Mids Outduel Duke on the Mat

As important as victories are in a wrestling match, so, too, are points. This was never more evident than in Sunday's match between Navy (7-1) and Duke (2-5) at Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis. A 10-1 major decision by sixth-ranked heavyweight Jacob Kasper of Duke in the final bout of the afternoon knotted the team score at 17 apiece. The Mids, however, would win the tie-breaker by the third criteria, outscoring the Blue Devils, 66-60.

Mids Play Host to Duke in Nonconference Dual

Looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season, a 23-9 blemish against seventh-ranked Lehigh last weekend, the Navy wrestling team (6-1, 1-1 EIWA) will play host to Duke (2-4, 0-1 ACC) in nonconference action on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis.

Prince Scores Upset as Mids Drop Match to Eighth-Ranked Lehigh

Freshman 141-pound Jared Prince’s (Safety Harbor, Fla.) upset over ninth-ranked Randy Cruz sparked the Navy wrestling team, but it would not be enough as #8 Lehigh (6-1, 4-0 EIWA) dealt the Mids (6-1, 1-1 EIWA) their first loss of the 2016-17 season on Friday evening at Alumni Hall. The Mountain Hawks, who had five ranked wrestlers in their lineup, won seven of the 10 matches en route to the 23-9 win and the program’s 11th consecutive dual victory over an EIWA opponent.

Upset-Minded Mids Play Host to #8 Lehigh Wrestling Friday Evening

Bernstein Takes Eighth at Southern Scuffle

Two-time NCAA qualifier Jadaen Bernstein defeated hometown favorite Sean Mappes to open Monday’s action, ensuring the Navy wrestling junior would place at the 2017 Southern Scuffle held at McKenzie Arena at Chattanooga. Bernstein, seeded seventh at ranked 17th at 174 pounds, lost his final two matches of the day to place eighth in the tournament. Navy placed 19th with 22 points among 23 teams and numerous individuals wrestling unattached.

The Navy wrestling team amassed 18.5 points in Sunday’s opening day of competition at the 2017 Southern Scuffle hosted by Chattanooga and will head into Monday in 19th place with four wrestlers still active in the tournament. Freshman 141-pound Jared Prince , 149-pound Corey Wilding, 157-pound Zach Elvin (and 174-pound Jadaen Bernstein are all just one win shy of placing at one of the nation’s premier wrestling tournaments.

Mids Close Out Competition at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

Juniors Drew Daniels and Jadaen Bernstein advanced to the second day of competition at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, however, neither was able to qualify for placement rounds on Saturday as the tournament came to a close. Navy stood 26th with 17 points, one half point ahead of Cal Baptist and one piont ahead of West Virginia who each had one remaining wrestler in the competition.

Rested Mids to Compete at Prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational

After stepping away from competition for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Navy wrestling team (4-0, 0-0 EIWA) returns to action on Friday when it travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the 2016 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The Las Vegas Convention Center will serve as the host venue for the two-day tournament slated to begin Friday at 9:00 am PT / 12:00 pm ET. The CKLV Invitational is one of the top annual events that highlights some of the nation’s best wrestlers. This year’s field features 35 teams, including nine programs ranked among the top 25 in the country and another four, including Navy, who are receiving votes. Additionally, nearly 70 ranked wrestlers will be in action.
