The Navy rifle team closed out its weekend of competition at the WVU Rifle Range with a 4677-4629 defeat to Nebraska on Saturday. Shooting at the neutral site, the Mids (6-5, 0-5 GARC) were unable to overcome a slow start in smallbore before the Huskers (8-1, 5-1 GARC) pulled away with a strong performance in air rifle.

No. 16 Rifle Posts Season-High 4651 in Defeat at No. 2 West Virginia

The Navy rifle team had a strong performance on Friday afternoon at the WVU Rifle Range as the squad went head-to-head versus the four-time defending NCAA Champion West Virginia Mountaineers and recorded a season-high 4651-point effort. The Mids’ (6-4, 0-4 GARC) noteworthy output fell short as the host Mountaineers (9-0, 6-0 GARC) turned in the third-best score in the nation this season with a 4725.

Rifle Back in Action with Weekend Set of Matches

Live Targets | The Navy rifle team will get back into competitive action as part of its 2016-17 schedule this weekend with a pair of challenging Great American Rifle Conference matches in Morgantown, W.Va. at the WVU Rifle Range. The action begins on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. with a faceoff versus the four-time defending NCAA Champion, West Virginia Mountaineers (8-0, 5-0 GARC). Following a matchup against the second-ranked team in the nation, the Mids (6-3, 0-3 GARC) will turn their attention to the eighth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-1, 4-1 GARC) in a Saturday morning event at 8 a.m. This weekend’s competition will be the first for Navy since Nov. 5 at the President’s Trophy Match.

Navy Rifle Finishes Third at President's Trophy Match

The Navy rifle team finished in third place in Saturday's President's Trophy Match that was hosted by the United States Air Force Academy. Shooting versus a four-team field of service academy squads, the No. 5 Air Force Falcons set a new President's Trophy Match record with a 5,858 five-counter score to win the competition. No. 13 Army West Point ranked second with a score of 5,796, while No. 15 Navy came in third with a 5,748. The Coast Guard Academy rounded out the field with a 5,532.

Rifle to Close First Half of the Season with President’s Trophy Match

Live Targets | The Navy rifle team will wrap up the first half of its 2016-17 season on Saturday with competition at the annual President’s Trophy Match. Taking on its service academy rivals from Air Force, Army West Point and the Coast Guard Academy, Navy will travel out to Colorado for the four-team meet at Air Force’s Falcon Rifle Range. The teams will face off in an eight-up, five-count format that will test the depth of each club. (Normal NCAA matches involve a five-up, four-count scoring structure.) The first shots on Saturday will come at 10 a.m. ET (8 a.m. MT, local).

Navy Rifle Records Split Decision at The Citadel on Saturday

In its first road match of the season the Navy rifle team shot a 4,625 aggregate score to split a three-team meet versus No. 10 North Carolina State and the Citadel. Shooting at the Citadel’s Inouye Marksmanship Center, the Mids fell to the Wolfpack, 4,655-4,625 and defeated the Bulldogs, 4,625-4,493. A season-low score in air rifle spelled trouble for Navy, who was leading the three-team field after a solid start in smallbore. The Mids (6-3, 0-3 GARC) were up 2,304-2,297 over the Wolfpack (4-2, 2-1 GARC) after the three-position part of the competition before the Wolfpack outscored their GARC rival, 2,358-2,321 in air rifle

Navy-North Carolina State GARC Rifle Match Set for Saturday
