Hawks finish 6-2 at MEAC No. 2 meet in Pocomoke

Maryland Eastern Shore bowling coach Kayla Bandy has been adamant that this year's roster is deeper than any she's had in her three seasons at the helm of the Hawks program.Over the weekend during the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference North No. 2 meet, she got proof.After going 3-1 on Saturday with a lineup of regular starters at Eastern Shore Lanes in Pocomoke, Bandy had an opportunity to put a completely different lineup on the lanes on Sunday.Sophomore Lindy Esteban (Kapolei, Hawaii), sophomore Quianna Macares (Willemstad, Curacao), freshman Cayla Hicks (Richmond, Virginia), freshman Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) and junior Jalesa Johnson (Delmar, Delaware) all played all day on Sunday.That group finished the day's Baker matches 3-1 as well to give the team a 6-2 mark for the weekend.

When Delaware State University ran into problems in hosting this weekend's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division bowling match, The Shore was happy to step up and play host.Coach Kayla Bandy's team will now battle its second MEAC North competition just 20 miles south of Princess Anne at Eastern Shore Lanes in Pocomoke, Maryland.

Hawks stay hot into Day 2 of Classic, still second

The Maryland Eastern Shore bowling team headed into Day 2 of the Hawk Classic in second place and looking to maintain their late momentum from Friday. It all could have been derailed, in the second match of the day against Monmouth.Entering the second frame, the lane broke down and it took a 20-minute delay for the technician to fix the problem.The Shore’s bowlers could have lost focus. They could have gotten frustrated.“At that moment things could have gone south,” head coach Kayla Bandy said. “However, the girls just rebounded as if nothing happened. They stayed calm, everyone handled what was given to us and we moved on about our business. That was a pretty big turning point for us.”It was in fact the only match the team lost on the day as they finished 6-1 on the day, but the strong 952 in the loss contributed to the full day total pinfall of 5,928 and their second-place standing heading into the final day of competition.



Hawks stand in 2nd after late run on Day 1 of Hawk Classic

ORLANDO -- Entering Friday's opening day of the Bethune-Cookman Wildcat Classic, Maryland Eastern Shore bowling coach Kayla Bandy said she knew the team was in for a challenge because their first event of the season boasted some talented teams.That full day of Baker competition turned out to be a bumpy one for the Hawks, but they rebounded during Saturday's traditional matches and in Sunday's Championship round to finish third to open the 2016-17 season.
