Wed, 22 Feb 2017 16:30:10 +0000Prior to the game, I was pondering this opening paragraph (hey, it’s what we writers do, OK?) and thinking how nice it would be to start with something like “I was fully expecting to be writing about a plucky defeat, but in the event…” Well, I was fully expecting to be writing about a plucky defeat, but in the event…
Wed, 22 Feb 2017 08:08:41 +0000Sunday’s Bristol- Bath Premiership clash threatens to be “Demolition Derby” day for Bristol – and perhaps even for Bath. Bristol, having won only two Premiership ties are six points adrift of fellow strugglers Worcester, with the tougher of two daunting run ins to come. While Worcester seem to be improving, one more heavy defeat could put Bristol’s hopes of league survival through the crusher. Conceding eight tries to Leicester is hardly ideal preparation for a derby meeting with old rivals eight places higher in the table. For Bath, it is not so much aspiration as squad continuity which has been wrecked recently by yet more ill luck with injury. Just as the backrow resources were starting to look luxurious, the Rec outfit lost two hookers to fractures within forty eight hours and were forced to field a makeshift and callow backline by injuries to Tapuai, Fruean and Wilson. The game seems destined to be car crash viewing for somebody, but for whom?
Tue, 21 Feb 2017 20:58:17 +0000A famous victory that ultimately proved in vain with Bristol relegated after a dismal performance against London Irish. Even if B**h had finished the season rock bottom the chances are they would have been saved by a shocking merger of the two clubs. But here's the match report from that game: The end result of the 222nd meeting between these great West Country rivals, which if the papers are to be believed are destined to be called either the Wessex Stormers or the West Country Stormers in the very near future, was a resounding 30-20 victory for the Bristol Shoguns.

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 18:15:17 +0000Arsenal got through a mainly uneventful 5th round tie v Sutton, there were no great performances by Arsenal players, and MotM went to a Sutton player. Sutton played well, but sadly failed to score, which might have made the match more exciting than the routine affair it became. The only memorable moment was the sight of Wayne Shaw (reserve Sutton keeper) eating a pie. Apparently the FA are now investigating the incident. Enough of this idle chatter, here are the ratings:

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 13:04:04 +0000WORLD Cup winner Martin Johnson has singled out fly-half Owen Farrell as England’s trump card as Eddie Jones’ men chase back-to-back Six Nations Grand Slam titles. If selected this weekend by Jones to play against Italy at Twickenham, Farrell will win his 50th England cap; he has also already amassed over 500 international points, appeared at a World Cup in 2015 and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2013 in Australia. Farrell was selected on a six-man shortlist for World Player of the Year in the summer and despite missing out on the top gong, he has become England’s Mr Reliable; both off the kicking tee and with his creativity behind the scrum. He has been promoted to England’s vice-captaincy role and skippered the side during the last-gasp win against Wales in Cardiff following the withdrawal of skipper Dylan Hartley after just 46 minutes. Farrell, who helped Saracens win the domestic and European double in 2016, has formed a formidable midfield pairing with Leicester-bound George Ford and is now the first name on England boss Jones’ team-sheet.

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 14:34:44 +0000One more loss to Livingston this season and they get to keep us on thier mantle piece. In the first half only a spectacular strike from Sean Crighton, after Adam Brown failed once again to track his man, separated the teams. The second half however was all Livingston and Airdrie crumbled under the onslaught.Livingston second goal came five minutes after the restart when Joe Gorman scored an uncontested own goal. Next up Was Danny Mullen who fired low fromeange to beat Ferguson and then in the dying minutes Nicky Cadden scored with a header. To add insult to injury Ryan Conry was red carded for a late challenge and push.

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 19:25:05 +0000Contrary to some suggestions that India has snubbed Bangladesh by not hosting them for a Test series for over 16 years since their Test debut back in 2000, which incidentally occured versus India, the BCCI which was instrumental in getting Bangladesh Test status has been a benefactor for the Bangladesh cricket board all these years since.

Wed, 21 Dec 2016 02:16:30 +0000With Technical Chief Pat Symonds confirmed as leaving the Williams team and with continued reports that Paddy Lowe will be leaving Mercedes to join Williams, as well as the uncertainty as to whether or not Valtteri Bottas will leave the team to be replaced by Felipe Massa, it is certainly turning out to be Williams' own silly season. This is not the best of situations as the team prepares for the 2017 F1 season, a season that will see some of the biggest changes in Formula One in recent times.
Sat, 17 Dec 2016 08:47:18 +0000Recent reports have the Williams team considering to allow Valtteri Bottas to leave the team to join Mercedes in 2017. But any such move would only be considered if an experienced driver could be found to replace him. This has seen Felipe Massa come into the picture. Is any decision regarding Valtteri becoming more of a financial decision with the Williams team gettting a reduction in the cost of their Mercedes engines. If the Williams team allows Valtteri to move to Mercedes is it going to be a decision that they live to regret?
