Left to right: Chief Warrant Officer 2 Brad Fowers, Master Sgt. Keith Gamble, Maj. Mark Nutsch, Air Force Lt. Col. Allison Black and author Doug Stanton pose in front of De Oppresso Liber, or the Horse Soldier, a 16-foot bronze statue honoring the work of Special Forces Soldiers in Afghanistan at the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom in the last months of 2001. Recently rededicated, the statue stands near ground zero in New York. Fowers, Gamble and Nutsch served on some of the Special Forces teams that the statute recognizes. Stanton wrote a best-selling book about some of their experiences, "Horse Soldiers."

The quartet won an Olympic gold medal in bobsleigh for Team USA for the first time in 62 years at the Whistler Sliding Centre on Saturday. Seven Soldiers will be among the other athletes representing the United States Feb. 9-25, in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Troopers of 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, received their M3 Cavalry Fighting Vehicles Jan. 11, at Fort Stewart, Ga. This is the first of many combat tracked vehicles the Spartan Brigade will receive this year. The brigade is in the middle of converting into the Army’s 15th armored brigade combat team, the conversion will provide combatant commanders increased capabilities to address global threats.

A pair of California Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters take off from Los Alamitos Army Airfield, Los Alamitos, California, Jan. 9, 2018. The helicopters, along with their crews and rescue equipment, were activated from the airfield's flight facility to assist civil authorities with response to storm-driven mudslides in areas burned by recent wildfires in Southern California. Eight California National Guard helicopters were activated throughout the state.
