W. Track & Field. Former Friar Emily Sisson ’14 Qualifies For IAAF World Championships

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Former Providence College Track and Field standout Emily Sisson ’14 qualified for the IAAF World Championships in the 10,000 meters on Thursday, June 22. Sisson, racing on the first night of the United States Track and Field (USATF) Championships, finished third overall with a time of 31:25. By finishing within the top three, she automatically qualifies for the IAAF World Championships.

On Thursday, June 15 the Providence College Athletic Department held its annual Hannoush Jewelers Friar Golf Classic at Warwick Country Club in Warwick, R.I. The sold out event raised more than $140,000 that will directly enhance the experience of every student-athlete at Providence College. Over the past 10 years, this event has brought in over $1 million dollars for Friar Athletics.

Providence College rising sophomore field hockey player Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) was named to the U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team on June 21. Michals’ selection to the team came on the heels of her performance at the USA Field Hockey Young Women’s National Championship, where she earned an invitation to the U-21 Junior National Camp.

Swimming & Diving. Friars' Swimming And Diving Teams Honored By CSCAA For Excellence In The Classroom

The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving programs have each earned national recognition for excellence in the classroom. The College Swimming & Diving Coaches' Association (CSCAA) announced its honorees fro the 2017 Spring Semester Scholar All-America Award today [June 21]. Providence College was among the list of programs recognized on both the men's and women's sides.

Providence College rising sophomore field hockey player Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) completed play at the 2017 Young Women’s National Championship today [June 16]. The five-day event was held at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa. The YWNC afforded nearly 130 athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of coaches and selectors in order to progress within the Olympic Development pipeline.

M. Basketball. College Awards Construction Management Contract for First Phase of Ruane Friar Development Center to Dimeo Construction

Providence College today announced that the College has awarded the construction management contract for Phase I of the Ruane Friar Development Center (RFDC) to Dimeo Construction of Providence. The RFDC will be a new, multi-purpose facility attached to Alumni Hall, whose first phase will include a basketball practice facility and space for associated Department of Athletics activities. Dimeo Construction has completed several projects for Providence College, most recently the Arthur F. & Patricia Ryan Center for Business Studies (2017) and the Ruane Center for the Humanities (2013), the College’s two newest academic buildings.

It was announced on Wednesday, June 7 that Providence College graduate Jarrod Neumann ’17 (Springfield, Mass.) has earned USILA/Nike Division I Scholar All-America honors. The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) is an organization that aims to enhance the sport of intercollegiate lacrosse for its members. This honor was established in 1989 as a way to distinguish those athletes who excelled on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

W. Track & Field. Track Set For Start Of Final Round Of NCAA Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College track and field teams are set for the start of the Final Round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. The Final Round will take place over a four-day span, from Wednesday, June 7 until Saturday, June 10. The Friars have three athletes competing in the Final Round. Junior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) will be in the 1,500 meters, junior Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) will compete in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase, and graduate student Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) will race the 5,000 meters.
