Why are CDGs so popular among wargamers? Because wargamers do not like freedom of choice. That's why at least some are attracted to the military, in the first place.

Seriously, when you compare the complexity of wargames' rulesets to the amount of non-obvious game-deciding decisions to be made, most wargames are lacking compared to classic abstracts (which are the origin of modern day wargames - Chess>Hellwig>Opiz>Reiswitz etc.) and even modern euros. Of course, in this respect wargames seem to successfully reflect the realities of war which are often described as endless boredom with few burst of pure intensity.

If you use the nicer, premium sleeves, the cards will not fit into their dedicated spaces in the insert. This may be a problem if there's going to be an expansion down the line.

A sweet way to die :meeple:

And by that, you can't mean the whipped cream analogy, cuz there ain't no way I will play a Feld more than once... In fact, sometimes I think I should just play the first two turns of every Feld, since that's basically the whole game exposed for the fraudulent mess of victory points that it is.

The trouble I have with Feld (and that goes for all so-called heavy Euros) is the downtime they generate. The games itself are fine - I think that BuBu or Bora Bora are truly good games, although I'm not really willing to wait until everybody has thought his turn thoroughly through (meaning while the others take their turn, I can go and take a leak, fill my glass with another drink, read the news on my smart and probably sell and buy a few shares on the stock market ...).

I played Yokohama with my train gamers group, and 18xx suffers from the same problem as Feld games: downtime. Although, having disciplined gamers, everybody thinks what he will do on his turn while the others take their turns, thus reducing downtime to an absolute minimum, making it very worthwhile for me to play (in Yokohama, this works better than in most Feld games I know). And we played Yoko really fast and it was an enjoyable experience for all of us. My love for Yoko does not go so far that I'd buy it, but I would play it again - with a non-AP-prone group of course.

I love cats, they're such special creatures. They're still wild at heart and yet when they find that one individual in their "Pride" (family) they become more than just a pet and friend.

My cat Bandit (if you didn't pay attention to her she'd run up behind you and whack you on the ankle and then run off - hence Bandit)died of the same kind of kidney disease. It was a terrible thing to watch. She too was just past 19. She was a beautiful chocolate tip Siamese. I still think of her. I had a stone made to cover her in the back yard. And I wrapped her in her favorite fur coat remnant. Somehow I had obtained an old fur coat, which she promptly commandeered. It became her favorite cover and sleeping blanket. Now she's wrapped in it forever. I hope it comforts her.

PLAY 2: I met up with Jon, Eisen, and Wil today to play a few games. I'd been talking to Jon about Brass since I knew he really liked it and the kickstarter for the new version is live, and we worked out a date to play. He also asked about Ginkgopolis since he's never played so after Brass and Yokohama, we busted this out. After trying the expansion, I went back to just the base game and really think I enjoy this more. It was an enjoyable game overall, although we all discussed and agreed that we'd like to try the variant to keep 1 card when passing to allow for more planning. I didn't do well and while Jon, Wil, and I were fairly close in points (50, 51, 56) Eisen rocked us up the 70's or something. I really like the actions in this game associated with building the city, but the overall flow of passing cards, adding cards to the deck and shuffling frequently, and the weird end-game trigger all make it a bit clunkier than ideal, but ultimately it does still deliver a fun experience. Now that I've given up on trying to accept the expansion, I'm looking forward to more plays with the "keep a card" variant, which may just be my default from now on.

your bid was at 1200 midnight EST

It was after the End time and there wasn't another bid in the 30 minutes prior to the end time of the auction. Therefore according to the rules none of the bids after 11:59 CST or 12:59 EST should count.

I guess it will be up to the seller.

"Ending

-- April 28th, 2017 at 11:59pm central time (I believe this is also BGG time).
-- A bid within the last 30 mins will extend the auction by 30 mins. And so on until there are no more bids."

Jon and I finished the game tonight when I conceded on turn 14. I reached the point where it was pointless to continue. I did manage a couple of successful cavalry charges near Materne Pond. I seriously damaged the Cameron Highlanders and routed a stack of skirmishers. Still, not as much as I hoped for.

After Jon left I started a new game trying something different. I finished turn 4 and will continue tomorrow.

it just felt like an addon that didn't addfun.

I'm sure this is a great game but I have never wanted to play it because I did not enjoy anything about living with the real threat and terror of nuclear destruction hanging over our heads during the cold war and I have no desire to relive it in any shape or form. As for the Cuban Missile Crisis, which may have been the closest we ever got to a nuclear war, I remember seeing President Kennedy addressing the nation on TV regarding the missiles in Cuba and I remember quite vividly that I thought he looked very frightened during that address and that quite unnerved me. Just for the record I have no problem with anyone else enjoying either game.

Exacty how I feel about WWII games.

This seems like a good time to once again welcome any newcomers to the raffles, and to mention for anyone who may be interested that Jiffy has his own microbadge (perhaps the best cat microbadge on BGG!) through the gracious skills of Schwartzkopf.

What clips are you using to hold your character cards vertical like that? The FFG ones I have are too big (meant for cardboard).

Curious, do you like the Butcher books too? I'm currently like 3 or 4 books in to the series and I can't tell if I like them.

It's the main reason I didn't back the KS, also not a fan of the art. But the game has been getting pretty good reviews.
