Kuhne and Kang represent Navy Rifle at 2018 NCAA Championships

The duo of Kestrel Kuhne (So., Everett, Pa.) and Torrance Kang (Fr., Columbia, Md.) concluded the 2017-18 season for the Navy rifle team this weekend at the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships. Competing as individuals, Kuhne stepped to the line in the smallbore championship on Friday and posted a score of 577 that ranked 29th overall before Kang tested herself in the air rifle portion of the national event on Saturday. Kang recorded a score of 587 that placed her 30th in the field.

Kang and Kuhne to Represent Navy at NCAA Rifle Championships

The duo of Torrance Kang (Fr., Columbia, Md.) and Kestrel Kuhne (So., Everett, Pa.) will be in action this Friday and Saturday on the grandest stage of collegiate rifle competition, the 2018 NCAA National Championships. Earning their way into the event as individual qualifiers, Kuhne will participate in the smallbore contest on Friday beginning at 9:45 a.m. before Kang steps to the line on Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m. for the air rifle shoot. The Citadel and McAlister Field House in Charleston, S.C. will serve as the host site for the national championship.

Kestrel Kuhne Earns All-GARC Smallbore & Combined Honors

As part of this weekend's Great American Rifle Conference Championship competition, the association named its annual all-league teams for smallbore, air rifle and combined action. Kestrel Kuhne (Everett, Pa.) gave Navy its fourth- and fifth-ever conference honors as the sophomore was named Second Team All-GARC in smallbore and honorable mention in the combined shooting category.

Navy Rifle Finishes Program-Best Third at 2018 GARC Championship

The Navy rifle team concluded its most successful weekend of Great American Rifle Conference Championship action in team history on Sunday with a third place result. Tallying 2,348 points in the air rifle portion of the two-day competition at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building on Sunday, the Mids totaled 4,663 aggregate points to finish third overall in a deep and talented nine-time field.

Navy Opens GARC Championship with Strong Smallbore Result

The No. 10 Navy rifle team opened the two-day Great American Rifle Conference Championship on Saturday with an excellent smallbore performance that sees the squad sitting in third place with 2,315 points. Shooting at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building, the Mids posted their third highest smallbore score of 2017-18 and trail just West Virginia and Kentucky, the nation's first and fourth ranked teams, in the team standings.

Navy to Compete at GARC Championship this Weekend

The No. 10 Navy rifle program will wrap up its 2017-18 team season with two days of action at the 2018 Great American Rifle Conference Championship. Beginning on Saturday morning and concluding Sunday, the Mids will shoot at West Virginia University versus a deep and talented field of national competitors. Including the 10th ranked Mids, nine of the NCAA's top-16 teams will toe the line at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building. The first relay of smallbore action on Saturday starts at 7 a.m., while the air rifle portion of the championship kicks off on Sunday at 8 a.m.

Kang and Kuhne Selected to Participate in 2018 NCAA Rifle Championship

The NCAA announced late Wednesday the field for the upcoming 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships. After releasing the names of the eight programs that qualified as teams, eight top-scoring individuals were announced. For their efforts in the NCAA Qualifying Match this past Saturday, sophomore Kestrel Kuhne and freshman Torrance Kang were selected to the prestigious national championship event. The two Midshipmen sharpshooters will compete on the weekend of March 9-10 in Charleston, S.C. with Kuhne shooting in the smallbore event and Kang in the air rifle contest.

Navy Dominates NCAA Qualifying Match with 4,673 Points

The Navy rifle team had an outstanding performance on Saturday in the program's 2018 NCAA Qualifying Match versus John Jay. Coming into the contest ranked 14th in the nation, the Mids put forth a near season-best effort that put them right in the thick of the conversation for a top-eight standing and potential bid to next month's NCAA Championship. Navy totaled 4,673 points on its way to a 4,673-4,420 victory.

NCAA Qualifying Match Ahead for #14 Navy Rifle

The No. 14 Navy rifle team will close out its home schedule on Saturday morning with its 2018 NCAA Qualifying Match versus John Jay. The Mids (4-8) and Bloodhounds (4-4) will go shoulder-to-shoulder at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range beginning at 9 a.m.

Navy Closes Regular Season at VMI

The Navy rifle team wrapped up its 2017-18 regular season on Sunday as one of four teams shooting at VMI's Kilbourne Hall. Looking to replace one of its previous road scores for the NCAA Championship qualification process, the Mids were unable to hit their stride as they ended up settling for an aggregate total of 4,624. Amongst the four teams shooting at VMI, Air Force tallied a score of 4,691, Akron a 4,638 and VMI a 4,465.

Navy to Conclude Regular Season with Multi-Team Match at VMI

The Navy rifle team will wrap up its regular season on Sunday with a four-team competition at VMI. Recently added to the schedule, the matchup has seen a variety of revisions throughout the week until the lineup settled with the quartet of No. 7 Air Force, No. 14 Navy, No. 15 Akron and No. 25 VMI. The four teams will head to the line Sunday morning beginning at 8 a.m. at VMI's Kilbourne Hall.

Navy Upended by Army in 2018 Rifle Star Match

The 2018 Rifle Star Match was one for the record books on Saturday as both teams came out fast and continued to hold on to a high scoring pace at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range. After the final shot was shot, No. 14 Army came out ahead of No. 13 Navy by 19 points at 5,832-5,813. Coming into the match with a nominal statistical advantage in terms of aggregate scoring average, the host Mids were felled by a Black Knights team that surpassed their average by over 43 points. Navy also beat its pre-match average by 13 points.

Rifle Readies for Army-Navy Star Match

Video Preview | The 2018 edition of the Army-Navy Rifle Star Match is set for this Saturday at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range in Annapolis. The showdown between the No. 13 Mids (3-5, 2-5 GARC) and No. 14 Black Knights (5-8, 2-5 GARC) will begin at 9 a.m. Navy comes into the matchup with four straight competition scores of 4,655-plus, including a school-record 4,683 that was shot on Jan. 21.

No. 13 Navy Rifle Edged by No. 8 Ole Miss in GARC Contest

Navy's hot start to the second half of its 2017-18 season continued on Sunday as the Mids posted their fourth straight match score of 4,655 or higher. Buoyed by a strong effort in smallbore, the host Mids (3-5, 2-5 GARC) put themselves in good position at halfway mark, but down the stretch of their competition they were overtaken by the eighth-ranked Ole Miss Rebels (6-5, 5-3 GARC) by two points, 4,659-4,657.
