Mexican restaurant proposed for Seventh St.

On Monday, April 17 an application to the village’s Zoning Board of Appeals for the former Feldis’ Florist location at 160 Seventh Street aimed at converting the store into a Mexican restaurant, as the lineup of what new Mayor Brian Daughney once called Garden City’s “restaurant row” continues to evolve.

It was quite a celebration at the New York Sports Club last Thursday afternoon as Garden City resident, Elizabeth Smith, or “Nan” as they call her, celebrated her 103rd birthday with a Silver Sneakers party. The event was part of Silver Sneakers workout birthday party program and came complete with a big cake and plenty of dancing.

Help GCHS students support pediatric cancer patients

Students at Garden City High School have been anxiously anticipating the Charlie’s Champions and Miracle Club’s second annual Color Blast since last year’s phenomenal success. The event will be held on May 25th on the high school fields. Last year, more than 200 students gathered together to raise money for the Winthrop University Hospital’s Cancer Center for Kids.

John Ellis Kordes presented a program in February explaining why Garden City was called “The Cradle of Aviation”. Air facilities at Mitchel Field Air Force Base and Roosevelt Field were the main contributors to the reputation along with other airfields on the Hempstead Plains.

Hit and run: On April 12th, after an investigation, Garden City Police arrested a 50 year old Roosevelt man, for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident. According to police, the man struck a parked vehicle while driving, and then left the scene of the accident without stopping.

Winning streak reaches seven

The GC 17 Varsity Boys lacrosse team had another strong week by increasing their win streak to 7 games and improved their record to 7-1. On a beautiful sunny spring break day, the Trojans traveled south to take on the Marines of Long Beach High. With the waves crashing in the background, the Trojans once again crashed an opponent’s hope for an upset.
