Socket Streams Library 0.7.0 (alpha) released

Wed, 08 Jun 2005 03:35:07 -0000

The Socket Stream library is an implementation of the C++ Standard Library IOStreams over the POSIX socket interface.

This is an alpha release of the library's source code. The version numbering now follows the APR style. Configuring, building and installing the library is just like your normal autotools-managed project. The dso generated by the build system now is versioned using libtool with the linker flag -vesion-info.

The library is now fully usable.

This release contains minor changes and bugfixes found during experimentation on client code.

The CVS repository in SourceForge is no longer being updated; check out the SVN repository in https://mndfck.org/svn/socketstream/

This release is synchronized with a new irc_client project in the example/ subdirectory. Check the Subversion repository for example projects.

Socket Streams Library 0.6.0 (alpha) released

Major changes are:

- removed crazy operator& in address classes; let's welcome reinterpret_cast into the fold.
- resolver is now a container of results
- basic_socket is no longer CopyConstructible
- basic_listener works fine

There's still much to do in order to produce a stable library, but the basics are slowly being stabilized.

The CVS repository in SourceForge is no longer being updated; check out the SVN repository in https://mndfck.org/svn/socketstream/

There are a number of independent example/ projects there, progressively more complex and nearing realistic usage patterns.

Socket Streams library 0.5.0 (alpha) released

Major changes can be found in the network address classes, now very slim, and a new network name resolver class, very useful; a cleaner, smaller, basic_socket class.

There's still much to do in order to produce a stable library, but the basics are slowly being stabilized.

Socket Stream Library 0.4.0 (alpha) released

Mon, 22 Dec 2003 04:01:43 -0000

The Socket Stream Library is an implementation of the traditional C sockets as C++ Standard Library Streams.

This is an alpha release of the library's source code. The version numbering now follows the APR style. Configuring, building and installing the library is just like your normal autotools-managed project.

The library is now fully usable.
There is a lot to tweak in the core functionality, planned API changes, and many support features to add, but the iostream classes (the socketbuf class in particular) are basically complete.

This release introduces two new user-friendly headers (now a total of six), for those who want access to the basic_socket and basic_socketbuf classes. The next release will bring the pair class up-to-date with her own friendly header.

Tweaks include removal of higher-level methods from basic_socket, changed sockets_base enumeration members to static const, implementation of showmanyc() method in basic_socketbuf, and default parameter to shutdown() methods for your trivial usage.

Future work includes the long-needed work on the testsuite, a poller class, support of wchar_t and std::locale's, and perhaps a more compact (and perhaps template class) basic_socket.

Socket Stream Library 0.3.0 (alpha) released

This release introduces a new user-friendly header (now a total of four). Also, complete support to building in a separate directory - even make check. Also, lot's of doxygen documentation was added.

Last but not least, all examples in the example/ directory are fully working. With this release, they are more readable, and more useful in the command-line. Also, a client example was added to help test protocol families other than IPv4. See the README and try running the examples with no arguments.

Socket Stream Library 0.2.9 (alpha) released

Wed, 10 Sep 2003 19:15:52 -0000

The Socket Stream Library is an implementation of the traditional C sockets as C++ Standard Library Streams.

This release introduces three user-friendly header files for library users, and a new installation directory setup. The README is not up to date, see the example/ directory for usage. Nothing mysterious.

This is an alpha (or perhaps pre-alpha) release of the library's source code. Configuring, building and installing the library is just like your normal autotools-managed project.

Also, all examples in the example/ directory are fully working. See the README.

This release prepares the way for release 0.3.0 where we expect the library to enter in a full alpha phase, with more stable interface. Also, with the next release documentation will be improved a bit.

Socket Stream Library 0.2.8 (alpha) released

Also, all examples in the example/ directory are fully working. See the README.

This release prepares the way for release 0.3.0 where we expect the library to enter in a full alpha-to-beta phase, stabilizing the interface.

Socket Stream Library 0.2.6 (alpha) released

Mon, 14 Jul 2003 17:06:00 -0000

The Socket Stream Library is an implementation of the traditional C sockets as C++ Standard Library Streams.

This is an alpha (or perhaps pre-alpha) release of the library's source code. Working right now:

* make all
* make install
* make check
* make doxygen

Also, in example/ , see some experimental code implementing simple services (and an IRC client). See the README.

Socket Stream Library 0.2.4 (alpha) released

Tue, 08 Jul 2003 06:03:51 -0000

The Socket Stream Library is an implementation of the traditional C sockets as C++ Standard Library Streams.

This is an alpha (or perhaps pre-alpha) release of the library's source code. It is usable, though.

Socket Stream Library initial import of source code

Sat, 05 Jul 2003 23:08:51 -0000

Socket Stream Library is an implementation of the traditional C sockets as C++ Standard Library Streams.

This is the initial import of source to Sourceforge's CVS server. The code is still alpha as many interface aspects are still undecided.
