Providence College announced today [Aug. 22] that YurView will broadcast select athletic events during the 2017-18 academic year on Cox channels 4 and 1004. The current schedule consists of 18 events spanning men's and women's soccer, field hockey, women's basketball and women's ice hockey. Additional coverage of Providence College athletic events for winter and spring sports will be released as details become available. Winter coverage will include Providence College men's ice hockey.

The Providence College field hockey team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2017 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released on Aug. 17. Senior forward/midfielder Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) and sophomore defender Floor Rozemeijer (Santpoort-Zuid, Holland) represented the Friars as members of the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Former Providence College women’s basketball player Sarah Beal ’17 (Matthews, N.C.) has signed a contract to play professionally for the Wetterbygden Sparks. The team is located in Huskvarna, Sweden and Beal is scheduled to join the club at the end of August.

The BIG EAST Conference released its 2017 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll today [Aug. 11]. Providence College was picked to finish fifth in the poll, with 48 points. Georgetown, who earned a No. 5 ranking in the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Poll, topped the BIG EAST poll with 81 points and accumulated nine first-place votes.



General News. Friar Athletic Fundraising Has Another Record Setting Year Generating $6.6 Million

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll announced today that the Athletic Department had another successful year fundraising, generating a record $6.6 million for the 2016-17 Fiscal Year. It marked the 10th consecutive year that the Department established a record for fundraised dollars.

The Providence College Cheerleaders attended the UCA College Spirit Camp hosted by the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pa. on July 31- August 2. Alongside many great northeast cheerleading teams, and even a surprise appearance by an out of region University of Tennessee, they learned tips on how to better Game Day presentation, increase stunting skills, and most importantly build strong lasting relationships and bonds that will lead to a successful season and great memories!
