Shooting versus a four-team field of service academy squads, the No. 5 Air Force Falcons set a new President's Trophy Match record with a 5,858 five-counter score to win the competition. No. 13 Army West Point ranked second with a score of 5,796, while No. 15 Navy came in third with a 5,748. The Coast Guard Academy rounded out the field with a 5,532.

Taking on its service academy rivals from Air Force, Army West Point and the Coast Guard Academy, Navy will travel out to Colorado for the four-team meet at Air Force’s Falcon Rifle Range. The teams will face off in an eight-up, five-count format that will test the depth of each club. (Normal NCAA matches involve a five-up, four-count scoring structure.) The first shots on Saturday will come at 10 a.m. ET (8 a.m. MT, local).

Shooting at the Citadel’s Inouye Marksmanship Center, the Mids fell to the Wolfpack, 4,655-4,625 and defeated the Bulldogs, 4,625-4,493. A season-low score in air rifle spelled trouble for Navy, who was leading the three-team field after a solid start in smallbore. The Mids (6-3, 0-3 GARC) were up 2,304-2,297 over the Wolfpack (4-2, 2-1 GARC) after the three-position part of the competition before the Wolfpack outscored their GARC rival, 2,358-2,321 in air rifle

The Wildcats (2-0, 1-0 GARC) defeated the Mids (5-2, 0-2 GARC) by a final score of 4,688-4,645 in a conference match at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range. Thomas Sarant (Jr., Massapequa, N.Y.) was the high aggregate scorer for Navy on the day with a 1,164-point effort on a 580 score in smallbore and a 584 in air rifle.

Coming into Saturday’s Great American Rifle Conference contest with an aggregate average of 4635.7, the Mids (5-1, 0-1 GARC) will be looking to earn its first victory over the Wildcats (1-0, 0-0 GARC) in over 10 years. The last time the two teams met in Annapolis during the 2014-15 season, Kentucky came away with just a 10-point victory at 4,648 to 4,638.

After another week of strong performances, the Mids jumped up three spots from last week’s No. 14 position. The No. 11 national ranking is Navy’s highest since the close of the 2014-15 season.

On the strength of a strong 2,307-point smallbore performance and solid 2,341 in air rifle, the host Mids (5-1, 0-1 GARC) recorded an aggregate score that was its highest since Feb. of 2015. Memphis (2-0, 1-0 GARC) turned in a 4,669-point total to finish first of the three teams that shot in the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range, while the Bears (1-3) posted a 4,420 score.

On the strength of a 4,634-point output, the Mids defeated both VMI and John Jay as the Keydets recorded a 4,507 score, while the Bloodhounds turned in a 4,390.
