Providence College To Host 2017 BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship

Providence College has been selected to host the 2017 BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championship presented by Jeep. The announcement was made by the league office on Nov. 29, 2016. The championship is scheduled for May 4-6 and will be played at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.

As the Providence College men’s lacrosse program prepares for the 2017 regular-season schedule, the Friars will host UMass in a fall scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 14 in Providence, R.I. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The scrimmage is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The match-up sets the stage for what fans will see in 2017, and offers a window of opportunity to releases the program’s regular-season schedule.

Providence College men’s lacrosse Head Coach Chris Gabrielli announced today [Oct. 6] that junior James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario), sophomore Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.), and seniors Jimmy Cunningham (Syracuse, N.Y.), Austin Goltz (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Jarrod Neumann have been selected as team captains.

Providence College lacrosse Head Coach Chris Gabrielli has welcomed 12 new members to his program, who joined the College community this fall (2016). The team is currently in the midst of its non-traditional fall campaign and his 12 newcomers are in the thick of their first season of collegiate competition. The program’s 12 newcomers include, Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.), Damon Currie (Guelph, Ontario, Canada), Troy Higgins (Summit, N.J.), Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.), Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.), Kevin McCordic (Medfield, Mass.), Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.), RJ Romeo (Wilton, Conn.), Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.), Rob Stovel (Fergus, Ontario, Canada), Nick Tommasi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Ryan Zimmerman (Syracuse, N.Y.).
