Bollywood `baadshah` Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in as the brand ambassador of West Bengal to promote the state and attract industrialists to invest here."SRK will be the face of Bengal all over the country and even abroad. He will promote the state to bring in industrialisation and spur all-round growth," CMO sources told reporters today.A positive and vibrant image of the state will be created through a series of campaigns and advertisements fronted by the 46-year-old actor, the sources said.

By focusing on the uniqueness and rich legacy of the state, services of the `Don` star will be used to build `Brand Bengal` in various sectors including industry, sports, tourism, art and culture.

"We are discussing things at a preliminary level at present. We will soon come up with a detailed plan," CM`s press adviser Rhitobrata Bhattacharya said.Even though cash-strapped, the state government has been trying hard through a series of initiatives to rope in industrial investment.

"West Bengal is my second home," Khan had proudly written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while accepting her proposal to become brand ambassador of the state recently.

Ever since Shah Rukh bought the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008, he has been taking special interest in the metropolis and never misses any opportunity to fly down here.

He is already a brand ambassador to a number of Kolkata-based companies like Emami and Concast Group.

During the inaugural function of the 17th Kolkata Film Festival here on November 10 last year, the chief minister had requested the superstar during a tete-e-tete to be the face of West Bengal, to which he had immediately agreed.

SRK had addressed Banerjee as `Didi`, who reciprocated with a smile and called him her brother.

The trend of having celebrities as brand ambassadors of states has caught up in the last few years.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has lent his support for the promotion and development of Gujarat, while Aamir Khan is promoting Indian tourism through his `Incredible India` campaign.

Newly appointed city police commissioner B G Jyothi Prakash Mirji played good Samaritan on Saturday by taking around 500 private school children and slum-dwellers to watch Royal Challengers Bangalore locking horns with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL T20 match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Private school teacher Elizabeth Robert said she was happy to witness the match along with her students. "We were intimated on Friday. Our school management contacted me and directed me to take the students to Saturday's IPL match," she said.

For Juanita Solomon, a class 9 student, the occasion was a memorable one. "I am a hardcore fan of Daniel Vettori. But to my sadness, after coming here I learnt that he flew back to his country following injury. However I will enjoy the match," she said, adding, "I am a cricket player and was selected to under 16 state team, but could not play the matches."

Speaking to the media, commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji said, "Everybody thinks it is a luxury to watch a cricket match in the stadium. Our department decided to take these underprivileged children to the stadium to witness the IPL match." According to him, 350 tickets were bought by the police department while the rest were sponsored by a private firm.

The actor is no stranger to the small screen having presented a handful of shows for the TV channel Star Plus Channel previously.

The new action packed show, Wipeout, has proved very popular in both the US and the UK amongst other countries and it’s hoped the fast and furious gameshow will be equally successful in India.

The programme follows a group of people in each episode as they battle it out on a giant assault course to finish in the fastest time. The competition also features a number of physical challenges where the contestants and pitted against each other. The winner receives a cash prize.Filming for the Indian version of Wipeout is due to take place in Argentina on the same assault course which is used every other country’s version of the reality show. The programme will be aired on NDTV Imagine, with Shah Rukh Khan tipped to present the new series.

actress Kareena Kapoor, who was approached by a TV channel to star in her very own show on the small screen titled ‘Main Kareena Kapoor Banna Chahti Hoon’, has declined the offer citing previous work commitments.

Reportedly, to get Bebo’s nod, channel producers offered her a very lucrative deal, but the actress firmly yet politely declined the offer.

"Honestly, between films and endorsements, there is absolutely no time for television,” revealed busy bee Bebo in an interview.

"I will consider television perhaps after a year-and-a-half or two. I have been offered a television show in the past, too. But I haven’t bitten the bait because my film career is rocking."

If she had accepted the show, she was required to travel nationwide to meet Bollywood aspirants’ from the various parts of India.

Hrithik and Monikangana play husband and wife in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Guzaarish. The movie being a very intense love story, Sanjay wanted Monikangana and Hrithik to spend time to gel before shooting the lovemaking scenes in Goa.

Suzanne now makes it a point to be always present on after hearing about the lovemaking scene which has made Monikangana uncomfortable.
