Volleyball’s Root Named To All-BIG EAST Second Team

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The BIG EAST announced its annual regular season awards on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Providence College volleyball sophomore Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for her efforts this season. Root has had a major impact on the Friars in her first season with the team. Root has led the team in kills (416), service aces (36), points (416) is third on the team in digs (258).



Providence Volleyball Drops Final Match Of Season Against Villanova

VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College volleyball team finished its regular season with a match against the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 18. The Friars dropped the match of the season, 3-0. With the loss, Providence finished the regular season with a record of 17-16 and 6-12 in the BIG EAST. It was Providence’s first winning season since 2007 and the Friars had a five match win improvement in BIG EAST play from last season.



Providence Volleyball Defeats Georgetown In Five Sets

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Providence College volleyball earned a 3-2 victory over BIG EAST rival Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Friday, Nov. 17. With the victory, the Friars secured their first winning season since 2007. The win was also the second victory over Georgetown this season.

The Friars will face the Georgetown Hoyas on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6:00 p.m. Providence will then finish off the weekends action on Saturday when they take on the Villanova Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.

Providence Volleyball Announces Two NLI Signings

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced on Nov. 8 by Providence College women’s volleyball Head Coach Margot Royer-Johnson that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2018. Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Erika Calvagna (Tustin Ranch, Calif.) will compete for the Friars in 2018.

The Friars will face the Blue Demons on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. Providence will then finish its weekend against Marquette on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 4:00 p.m. The match against the Golden Eagles will be Providence’s Senior Day.

Providence To Host #16 Creighton For Two Match Weekend Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team is set to host a two match weekend series against the #16 Creighton Bluejays on Oct. 27-28. Due to the fact that the Providence and Creighton are travel partners, they play each other in back-to-back matches over one weekend each season. Last year, the Friars traveled to Omaha, Neb. for two matches. The Friars first match against the Bluejays will take place on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m. The weekend will then conclude with a match at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women’s volleyball team took on the St. John’s Red Storm on Sunday, Oct. 22. The match was a hard fought back and forth affair as each match was decided by five or less points. With the loss, the Friars are now 15-10 on the season and 4-6 in BIG EAST play.
