The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by Boston College, 2-1, in double overtime on Tuesday, Sept. 19 in Newton, Mass. The Eagles were awarded a penalty kick 2:08 into the second overtime after a collision in the box, and Simon Enstrom converted the kick to win the game.

Providence College freshman defender Manon van Weezel (Waalre, Holland) was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for field hockey on Monday, Sept. 18. It marks the second time this season that van Weezel has earned Freshman of the Week accolades. Additionally, sophomore forward Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) was recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

It was a tough weekend of competition facing many talented teams from Army, Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University, Quinnipiac University, Fordham University and University of Connecticut.

Providence College women’s soccer players earned multiple BIG EAST awards as announced by the league on Monday, Sept. 18. The Friars finished the weekend 2-0 with wins over St. Joseph’s (3-0) on Thursday night and UMass Lowell (2-0) on Sunday evening. Katie Day (East Kingston, N.H.), Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) and Christina Rodgers (Scotch Plains, N.Y.) each earned BIG EAST honors for their respective positions.

The Providence College field hockey team defeated UC Davis, 5-2, in non-conference action on Sunday, Sept. 1. The Friars captured two wins during the weekend and scored a total of nine goals. On Sunday, freshman Manon van Weezel paced the Friars' effort with two goals, marking the first goals of her collegiate career.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Providence College Volleyball team competed at the Black Knight Invitational on Sept. 15-16. The Friars went 0-3 for the weekend, dropping matches against Akron, West Virginia, and Army. This was the last non-conference tournament Providence will compete in this season.
