Awesome. I even found your entry in the ITHF World Ranking!

I don't know if you were aware there is something like that :p

As it looks, you stopped playing when I started (around 2003). Much has changed since then. (I stopped playing regularly in 2011 or so.) Nowadays these guys are cracking. Young kids from Russia, Latvia and Finland demolishing the "old Swedes". (Switzerland and Germany obtain their amateur status, as far as I know.)

That one can't easily send out trade requests from the pending results is intended and good. However, there are a few things with it that I'd definitely call bugs and the pending results as is a quick and dirty hack, which I guess is what Sharon is talking about or both of you, which are described in Pending Results Summary: [simple format] / [table format] / [table no desc] links not working. JeffyJeff forgot to make the pending parameter persistent and that's definitely a problem when e.g. checking for arbitrage.

That *could* be deliberate, of course to emphasise the ... err .... temporary nature of the results. Or maybe not, there's a thread in the OLWLG Guild about it, however, one assumes it's available for a reason. Full functionality comes back when the finished results are uploaded/overwritten, afaik.

In contrast to Concordia, this is multiplayer solitaire: you can play adequately without paying much attention to your opponents. It is light and Feld-like in its dice selection and allocation mechanism and point salad (choice of point scoring avenues that don't relate to one another). To me it is more thematically integrated than some of his others like Trajan (building an estate versus ruling the Roman Empire by playing mancala?). CoB is somewhat fun.

Base set, preferably both as that gives you more heroes, is fine for solo. I am playing with two heroes and it seems the right balance between wanting more choices and keeping the admin burden low.

The one add on I would say is a must is Shadows of Brimstone: Frontier Town Expansion as it introduces a whole new dimension to between-mission town visits.

I think you get more bang for the buck with the enemy/mission pack expansions. They have gotten more interesting over time. E,g., I like what you get with Shadows of Brimstone: Lost Army Mission Pack, plus it stays within the theme of the American Southwest. Shadows of Brimstone: Black Fang Tribe Mission Pack also fits this bill. When you start getting into alien ships, the uniqueness of the western setting starts to slip away.

I just can't wrap my head around this game. I was talking with [user=pusherman42] about HF and Nextwar: Korea one time. He said HF is infinitely easier than NW:K. I can solo NW but can't figure out HF. I don't know.

As my hobby tastes evolve, I find it harder and harder to get excited about games, at least relative to the heady days of 5-10 years ago when everything was so new and fresh. Some burnout from engaging in the hobby too much perhaps, some from the drek that is foisted upon me by friends who still must purchase new games constantly.

But I've come to realize I especially love complex card games, and I must say I'm actually really jazzed for this game. I've never been so excited for a KS game and actually followed the updates like I am for this one. In fact, I'm rather lukewarm about having KS'd The 7th Continent and don't care when they send updates about it being delayed.

Well as to solo, if you're playing 4 characters the workload is high since they all have lots of abilities to remember. 2 is easier but the game is a bit harder. The role playing experience isn't bad in the game. You will get the experience where you are trying to get IN to the mine and you keep missing darkness rolls and get more and more and more enemies till finally you just lose ... In the first room of the game. And sometimes you can go all the way through the game and win easily. There is no real control of the threat. It's still a fun game.

Yeah buy the base games. The other worlds are cool, but as I said in my previous points you don't learn that much about it. It's really just terrain tiles with little consequence and new enemies (and the later enemies will be more powerful if you want that).

Yeah, I don't know. People say it's just supposed to be very tactical, and that's ok I guess (though I still wouldn't like it) but there are enough long term goals you can make for yourself that it feels really weird. For example, you can get a powerful combo of card effects from the personalities that needs a particular color of worker to get going, and then you can just never see that color card to get the worker all game and then all of your effort was wasted.

I found the multi use cards to be quite lacking, the actions are extremely bland and card powers range from great to almost useless. One of my least favorite Feld's too. Trajan and CoB are my favorites.
This just goes to show that a game either works for you or it doesn't. I love CoB and Trajan, my first and third favorite Felds, AND I also love Bruges which is my second favorite. I wrestle with thinking it might just be my favorite every time we play it.

