Poisoning of Kim caused paralysis, quick death

Malaysia's health minister said Sunday that the dose of nerve agent given to North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un's exiled half brother was so high that it killed him within 20 minutes and caused "very serious paralysis."

Convicted SDPD cop killer Cecena gets parole

The man convicted of killing San Diego Police officer Archie Buggs has been granted parole once again. Jesus Cecena, who was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for shooting Officer Archie Buggs four times during a November 1978 vehicle stop, was granted parole suitability Thursday.

Suspect charged in 1987 Valencia Park slaying

Authorities Thursday announced an arrest in connection with the sex-assault slaying of a 15-year-old boy whose nude and mutilated body was found dumped in a culvert near his Valencia Park home three decades ago.

Russell Taylor, 56, was serving a 25-year sentence in San Quentin State Prison for a narcotics conviction when he was booked in February 2017 on suspicion of murdering Dewan Emerson of San Diego, according to police.

A transit security officer was taken to the hospital after being dragged by a taxicab near Seaport Village Wednesday afternoon.

A Metropolitan Transit System officer responded to the scene of a hit-and-run involving a taxicab at Kettner Boulevard and West Harbor Drive shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to San Diego Harbor Police. As the officer asked for the driver's license, the cab took off and dragged the officer a short distance while his arm was still inside the vehicle. The cab - and it's driver - was found shortly after and towed.

A group hoping to bring Major League Soccer to San Diego unveiled its site plan to redevelop the Qualcomm Stadium land.

Plans to revitalize the Qualcomm Stadium site into a state-of-the-art, joint-use stadium will be presented today. Michael Stone and Nick Stone, of FS Investors, and Steve Altman, of AJL Investments, presented their concept to transform Mission Valley's aging stadium into a new facility to house a potential Major League Soccer team. The stadium could also serve as a home for San Diego State University sports.
