On their website they call it heavy plastic. It would have been nice if it came with the wood or glass stones. The box with the board and stones weighs just over 6 lbs.

Enjoyed playing it, but never got past the first few turns. Generally the game was decided by then anyway give or take a few resilient pockets holding up the Russian tank units on a key road. The set up was fun if you were the Russians, watching the German player look at the set up rules just to check you really did have that many units. I might even dig it out of the storage boxes.

This is the decision really, do you risk not trading to go for the one you want, or make a bigger list to at least get something you want, even if it's not as high on your list? There's no right answer, it just depends on your preference.

Kent makes a good point, as long as you only put stuff on your list that you will be happy with, then you won't be disappointed. Also realizing that we can't all get the holy grail game.

New comment on Item for Geeklist "Baker's Boards: Kickstarters!!"

We plan on it but at this point there is no way we can guarantee a review before the Kickstarter is done and anyway I think it can be weird if someone is reviewing a prototype opposed to the final version. I think part of Zoneplex is the world and having a complete presentation. But we will definitely give the Geek community copies for review! :D

I think ideally it is good to have as many review copies as possible sent out at the same time so the game isn't swayed by just one or two opinions because of the limitation of 2 prototypes. That way there are many reviews from many different type of gamers.

I did contemplate a lot about this recently actually... Interestingly for the iPad game world there is no such expectation for iPad Kickstarters, for example Thunderbeam mostly focused on inspirations and had what they intended to create but hand't yet: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wileywiggins/thunderbeam...

I did back this because it seems great! But interesting to see that the worlds are split as far as the Board Game Community desiring an external review pre or during Kickstarter campaigns and iPad Gamers just backing things without a review, etc... Maybe it's because a board-game is a physical product that costs more or it's just iPad hype? But that being said Thunderbeam got a lot of high valued backers!

Anyway, the PDF seems about done, will let Backers see it first to be involved in the process with us as another pair of eyes before we make it public for everyone along with the video!

The question is should I shave or keep my beard?!!?

I'd throw in At the Gates of Loyang as high raters for us both too...but you have 8 plays of Walnut Grove which I'm really itching to play. However you have 2 Ora et Labora as well...given our affinity to Gric and Loyang match where do you see this one falling in comparison?

My initial reaction to Ora was tainted by the components, including a frustrating evening with a knife cutting out the chits. It's a lot like Le Havre, which I'm only luke warm on, and a bit like Farmers of the Moor, which I didn't care for. I didn't have the same "zing" of love that I had for Agricola. I do appreciate there's a lot of game there, but its 2-hour play time gives it tough competition with things I really love, like Roads & Boats. I think the resource wheel is snazzy, it both tracks resources and time. I see its academic merits, but it doesn't turn me on.

My girlfriend is a Gric fiend and can not get enough of the game so literally we left it on the table for about 4 months never packing it up.

LOL... this was us. We have no pets and no kids, so we can leave a game out on the table.

