Field Hockey Falls To Top-Ranked Connecticut In BIG EAST Semifinals, 3-0

The Providence College field hockey team fell to top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Connecticut, 3-0, on Nov. 3 in the BIG EAST Conference Semifinals in Providence, R.I. The Huskies advance to the championship game, slated for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, and will face the winner of today’s second semifinal game between No. 2 seed Liberty and No. 3 seed Old Dominion. The Friars conclude their season with an 11-8 overall record.



BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship Pre-Tournament Press Conference

On Thursday, Nov. 2, the four teams who qualified for the 2017 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, presented by Jeep, held practices at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and attended pre-tournament press conferences.

The BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, presented by Jeep, will be hosted by Providence College. All three games of the tournament will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The semifinals are slated for Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The championship game is set for Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. Providence College also hosted the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship in 2009 and 2014.



Four Field Hockey Players Earn BIG EAST Honors

The BIG EAST Conference released its All-BIG EAST selections and major post-season awards for field hockey on Thursday, Nov. 2. Providence College was well-represented among the list of honorees. Defender Manon van Weezel (Waalre, Holland) was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and was a unanimous selection on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Senior midfielder Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) also was tabbed as a unanimous All-BIG EAST First-Team selection, while senior goalkeeper Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) and junior defender Corinne Kenney (Warrington, Pa.) took home All-BIG EAST Second Team honors.



Field Hockey Defeats Non-Conference Foe Penn On Senior Day, 1-0

The Providence College field hockey team defeated non-conference foe Penn on senior day, 1-0, at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. Providence concluded its regular-season schedule with an 11-7 overall record, while Penn dropped to 9-7 on the year. Senior midfielder Allie Lancaster (Cornville, Maine) scored the game-winning goal with 4:10 remaining in regulation to seal the win. Senior goalkeeper Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) collected six saves for Providence in the cage.



Field Hockey Falls To Old Dominion, 2-0

The Providence College field hockey team fell to Old Dominion, 2-0, in the BIG EAST regular-season finale on Friday, Oct. 27 in Providence, R.I. The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 29 against non-conference foe Penn at Noon. Prior to the match, the program will honor its senior class of Megan Guilbert (Morganville, Pa.), Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.), Allie Lancaster (Cornville, Maine) and Abby Thornton (West Pittston, Pa.).



Field Hockey Hosts Old Dominion And Penn In Final Weekend Of Regular-Season

The Providence College field hockey team will conclude its regular-season schedule with a pair of home games against BIG EAST foe Old Dominion and non-conference opponent Penn. The Friars and Monarchs will square off on Friday, Oct. 27 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The match will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go, and is scheduled to begin at 2:05 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 29, the Friars will welcome the Quakers for a 12:00 p.m. match at Lennon Family Field. Prior to the game, Providence will honor its senior class (Megan Guilbert, Megan Hamilton, Allie Lancaster and Abby Thornton) in a brief ceremony.

Providence College senior field hockey goalkeeper Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) was selected to play in the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game, while fellow senior Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) was chosen as an alternate for the event. The NFHCA announced its list of 38 participants and 12 alternates on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

The Providence College field hockey team defeated Georgetown, 4-3, in BIG EAST action on Friday, Oct. 13 in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while Georgetown evened its record to 7-7 and fell to 1-4 in the BIG EAST. Providence College Athletic Facility Upgrades Come Full Circle

Providence College’s campus landscape changed significantly with the construction of the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in 2005. It was one of the first major athletic facility projects to be completed under the direction of Bob Driscoll, who joined the campus community as Athletics Director in 2001. At the time, the complex served as the home venue for the field hockey and men’s lacrosse programs, in addition to various intramural sports activities.
