People say that children are our future

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 11:01:23 +0100

Saturday 22nd October.  That's the day I became completely 100% convinced that the club is now on a very stable footing playing wise, and has the structure in place to go forward, gain promotion, and continue building towards being a competitive Premiership side.

Edinburgh v Harlequins: Down But Not Out

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 10:41:55 +0100

Not much time on the long drive north to think about the match due to the crappy road conditions but in the cold light of day on match day morning couldn`t help but think that this was definitely a game there for the taking.

Test in the West

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 10:10:37 +0100

Exeter this Sunday could pose the most significant test of Bath' Premiership season to date. Of course this is a West Country derby, now more anticipated by many than the more traditional and bitter rivalry with Gloucester. It may also prove a defining weekend for Premiership fortunes in the lead up to Christmas. Two league positions and 7 points separate the clubs and Bath will want to preserve their top 4 status.  Leicester look likely losers on Saturday at Allianz Park, as do Newcastle at Wasps. An away win for Bath would therefore open up a comfortable gap between the leading 3 teams and chasing pack before the Autumn International window. It is also important for Bath to get a first win of the season against a title contender: most of the other victories have been over lowly or mid table teams. Add in the small matter of George Ford’s future. Whatever the truth in recent rumours, the outcome is unlikely to be clear in the next few weeks. A good win at Sandy Park would be a real boost for morale and an indicator of squad solidarity in the face of distraction. So, what can we expect?

View from the south stand: Sale 5 Toulon 15

Tue, 25 Oct 2016 22:22:09 +0100

Well, we knew we were unlikely to progress from this group from the day they were drawn. A disappointing performance in Llanelli to kick off proceedings didn't help, and now we had to entertain the Galacticos of Toulon, smarting from defeat at home to Saracens. Oh, dear...

Ox Takes The Biscuits Player Ratings v Royals

Tue, 25 Oct 2016 22:05:38 +0100

Oxlade-Chamberlain capitalised on a Reading mistake to score towards the end of the first half, and then scored again via a deflection in the second half. It was a routine victory in the end, but a pretty dire game at times, particularly the first 20 - 25 minutes of the second half.

Much Improved DRS To Be Tested In India v. England Series

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 20:18:22 +0100

After almost all the concerns that India had expressed about the DRS system in the past were satisfactorily addressed by the ICC, the BCCI is now ready to give the NEW and IMPROVED DRS system a try.  India's stand against DRS was principled and not arbitrary as some in the Western media have alleged.  It was based on the now famous Dhoni quote about "adultration of human decision making and technology".

Mexican GP:Williams Martini Grand Prix Preview

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 14:09:59 +0100

Just one week after the United States GP the Williams Martini team will move to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit for the 2016 Mexico Grand Prix. The Mexican race has seen the Williams team secure some success with a podium finish in 2015. Both team drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa have enjoyed this race with its huge crowds. Again it is a race where the Williams team have to secure a points scoring finish in their championship fight.

United States GP: Massa 7th for Williams Martini

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 08:58:16 +0100

The results of the 2016 United States GP would see only a single Williams Martini driver in the points with Felipe Massa finishing 7th. But his race was hindered by an incident with Alonso seeing him fail to achive the result that he felt was possible with the car. But comparing this to his team-mate Valtteri Bottas Felipes race was far better for Valtteri would suffer a puncture at the first corner his car having made contact with another. Valtteri would be forced to pit and he would run at the rear all race. At least Williams was able to close the gap to Force India.

United States GP: Top ten qualifying for Williams Martini

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 20:23:19 +0100

Qualifying for the 2016 United States GP would see both Williams Martini drivers finish in the top ten. Both Valtteri and Felipe Massa would make it into the final period and would choose to do single runs in the final period. Valtteri would finish in 8th and Felipe 9th. This was a very encouraging result for the team as they continue to their fight with Force India with both drivers looking at securing points.

United States GP: Little improvement for Williams in FP3

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 17:34:45 +0100

The final practice session for the 2016 United States GP would see Williams Martini drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa finish in 8th and 13th. After their Friday practice results the team was hoping to turn things around but they are still lacking pace with little improvement from both drivers. At least Valtteri was able to get into the top ten but based on their form qualifying is again going to be a difficult time for the Williams team.

United States GP: Williams Martini lacks pace in FP2

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 06:33:57 +0100

The second Friday practice session for the 2016 United States GP would see both Williams drivers drop down the times finishing outside the top ten. Valtteri Bottas would finish in 14th while team-mate Felipe Massa was in 16th. The team would come away happy with the session having worked on their programme. But even though it was a straight forward session the team still felt that there was a lot of work to do overnight if they are to improve.

United States GP: Bottas 6th for Williams Martini in FP1

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 17:56:41 +0100

In what was an uneventful day for the Williams Martini team the opening Friday practice session for the 2016 United States GP would see the Williams drivers finish in 6th and 11th. Valtteri Bottas would finish ahead of Felipe Massa in what was a typical Friday with both drivers working through their schedule finishing with a longer run on the soft tyre. In the early part of the session Valtteri had run with the halo, painted white to match the colour of the Williams car.

Bresnan's Heroics In Vain

Sat, 01 Oct 2016 11:06:20 +0100

In spite of a brilliant batting performance from Tim Bresnan, ably assisted by important cameos from Hodd and Rafiq, Yorkshire's attempt to achieve a rare hat trick of County Championships was foiled on the final hour of the season by our nemesis Toby Roland-Jones who rounded off the season by taking a hat trick of Tyke wickets. Young Roland-Jones, a far more potent bowler than the hyped Finn, finished off the drama by bowling both Hodd and Sidebottom, to finish with match figures of ten wickets, at a cost of 127 runs. Nick Gubbins was also a major thorn in the Yorkshire flesh, acccumulating a priceless total of 218 runs. In fact, without the contribution of Gubbins, the hosts' first innings would have subsided, although more dropped catches from the white rose enabled Middlesex to get out of jail.
