How the Media Is Bashing the Boomers in Black and White

Sat, 13 Dec 2014 09:07:08 -0600

The media frequently manipulates images in such a way so as to present a much different perspective quite distinct from reality. Which is why I'm puzzled as to how come there are so many black & white images in the media when reporting on events that took place during the 1970s and 1980s when color film was common. Clever imagery has transformed McArthur Park to Jurassic Park with a click of a mouse.

Mom-Isms: A Mother's Words to Live By

Thu, 15 May 2014 09:49:03 -0500

Mother's Day is upon us, and as we celebrate and revel in our appreciation for our mothers, many worry about presents and yet one of the best gifts it is to reflect on some of the many things our mothers gave us in our youth. Our mom used Mom-isms which were taken from versions of Aesop's fables, Mother Goose stories or expressions she passed down to us from her mother. Some were just plain annoying when I was younger, but ring true in our more mature years and now find myself repeating these nuggets of wisdom.

Good News for Boomer Offspring

Thu, 15 May 2014 08:13:56 -0500

Baby Boomers, that group of children born after World War II, were extraordinarily lucky in many ways. They never had to fear the Nazis, war on their own turf, death camps or serious hunger. They were born after atomic bomb explosions so horrific they would and could never take place again. And, in the United States at least, they grew up in an economic boom that went on for decades, giving them a sense of security seldom seen in the world. As icing on the cake, they grew into young adulthood just in time for widespread use of the Pill but before for the onset of AIDS. In other words, a time of sexual freedom and flower power.

Boomer Grandparent Gift Ideas That Keep On Giving

Wed, 08 Jan 2014 16:20:06 -0600