It's bad enough that these teachers are teaching crappy laborious methods for solving basic algebra problems, but when they start using their position of power to force their ideologies - even in "harmless fun" - well, it gets a little scary.Indeed, I'm rather tempted to write and complain from way over *here*!I will further note that the US has a weird relationship with teachers. When people find out I used to teach, they assume it was university. When I correct them, they often seem unimpressed. I usually mention how good the school was, but sometimes I worry that I'm trying to correct some negative assumption that has just been made.I consider my time teaching one of the most valuable experiences of my life, well worth the extra year+ that I spent in Tucson (and not doing other things like software engineering...) as a result. I believe every single person with a higher-education degree should spend a year or two as a teacher, more if they enjoy it.It is so strange that, in the US, teachers are considered with so little respect. I wonder if there is any other culture with treats them with such contempt.I actually got to see this first-hand in some amusing ways. I was somehow a "popular" teacher at my school with the students (I think because I corrected stereotypes about what someone who loves science and is a huge geek can be, engaging rather than boring them). I had several new students come in over the course of the year, and invariably I would get on the bad side of one or two of the students. In would come the parent, accusing me of picking on their student, I hated their student, etc. We would resolve the issue, they would glare at me distrustfully, and about a month later, they would instead be piling onto the unfortunate less-popular teacher(s). I would later see the same parent in the hallway, and I was now their child's savior. The first assumption is to accuse the teacher of wrongdoing - it is not the child at fault, but rather the teacher. If popular opinion of said teacher is not somewhat negative, push the faults onto the unpopular teachers instead. Eventually there will be several teachers who will take the brunt of the blame for your child's failures.Inevitably, the foothold one may climb upon to launch these blames will be the example one can cite where the teacher did something to push an opinion onto the class, no matter how innocuous it may have seemed at the time. The complaints won't do anything in the long-term, and the teacher will not associate their relatively minor foible with the larger problem that becomes associated with them.I recently had a coworker ask me how to approach a teacher that was obviously picking upon her student. I advised her to treat the situation as though neither party were at fault, and to figure out how to resolve the conflict. She later triumphantly told me that the teacher had not picked upon her student for a whi[...]

Superb episode!

Though one thing you could have talked about Bang!: you can get eliminated really fast and just be sitting there, watching the others actually playing for more time than one would care to wait, and with only two players left, after four, five people were eliminated, the game can still go on for a good 15 to 20 minutes of a lot of "dodging" and cycling cards in the hopes of that one in particular.

It happened to me and I see it happen some other times and, by now, I avoid Bang! as much as I can. I much prefer play Shadow Hunters for a game with a hidden role experience.

But that is just my opinion. And I really liked yours regarding K2 and Fortune and Glory.

Finally, I know you're british and you like to take your time to do good TV. Nice, nice. BBC style. But... how about a show, I don't know, every 20 days? Maybe 15... :D

The game pretends to too much Quality and Significance to allow for such nonsense. If it pretended it was trivial, I could live with it: but there are too many folk touting its magnificence to let it off that easily.)

What's odd is that I'm happy to concede all of that, and yet I still think E&T is the bee's knees. Perhaps I don't pick up on the sense of self importance that you do. It's not Chess (which is good because I hate Chess). But it does satisfy two of my most fundamental gaming drives like no game other than Poker. The first is the "I wonder what will happen if I do this?" drive: I learn best by doing (repeatedly), and E&T's cascading effects are so clear and tangible to me that nearly every tile lay carries the wonder of pushing that first domino in some crazy Rube Goldberg machine. The second is the gambling drive: there is no sensation I hate worse than knowing you are beat at a Eurogame and having to suffer through the rest of the game; E&T seems to always keep me within a Hail Mary play no matter how poorly I am otherwise doing. The ability to say, "F*ck it, I've got to try something," right up until tha last tile is pulled keeps me excited and invested from start to finish.

Things are looking bad for our hero...

The Witch connects with her knife, leaving a bad gash in your arm.

You LOSE 1 HP !

You retaliate with your own attack, stabbing her with your knife, but she keeps coming at you !

Bog Witch needs 11 or higher for success

Mulligans previously rolled 1d20 = 2 (Witch Knife)

Edit: Low Roll Penalty - The Witch must be getting worn down... she misses her attack badly and is prone to your counter attack. ADD +1 to your attack roll and SUBTRACT -1 on your kill check.

I don't play it often, but every time it hits the table, we end the game by saying, "Why don't we play this more?"

For me it has a nice mix of stock market prediction, spatial planning, and a light dose of gambling. It's essential to watch your opponents, as they can be wrapping the game up faster than you are ready for. Overall it's just a clever game that is unique in the gaming universe, I think.

Dungeon petz is cute, but I felt it was lacking something...not sure what.

I think flash point is the second best coop behind ghost stories (third if you include bsg as a coop).

As stated above, flashpoint shines in groups, and for me, games are about socializing, so I prefer games that amplify that. Flash point does that amazingly. Plus it is an awesome theme.
