Mids Close Out Competition at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

Juniors Drew Daniels and Jadaen Bernstein advanced to the second day of competition at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, however, neither was able to qualify for placement rounds on Saturday as the tournament came to a close. Navy stood 26th with 17 points, one half point ahead of Cal Baptist and one piont ahead of West Virginia who each had one remaining wrestler in the competition.

Rested Mids to Compete at Prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational

After stepping away from competition for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Navy wrestling team (4-0, 0-0 EIWA) returns to action on Friday when it travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the 2016 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The Las Vegas Convention Center will serve as the host venue for the two-day tournament slated to begin Friday at 9:00 am PT / 12:00 pm ET. The CKLV Invitational is one of the top annual events that highlights some of the nation’s best wrestlers. This year’s field features 35 teams, including nine programs ranked among the top 25 in the country and another four, including Navy, who are receiving votes. Additionally, nearly 70 ranked wrestlers will be in action.

Wrestling Wins Two Class Titles & Finishes Second at 2016 Navy Classic

The Navy wrestling team had a strong showing on Saturday at its annual Navy Classic with two individuals collecting titles and the team finishing second overall. On the strength of seven wrestlers placing in the top-four, the Mids recorded a team score of 114.5. Jadaen Bernstein (Jr., Glen Gardner, N.J.) and Steban Cervantes (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif.) led Navy’s individual efforts as they won respective titles in the 174- and 197-pound weight classes.

Wrestling to Play Host to 39th Annual Navy Classic on Saturday

The Navy wrestling team will plays host to the 39th annual Navy Classic on Saturday at the Wesley Brown Field House beginning at 10:00 am. Having won the team title in 19 of the 38 years the tournament has been held, the Mids will battle 11 teams — Binghamton, Brown, Bucknell, Campbell, The Citadel, Delaware Valley, George Mason, Indiana, Johns Hopkins, Kent State and Ohio — for the 2016 Navy Classic crown.

Eight Mids Place at Harold Nichols Open, Wilding Crowned Champion

Navy junior Corey Wilding won the 149-pound title at the 2016 Harold Nichols Open Sunday, while seven of his Navy wrestling teammates also placed in what was the Mids’ first tournament appearance of the 2016-17 campaign. The victory by Wilding marked his second collegiate tournament victory and his first in a completely open event (2015 Michigan State Open Fr/So Div.).

Split Wrestling Squads To Compete at Harold Nichols Cyclone Open and Bearcat Open on Sunday

The Navy wrestling team kicked off the 2016-17 season on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall where it captured a pair of victories over Delaware Valley and Johns Hopkins in the second annual Blue-Gold Duals. The Mids capped off the day with their annual Blue-Gold Challenge Matches where the Gold squad narrowly defeated the Blue, 20-15.

Navy Wrestling Opens Season Sunday at Home

The Navy wrestling program will open its 109th season of competition this Sunday when it plays host to Delaware Valley and Johns Hopkins at Alumni Hall in Annapolis. Utilizing a pair of mats, the Mids will divide into two squads (Blue and Gold) and will face both foes at 1:00 pm and 2:45 pm. Navy will wrap up the day of action by conducting its annual Blue-Gold Challenge Matches beginning at 4:30 pm. Admission is free for Sunday’s matches.

2016-17 Basketball and Wrestling Tickets Now On Sale
