Under the direction of head coach Paul Kostacopoulos, the Navy baseball team turned in a performance for the record books during the 2015-16 school year. The 2016 regular season saw the Mids go a school-record 43-16-1 and earn into a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

A two-time All-American while at Navy, Gillingham was drafted into the Toronto Blue Jays organization via the 37th round of the June Major League Baseball Draft. He competed with the short-season rookie level minor league team in Bluefield for four games during his summer leave before starting work on his upcoming surface warfare assignment.

Luke Gillingham and Stephen Born, a pair of two-time honorees led the group of Midshipmen that included Connor Deneen, Scott Koscho, Andrew Sauer and Matthew Wilcox. To be eligible for the sport's academic honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester.
