Padres rave about Hedges' work behind plate

Sun, 23 Apr 2017 16:48:19 EDT

Through Padres catcher Austin Hedges' early struggles -- and now his recent hot streak -- he hasn't wavered behind the plate. In the long term, there are still plenty of questions about Hedges' impact at the dish. There are significantly fewer questions about his impact behind it.

Investment in Weaver paying off for Padres

Sun, 23 Apr 2017 01:39:30 EDT

The Padres spent $8.25 million on four-fifths of their starting rotation during the offseason. So far, it's been money well spent. Their four free-agent signings have turned in four very impressive starts in the past four nights. Jered Weaver's quality outing during Saturday's 6-3 loss to Miami in 11 innings was merely the latest.

Sat, 22 Apr 2017 20:39:34 EDT

When the Padres made the surprise decision to leave Cory Spangenberg off the Opening Day roster, they did so with the caveat that he needed to receive everyday at-bats and perform consistently when he got them. Spangenberg has done just that at Triple-A El Paso. He's hitting .382/.433/.491/. But do the Padres have space for him?

Small swing fix has Hedges in a good place

Sat, 22 Apr 2017 02:26:20 EDT

To the untrained eye, it's practically indiscernible, but Austin Hedges' current swing is not the same one he used when he started the season 0-for-24. A small fix has the Padres' catcher off and running, as he had four home runs in his last seven games.

Fri, 21 Apr 2017 00:25:25 EDT
