First quarter difficult for Ikonics

Duluth-based IKONICS Corporation on Thursday said first quarter sales fell by 10 percent and earnings declined from a loss of 10 cents per diluted share in 2016 to a loss of 19 cents per diluted share in 2017. "While our first quarter is usually our weakest, 2017 was unusually difficult.

Nikon Corp. says it has taken legal action in the Netherlands, Germany and Japan over use of its semiconductor making technology by ASML Holding N.V. and Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH. Nikon said in a statement issued Monday that it was seeking to stop ASML and its supplier Zeiss from using its patented technology without Nikon's permission in lithography systems used to make computer chips.