:meeple: Keep playing (what you like)...

I have a slightly contrary view and say Lanterns is better with 2 than more. You can control what your opponent gets so it is a more strategic, or at least more tactical, game. I've played all player counts and the chaos increases as the count rises. Plus I'm not convinced going last, or second last, in a 4-player game isn't a huge advantage. Not a fan at higher counts.

Must be personal preference. Parker used it but Sharon doesn't so it just depends on who's running it I guess.

Either they went missing completely or arrived smashed/broken. We now only swap gifts in person.I'd lay this squarely at the feet of La Poste. I don't know how they train people but I always imagine somebody the likes of Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Regardless of the country they send to, or things that are sent to France, something arrives broken or torn. They even manage to eff things up within France.domus_ludorum wrote:- There was probably a higher percentage of 'seasoned' traders taking part and they know the 'value' of things and are looking for good trades.- Item restriction prevented a spread of values in the items entered per user which inhibited trades for certain value items. Speaking only for myself of course...I felt I had high, middle and low valued items entered. Despite this not being a LO trade, because my want list was looking so pitiful I lowered the values of my items and put them up against items that I wouldn't normally trade them for (in some cases less than half the 'value'). However, I decided to experiment further with a more restrictive want list and only put in for things I really wanted plus a couple of experiments (where my usual MT want list has only about 10% desperate wants and 90% experiments). This would have excluded me from potential loops. Also, when trying to match up items for trade I found that my middle valued games were not high enough and my low valued items were too high for what I wanted so it was difficult to find parity. I actually settled quite a bit so Who Wanted Mine will be a lot less useful to me than people with more equal/realistic matches. In general I get the impression (too lazy to look up the facts at present) that the distribution of trades in the smaller trades is less even. I feel like there are 'pockets'...less individuals get trades and when they do they get multiple trades...rather than more people getting trades with one each...or something like that IYKWIM.Congrats to the happy traders! Yes please do! I am still haunted by the fantastically evocative yet simple graphic design you had going on here. Most space exploration games feature desert planets of rock and dust, but yours abounds with life, which really sets it apart and gives it an unexpected feeling of loneliness. Tis wonderful stuff and I'd love to see you finish it!

I would like to point out that the Mayday standard USA premium are a very tight fit and bend the card slightly. I am applying pressure to seal them, but I had a similar experience with Kemet, feel that if you want to go Premium the Chimera could be a better fit.

I tried these as I sleeved my Ticket to Ride and noted that Ethnos cards are slightly taller and wider.

The good thing is that since they fit so snugly the sleeved cards will still fit the insert (you will need to put one third of the deck on top of the token trays anyway).

Don't worry about it K, host can be as active as they like, it's enough that there is someone to host each month - no matter what you do, the people kick their shoes off and make the place their own anyway. Which is as it should be.

A few thoughts as to the lower trade percentage - I have no scientific basis for this just speculative musing -

- Due to the item limit people put 'good' stuff in and were looking for a good trade back.

- There was probably a higher percentage of 'seasoned' traders taking part and they know the 'value' of things and are looking for good trades.

- Less mistakes (i.e. wrong items added to want lists) made as there was a smaller amount of entries and because there was less inexperienced traders. I have always had a sneaking suspicion that a fair amount of trade loops are supported by mistakes that people live with.

- Item restriction prevented a spread of values in the items entered per user which inhibited trades for certain value items. Despite being in favour of limiting the main trade to something like 50 per user, to make it more manageable, I think there is room to extend the limit above 10 for this trade - 15 to 20.

- It immediately followed the main trade so a certain amount of wants had just been satisfied.

Something else you left off your list - whether due to the item restrictions or because of its proximity to the main trade, there were fewer cash offers. Less lubricant for the machine.

El Dorado is fine too. It´s an deckbuilder with an race element. Knizia created a game which uses a comon mechanic - deckbuilding, but the race aspect makes it feel fresh and new again. I´m waiting for my copy of this to arrive. Sadly I ordered it together with hostage negotiator, which will arrive in Septembe, so I have to wait :P
