Navy Concludes Season at NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship

Racing on the grandest stage of national competition for the second straight year, the NCAA Championship, the Navy men's cross country team recorded a 31st-place finish on Saturday. Taking on the 10k course at Louisville's E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park, the Mids kept a relatively close pack of five throughout the race as all five scoring runners finished within 70 places of each other. Jake Brophy led the team's individual effort with a time of 31:17.70, good for 167th-place.

Coming off a second-place result at last weekend's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, the Mids qualified and will run in the prestigious national event for the 12th time in program history. The action for the men at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park begins at 10:00 a.m.



Men's Cross Country Clinches NCAA Championship Bid on Friday

The Navy men's cross country team secured the program's second straight bid to the NCAA Championship with a second-place finish at Friday's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship meet. One year after finishing second in a field of 22 teams at Penn State, the Mids followed a similar script and finished second of 26 teams at Lehigh University. Racing on the 10k Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, the Mids had all five of its scorers rank in the top-30 for a combined team score of 109, six better than third-place Villanova (115) and 13 better than fourth-place Georgetown (122). Princeton was the Mid-Atlantic Regional winner with 57 team points.



Mids to Compete at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Friday

Championship Central | The Navy men’s cross country team will look to head back to the NCAA Championship meet for the second consecutive year on Friday with action at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. The race that is hosted at Lehigh’s Goodman Campus 10k Cross Country Course will see the Mids take on 26 regional foes beginning at 11:45 a.m. in hopes of securing a top-two finish.



Kevin Murray Named PL Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Late Friday, the Patriot League announce its 2017 Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League teams. Led by sophomore Kevin Murray’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition, the Navy program was well represented on the all-league with a league-high three nods. Senior Josh Hanna and sophomore Jake Brophy joined Murray was members of the eight-man Academic All-Patriot League team.

In Saturday's 2017 Patriot League Championship, the Navy men's cross country teams quest for a fifth consecutive league was nearly attained as the team went down to the line tied with Army through four runners, but a better finish by the Black Knights' fifth and final runner gave Army the slim 43-47 victory and the league crown. Navy was led by top-five results by team captain Cory Donley (Sr., Salina, Kan.) and Kevin Murray (So., Wilmington, Del.).

Racing for the second time this season at Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, the Mids will look to finish atop the standings for the fifth consecutive season. The men’s championship race begins at 11 a.m. before the women compete for league supremacy at 12 p.m.
