Thu, 23 Mar 2017 23:05:07 EDT

Justin Verlander came to Spring Training six weeks ago with a goal to get himself closer to top form around Opening Day and avoid the first-half struggles that slowed his 2016 season. He won't know for sure how well he did that until he takes the mound at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago in a week and a half, but he at least has given it his best shot.

Greene finds form, if not always feeling, in 'pen

Wed, 22 Mar 2017 19:08:35 EDT

Shane Greene's slow start this spring had nothing to do with the blood circulation issued that led to surgery two years ago. This spring, Greene said, had to do with mechanics and trying to stay back in his delivery. "All Spring Training I've been trying to get my arm to catch up," he said. "I finally stopped thinking about it, and it caught up, and everything felt great."

Fri, 17 Mar 2017 18:41:12 EDT

After an up-and-down outing against the Yankees in Friday's 3-0 loss, in which Michael Fulmer came within a pitch of a bases-loaded walk and escaped but gave up a big inning with seeing-eye doubles, Fulmer looked at the bright side: If nothing else, he stretched out his pitching stamina.
