The Providence College men’s soccer team resumes BIG EAST play on Oct. 1 against the Xavier Musketeers at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports GO.

The women's soccer team defeated Xavier University on Thursday, Sept. 29 in Providence, R.I. just seven minutes into overtime, 2-1. The Friars move to 7-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the BIG EAST. The Musketeers moved to 6-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the BIG EAST.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's and women's Cross Country teams return to action at the Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Sept. 30. This will be the first time since 2009 that Providence has competed at the Joe Piane Invitational. In the latest USTFCCCA poll, the women were ranked No. 1 in the nation and the men received votes towards being ranked in the top 30. The women's race will start at 2:00 p.m. ET and the men's race will start at 2:45 p.m. ET.

The Providence College field hockey team will host No. 1-ranked Connecticut in BIG EAST action on Friday, Sept. 30 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. The Friars conclude their weekend with a road game at Fairfield on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1:00 p.m.



W. Volleyball. Volleyball Travels To Take On Butler And Xavier

PROVIDENCE R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team is set to continue its BIG EAST schedule with matches against Butler University and Xavier University. Providence will take on Butler on Sept. 30 at 6:00 p.m and Xavier on Oct. 1 at 4:00 p.m. There will be live stats and live stream for both matches. The Providence College men’s soccer team was defeated by the University of Connecticut Huskies on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1-0, at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The Huskies scored the lone goal of the contest in the 76th minute. The Friars move to 4-5 while the Huskies improve to 7-3.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The USTFCCCA released their latest national poll on Sept. 27, ranking the Providence College women’s cross country team first in the nation. The Friars have slowly but surely closed the gap on the number one spot since being ranked third in the Pre-season poll on Aug. 30. The Friars received four first place votes and have a four-point lead over Colorado and New Mexico, who are both tied for second place. This is the first time the women have been ranked number one in the nation since November 18, 2013.

Providence College lacrosse Head Coach Chris Gabrielli has welcomed 12 new members to his program, who joined the College community this fall (2016). The team is currently in the midst of its non-traditional fall campaign and his 12 newcomers are in the thick of their first season of collegiate competition. The program’s 12 newcomers include, Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.), Damon Currie (Guelph, Ontario, Canada), Troy Higgins (Summit, N.J.), Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.), Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.), Kevin McCordic (Medfield, Mass.), Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.), RJ Romeo (Wilton, Conn.), Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.), Rob Stovel (Fergus, Ontario, Canada), Nick Tommasi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Ryan Zimmerman (Syracuse, N.Y.).

Providence College field hockey defender Floor Rozemeijer (Santpoort-Zuid, Holland) was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday, Sept. 26. Senior midfielder Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) also was recognized by the league as a member of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. For Rozemeijer, it marks the first weekly conference honors of her collegiate career, while Houle has been a fixture on the league’s weekly honor roll for four-consecutive weeks.
