The Georgetown University men’s tennis team opened the 2018 spring season with a pair of 4+1 matches against VCU and Drexel on Friday in Richmond, Virginia. The squad fell to both opponents, but had some solid performances to begin the year.



W. Basketball. Georgetown Upends Marquette, 85-58

The Georgetown University women’s basketball team put together an incredible performance Friday evening handing the Marquette University Golden Eagles (13-6, 7-1 BIG EAST) their first BIG EAST Conference loss of the season with an 85-58 victory at McDonough Arena. The hot-shooting Hoyas were led by senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola College) who had a career-high 26 points as well as 13 rebounds to improve to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in league play.



M. Soccer. Lema Goes to FC Dallas in MLS SuperDraft

Georgetown University men’s soccer midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) was selected by FC Dallas with the 34th selection overall of the 2018 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Friday. Lema was the 11th pick of the second round.

Two Georgetown University student-athletes were recognized with the 2018 PNC Student-Athlete Achiever Awards during Wednesday’s men’s basketball game against No. 1/1 Villanova at Capital One Arena. Junior Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) from the swimming & diving program was the male recipient, while senior Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School) of the women’s golf team was the female honoree.

Georgetown University women's soccer standout Elizabeth Wenger (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was selected by the Boston Breakers in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft on Thursday morning. Wenger was selected by the Breakers with the seventh pick in the second round of the draft, the 17th overall selection.

The Georgetown University women’s basketball team (7-10, 2-5 BIG EAST) will continue BIG EAST Conference play on Friday evening, matching up against the Marquette University Golden Eagle at 7 p.m. at McDonough Arena. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN). On Sunday, the Hoyas will host a 2 p.m. contest against DePaul University. The Georgetown men's basketball team dropped an 88-56 decision to the No. 1/1 Villanova Wildcats at Capital One Arena on Wednesday night. With its second-straight loss, the Hoyas slipped to 12-6 overall with a 2-5 record in BIG EAST Conference play. The `Cats improve to 17-1 on the year with a 5-1 mark in conference action.



M. Lacrosse. Charlie Ford Selected by Florida Launch in MLL Supplemental Draft

Georgetown University alum Charlie Ford (C‘17) was selected with the 79th overall pick (Round 9) by the Florida Launch in the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft on Tuesday. Ford becomes the 33rd Hoya in program history to be selected in an MLL draft.



Football. Neugebauer Relishes Opportunity Coaching U.S. Under-19 Select Team

On Friday, Jan. 12, Georgetown University Football Assistant Coach Adam Neugebauer switched out his Georgetown blue and gray for the red, white and blue of the United States Under-19 Select Team. Neugebauer served as the head coach for the 2018 International Bowl and led the U.S. team to a resounding, 48-13, victory over Team Nordic which consisted of players from Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway. The game took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The honor comes after the program opened the 2018 portion of the season at the Nittany Lion Challenge, hosted by Penn State, in State College, Pennsylvania on Saturday. The meet was highlighted by three event titles across both squads.
