Romney dishonest about Vietnam War

Fri, 08 Jun 2012 01:53:34 -0400

The AP has reported that, over a 5 year period during the height of the Vietnam War, candidate for President Willard Mitt Romney received 4 draft deferments to avoid going to Vietnam. Due to the Wisconsin recall election this story has missed the news cycle with the exception of liberal news shows like Martin Bashir, Rachel Maddow and The Ed Show. Romney received deferments as a student at Standford University and while doing missionary work in France. At question are earlier statements that Romney made about the War. As a Presidential Candidate in 2007 Romney told the Boston Globe:"I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there, and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam."And as a Massachusetts US Senate candidate in 1994, he told The Boston Herald,"I was not planning on signing up for the military. It was not my desire to go off and serve in Vietnam, but nor did I take any actions to remove myself from the pool of young men who were eligible for the draft."  John McCain, who staked his election on his experiences in Vietnam and serving in a POW war camp, has fully endorsed Romney's candidacy and lends his brand to attacking President Obama's foreign policy credentials to blunt the successes of the administration. President Obama is the first President of our era who was not eligible for the Vietnam draft, but has enhanced the Bush/Cheney policy of taking the fight to Al Qaeda and killing its leader, Osama bin - Facebook: and Twitter: @enewsreference [...]
