Providence College senior defensemen James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario) was selected as the 57th overall pick by the Charlotte Hounds (Seventh Round, 3rd pick) in the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Draft (MLL) on April 19. The MLL Collegiate Draft was held at the U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.

Field Hockey. Field Hockey Announces Summer Clinic And Camp Schedule

Providence College field hockey Head Coach Diane Madl has announced her summer clinic and camp schedule, presented by Circle to Circle Field Hockey Camps, LLC. Madl and her staff will offer a two-day clinic on June 9-10, 2018, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. An "open camp" also is available, which is scheduled for July 22-25, 2018. The camp offers overnight and commuter options and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30-9:00 p.m. each day, with the final day of camp finishing at Noon.

M. Lacrosse. Friars Defeat Brown In Overtime To Win Ocean State Cup

The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Brown University, 12-11, in overtime on Tuesday night at Brown University to win the 2018 Ocean State Cup. It marked the Friars first victory over the Bears in school history.

M. Lacrosse. Men's Lacrosse Earns BIG EAST Weekly Honor For Second-Consecutive Week

Providence College men's lacrosse player Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league on Monday, April 16. Nawrocki is one of seven Friars to earn BIG EAST recognition in 2018. Nawrocki led the Friars' attack against Marquette on April 14, scoring four of the team's 11 goals in the 12-11 overtime defeat.

Softball. Softball's Veler Named To BIG EAST Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST announced its weekly awards and honor roll for softball on Monday, April 16. Providence senior Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) was named to the BIG EAST honor roll for the second time this season. In five game, Veler batted .412 with seven hits, two doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and recorded a slugging percentage of 1.059.

M. Basketball. Men's Basketball Announces Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Ed Cooley announced the 2017-18 team awards on Saturday, April 14. The honors were given out at the team's annual end-of-year banquet at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, R.I. Senior Kyron Carwright (Compton, Calif.) and senior Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) were named the Jimmy Walker Most Valuable Players for the second consecutive season. Other highlights included junior Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla.) earning the John Zannini Coaches Award, and freshmen Nate Watson (Arlington, Va.) and Makai Ashton-Langford (Worcester, Mass.) being named the Coca-Cola Most Promising Prospects. Senior Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) earned the Marvin Barnes Defensive Player of the Year honors. Sophomore Kalif Young (Vaughan, Ontario) earned the Lenny Wilkens Hustle Award. Sophomore Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) was named the Ryan Gomes Most Improved Player. In addition, senior forward Tom Planek (Oak Park, Ill.) received the Thomas Ramos Academic Award after posting the team's highest grade-point average.



Softball. Softball Drops Doubleheader Against Villanova

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team finished its season series against the Villanova Wildcats with a double header on Saturday, April 14. The Friars were defeated 5-2 in game one and lost the second game 3-2. With the loses, the team drops to 9-23 (4-7) on the season.
