Navy Drops Season-Opening Doubleheader to N.C. Central

The Navy baseball team opened its 2017 season on Saturday with a pair of walk-off setbacks on the road to North Carolina Central. Playing at the Historic Durham Athletic Park, the Mids (0-2) lost a pair of hard-fought one-run games in the Eagles' (2-0) last regulation at bats by a score of 3-2 in the first contest and 8-7 in the second.

Video Preview | One year after winning the regular and postseason Patriot League crowns and collecting 43 wins, the expectations are high once again for the Navy Midshipmen in 2017. Picked second in the preseason Patriot League poll, 12th-year head coach Paul Kostacopoulos and his staff will work with a roster that returns nine starters, six on offense and three in the pitching rotation. Led by that experience, the Mids will look to incorporate a large freshmen class that will help the team’s depth and versatility. Navy is in search of a Patriot League record eighth championship as it is currently tied for first with Army with seven titles over the first 25 years of the conference. The Mids have reached the postseason in each of the past six seasons.

Midshipmen Selected Second in Patriot League Preseason Baseball Poll

The Patriot League released its annual baseball preseason poll on Tuesday and Navy was picked to finish second in a vote held amongst the conference’s head coaches and sports information contacts. The reigning Patriot League regular season and postseason champions, the Midshipmen received five first-place votes and 43 points to rank second behind the Holy Cross Crusaders, who collected six first-place votes and 46 points.

Nationals to Play Red Sox in Exhibition Game at Naval Academy on April 1

The Washington Nationals are excited to announce they will play the Boston Red Sox in an exhibition game on Saturday, April 1 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. As part of a new three-year agreement, the Nationals will hold one exhibition game at the Naval Academy through 2019.

The Navy baseball team officially began its countdown to the 2017 season this past weekend with three full team practices starting on Friday, Jan. 27. The entire 34-man roster gathered as a unit for the first time in 2017 and went through a weekend full of drills and scrimmaging at Max Bishop Stadium.

This past Thursday night, Nov. 17, the Navy baseball team had the privilege of participate in the 2016 Bob Feller Act of Valor Award ceremony in Washington, D.C. Hosted at the United States Navy Memorial's Heritage Center, a number of team members attended the ceremony that honored Minnesota Twins and California Angels Hall of Famer Rod Carew, Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Brad Ziegler, Senior Chief Petty Officer Christopher Beeding, Gunnery Sergeant Marshall Cleveland, the USS Constitution and TSC Great Lakes for their dedicated work that embodies the ideals of Bob Feller's historic and service oriented life.
