$8 from Amazon sounds a lot like those counterfeit copies from China I have been hearing about. And 7 Wonders has been named as one that's easy to reproduce since it's just cards, and has been seen in the wild. That seems too cheap to be real. But I can't speak from experience.

Also, is space an issue? I just can't see owning this many games (let alone unplalyed ones) just solely to space issues. If space is an issue, the main thing is to slow down the input and learn to let go of those unplayed games.

My game playing was off last year, I'm pretty close now to playing more games this year so far than all of last year.

Space, fortunately, is not an issue. I do think about doing another culling early next year, but I want to conquer this list and play them out.

If it's already banned, then it's probably too late, but my advice when playing with folks who don't like 'mean' games is to play this one in teams. Granted, this only works with an even number of player, but play wives vs. husbands or whatever. Just add up everyone's points at the end for the team total.

My experience has been that, for whatever reason, even people who don't like mean games are ok with this one when played in teams.

So, unless you really don't want to have to remove the shrink wrap and sleeve it, we should at least pull this one out for a game or two.

Totally agree. A large part of the charm of City of Kings is that it decides to diverge in some key areas. I was a bit surprised I enjoyed the Euro systems as much as I did, as I've spent multiple plays specializing in increasing my worker effectiveness and taking on that role in the party.

This play well solo?

It does. You need to play two characters but all that entails is managing two player boards and their different strategic path of specialization (healer/tank/DPS). It's not too fussy at all in that regard and I've enjoyed it solo.

Playing with others is identical from a system perspective, but it of course is framed around discussing which roles we want each character to play, how we're going to spend upgrades earned from XP, and what tactical decisions we need to make. There's a lot of discussion around stuff like, "Ok, I'll go here within two range of that nasty enemy, Ben if you just get within range to heal me while Aaron moves closer and tanks, we should be able to finish him off in two rounds."

The night was sultry.

I knew she was trouble the minute she walked through my office door. Heat lightning flashed in the distance as she sauntered up to my desk. "You Spade?," she asked.

"That's me. What can I do you for?," I answered.

Now it was her eyes that flashed. "I am not that kind of woman!," she said through gritted teeth and began to turn back toward the door.

"Hey, I didn't mean it that way," I said. Normally I would have let her go, but I needed rent money, and soon. "I meant what can I do for you?"

"My father's been kidnapped and I need you to find him," she said and I thought I saw a tear in her eye before she blinked it away. "Here's the kidnapper's note."

She tossed the note my way, but before I could read it, she said, "They say they'll tell me where he is if I can bowl over 120 at Sam's Lanes. I can't bowl anymore, not since that day..." She trailed off.

"So you need me to bowl a game for you at Sam's? No problem. I used to be a pretty good bowler back in the day. 120 should be a picnic," I explained.

Speaking of bad dice. A couple friends and I were playing a game back in the late 70's in the basement. One friend was already a 6 foot 200 lb monster at the tender age of 15 and about one brick shy of becoming a serial killer, IMHO. Well he was on a streak of rolling ones and I guess he lost about a dozenor more battles in a row. I could see the veins beginning to show and was already contemplating a quick escape.

Finally he snapped and grabbed the hapless six-sider. He rushed into the next room, grabbed a hammer and placed the die on the floor.
He delivered a crushing blow, the die shot off into a pile of junk in the corner, surprisingly still in one piece.

My friend moved from that house many years ago, but if you go down into the basement and look at the ground carefully, you will see the perfect imprint of a six sided die about 1/16 inches deep, in the concrete.

Me as well ... pickup this up from Cardhaus on a sale for $10 ... thought, "Why not?" I'd be willing to play with others, but solo seems more likely.

I have thought of the question too.

The story of building a little thing is a big hook for me. I know other games do this better, but the epic feel of twelve sessions makes me eager to play. Antiquity has an epic feel, but a single game lasts too long, but give me twelve small chunks and I am pleased. If anything the games are too short.

It's much cheaper than the geekmarket, ebay, or any other seller I can find. I feel it was fair. I can't justify selling it for 60 like everyone else seems to be.
