Family Service of Rhode Island, a statewide non-profit serving abused children and many other Rhode Islanders in need, honored Providence College men's basketball coach Ed Cooley at its 12th annual Brighter Futures luncheon, Wednesday, (Oct. 26, 2016) at the Rhode Island Convention Center at noon.Speakers included Family Service of Rhode Island CEO Margaret Holland McDuff; Providence College president Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P.; John C. Simmons, president of the Family Service of Rhode Island board of directors and executive director of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council; and Coach Cooley.

Providence College freshman forward Sylvia Miller (Severn, Md.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for field hockey on Monday, Oct. 24. It marks the second time this season that Miller has been named to the Honor Roll, having previously been recognized by the league on Oct. 17.

The Eagles scored with just 52-seconds remaining on the clock in the second overtime session to earn the win. The Friars fall to 12-5 overall on the year, while Boston College improves to 9-7.
