Earlier this week, I reported that David Tom had lost his role as Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless to soap newcomer Burgess Jenkins, who played Sgt. Eddie Hall on Army Wives.
In an exclusive interview with Soaps in Depth, Tom admitted that he was blindsided when he got the news.
"As far as I knew, nobody knew about this. Not even the cast," he said. Then he added, "One of the reasons they said they let me go is that I obviously looked too young when they placed me with [the new] Kelly. Well, she was hired after I was. I don't understand why they didn't think about that [when they were casting her]. We don't really have a storyline [anyway]; she's with Jack. I thought I looked fine with Missy [Claire Egan, Chelsea]. I really loved working with her."
As for the future, Tom says he would be happy to join another soap, but he isn't going to sit at home and stew over the loss of his job.
"The worst thing you can do is mull about it," he said.
The complete interview with David Tom will appear in the June 16 CBS issue of Soaps in Depth.

In the two months that Cady McClain has been playing Kelly Andrews on The Young and the Restless, she has settled nicely into the role of the woman who moved to Genoa City following the untimely death of her young son, and who, after having earlier slept with his brother Billy, is now involved with Jack Abbot.
With a diverse storyline, Cady has had the opportunity to work with a good portion of the Y&R cast. "The one person I haven't [worked with] is Christian LeBlanc," she says. "I hope that he and I get to cross paths. I think he's an amazing actor."
Whether or not that happens, the former All My Children and As the World Turns actress is enjoying her time on the No. 1 soap. She says, "There are no divas. There's no BS. Everyone is just there to work, have a good time and do good work. It's an amazing set right now."

Kate del Castillo follows up her successful run in La Reina del Sur with a starring role in Dueños del Paraíso. In the new series, Castillo will play Anastasia Cardona, the widow of a well-known Mexican drug lord, who has become psychologically disturbed by the violence that has surrounded her. Anastasia then becomes the target of the so-called drug wars.
Dueños del Paraíso will air in the U.S. on Telemundo, who will co-produce the project with Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN).
"We are extremely proud of this historic coproduction agreement with the company that has led scripted drama in Chile," said Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Internacional. "This coproduction will have a significant impact in the international markets, as both companies dedicate their best resources to this project. Written by Pablo Illanes, this story is inspired in real events that took place at the end of the '70s and early '80s, a period marked by intense controversy both in Miami, with the arrival of the drug wars, and in Chile under the military government of Augusto Pinochet."
Dueños del Paraíso will be taped on location in Miami, New York and Chile, and will feature the special participation of top Chilean stars which TVN will cast through a national search. Illanes previously wrote the novelas ¿Dónde Está Elisa? and Alguien te Mira.

For all the naysayers who were not happy with the recasting of Billy Abbott when David Tom took over for Billy Miller, the producers at The Young and the Restless agreed with you and have recast the role yet again.
According to Daytime Confidential, Burgess Jenkins, who played Sgt. Eddie Hall on Army Wives, is the new Billy.
Jenkins tweeted out the following message, confirming the news: "So excited to be joining the Y&R family! Thanks so much for the outpouring of warm welcome from all the fans!"
In addition to Army Wives, Jenkins other credits include Nashville, One Tree Hill and Drop Dead Diva, as well as the TV movie Christmas Cupid.
