Honshu annoyed me. The patching of your individual map is quite a fun little puzzle, but I found so little control of what I (or anyone else) ended up with in the bidding phase that I'd almost rather it just be a Take It Easy-style true multiplayer solitaire.

Oh for shame - I've barely played any of the top 25 in that list.

I've only played the following online: Catan, Carcassone, Splendor

I've never played the following:
7 Wonders, Small World, King of Tokyo, TTR: Europe, Race for the Galaxy, Dixit, Codenames, Twilight Struggle, Stone Age, and Arkahm Horror.

Twilight Struggle was one of the first three games that I purchased, but it was cast aside for Netrunner. How rude of me!

As for the rest of the games, I skipped most "gateway" games. In fact, I barely played many euros before discovering my passion in gaming: 18xx. I would gladly play all of them now just to find out what they were about.

The thing that strikes me on close examination of the map is that the game should be called 'Touring England, Wales and Cornwall.'

You might have seen by now that they did decide to go ahead and publish the Golem version. Apparently it's not for general release - only available at conventions and from the Plan B website - and they can't guarantee they will make future versions to be compatible with the series. The Century games are all meant to facilitate interplay you see...

So if you just wanted a one off (probably), then maybe they'll be at Essen :)

I guess I'm just such a fan of the movies (and the books), that I didn't dislike it as much as you, but I can't really disagree with any of your thoughts on it either.

Point taken. See, when I first saw the first movie (which was no sooner that 2 years ago), I fell instantly for the story, and the mystery coming with that ship. Where were they headed? Who were they? And? And for me the true beauty of that movie was that you didn't know anything, but that outside there's something you should fear. No explanations given, despite the many questions. No nothing, just deep, irrational fear, and the feeling of being hunted.

Prometheus shifted the paradygm in the sense that in its first part seemed to care about showing more of the universe, and when the sequel was announced, and the original idea behind that movie was to follow further David and Elisabeth as they try to give answer to some of the main onthological questions we might have, I was kinda psyched (despite not sharing the creationalist point of view of the movies) because I felt it was a very ambitious project, that fell in line with some of Scott's previous work (see the final reflections in Blade Runner), and I was definitely interested in it.

Anyway, let's see what comes with the coming third chapter, and then possibly let's hope this unfreezes the already announced sequel to Aliens with Sigourney Weaver returning to play Ripley

Frankly another depressing success.

Is it depressing for an abstract game lover like the success of a family-friendly or average Euro can be for a hardcore gamer who can't or don't want to appreciate its crowd-pleasing values? I mean it in the way Spiel des Jahres successes make hardcore gamers angry or how the success of a Lords of Waterdeep made lovers of Caylus-like games roll their eyes.

Or is it depressing because it's all about the hype with no real fun included in the box?

Or is it depressing because it is sure to turn people off from abstracts because of its weaknesses?

I'm really curious.

It's like a timer that I can't tell how quickly is moving, despite me deciding (usually) how many cards to draw. It occasionally veered into feeling like punishment for doing cool stuff, but I get WHY it's that way, so not a big deal as of now.

The answer to how many cards is too many to draw:
[o]Any. Seriously. You can only keep 1 card each action, drawing more cards is (so far after ~15 hours) only useful for
hunting and the occasional push your luck event
Even if you have space in your hand, your usually better off doing an action for free if you can.[/o]

There's also a chart in the rulebook on page 13 that tells you % of success based on initial action deck and not counting 7s, if you want to play the odds when you need to get a success.

(The fact that I do nothing but devour rulebooks for these things as bedtime reading lately has helped immensely in getting some of these to the table.) Really pleased with Comancheria, not entirely down on Apocrypha (now THERE'S faint praise), and 7th Continent is looking quite promising. I definitely want a couple more sessions with it to decide, but so far it's looking like one of those... how do I put this in the nerdiest way possible? It's Bat Shark-Repellent.There's a scene in the 1966 Batman movie (still the best Batman movie, don't believe otherwise) where this happens:Well, of course Batman has a canister of Bat Shark-Repellent in his utility belt.
