The Royals rallied for three runs in the eighth -- fueled by an RBI double from Kendrys Morales and a two-run single from Alex Gordon -- to beat the Twins, 5-2, on Wednesday night, their fourth straight win. But the Royals were eliminated from postseason contention as Baltimore beat Toronto.

The Royals truly believe they went out like champions. The defending World Series champions were officially were eliminated from postseason play despite Wednesday's 5-2 win over Minnesota. Baltimore also won, ending the Royals' dreams of going to a third straight World Series.

Cain's injuries most damaging to Royals in '16

The Royals certainly have missed Mike Moustakas, lost for the season in May after knee surgery. They missed Alex Gordon when he was out five weeks and closer Wade Davis when he was on two DL stints. But if there was one guy the Royals missed the most it likely was center fielder Lorenzo Cain.

Royals right-hander Dillon Gee has been shut down for the season after being diagnosed with blood clots after Sunday's game in Detroit. Manager Ned Yost also indicated that outfielder Lorenzo Cain, who has been dealing with a Grade 2 sprain of his left hand, is also officially shut down for the season.

Kansas City bridge to be renamed after O'Neil

One of the great ambassadors for baseball and for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Buck O'Neil, will have the Broadway Bridge in Kansas City named after him. The dedication ceremony will take place Thursday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. CT at the Negro League Baseball Museum.
