been discovered and fixed. Also the command line parameter "-dontverify" was added to turn off the CPU time consuming verification of the stream.

The Java Web Start edition of P2P-Radio has been updated, and the Windows installer is now able to display all messages in either English or German.

If you had no luck with Beta 1, it's the right time to try again!

P2P-Radio 2.0 Beta 1 released

Thu, 25 Mar 2004 20:33:32 -0000

P2P-Radio has made a big step forward with this release! It now supports Ogg Vorbis, the free alternative to the MP3 format. All active stations are listed in the new MySQL/PHP based Stations List on the project's website. Also the GUI has changed a bit and is more user-friendly.

About P2P-Radio:

P2P-Radio is a peer-to-peer broadcasting system. It uses the MP3/Ogg Vorbis/NSV stream of a Internet radio or TV station as input and distributes it over its own P2P network. You can use your own media player for play-back!

P2P-Radio is easy to use and has many features: It detects freeloaders, signs the stream data, has a low communication overhead and provides a monitor that can show the P2P network structure.

How to get it:

You can download the binary, the source and the windows installer on the project website: http://p2p-radio.sourceforge.net
