W. Basketball. Hoyas Travel to Xavier and Butler This Weekend

The Georgetown University women's basketball team (10-7, 2-5 BIG EAST) play a pair of BIG EAST road contests opponents this weekend. On Friday, Georgetown will face Xavier University (10-8, 2-5 BIG EAST) at 8 p.m. on FS1. On Sunday, the Hoyas will travel to Butler University (5-13, 2-5 BIG EAST) for a 1 p.m. matchup on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

The Georgetown University Athletics Department, along with DC Public Schools (DCPS), has launched the Georgetown Hoyas Achievement Program, which will provide opportunities for students at schools in the nation’s capital to attend upcoming men’s basketball games.

Georgetown University track & field All-Americans Emma Keenan (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) and Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) were named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s and Men’s Track Athletes of the Week, respectively, on Wednesday afternoon out of the league office in New York City. The dual honors come after the Hoyas competed at the Nittany Lion Challenge, held at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on the campus of Penn State, on Saturday afternoon.

Head Coach Pete Wilk and the Georgetown baseball team have selected the three captains for the upcoming 2017 season. Seniors Simon Mathews, Jake Kuzbel and Nick Leonard were selected by a team vote and will lead the Hoyas this spring.

Georgetown University swimming & diving senior Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) has been named the BIG EAST Female Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week. The award, which was announced by the conference on Tuesday, recognizes Duncalf’s efforts in Georgetown’s three meets this past weekend.



M. Soccer. Bakie Goodman Drafted by Seattle Sounders in MLS SuperDraft

Georgetown University men’s soccer midfielder Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted) was selected by the Seattle Sounders with the 56th selection overall of the 2017 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Tuesday. Goodman was the 12th pick of the third round and will join the reigning MLS champions.

M. Cross Country; Track & Field. Georgetown Indoor Track & Field Competes at Nittany Lion Challenge

The Georgetown University track & field team opened the 2017 portion of the indoor season at the Nittany Lion Challenge, held at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on the campus of Penn State, on Saturday. The one-day affair was highlighted by five event titles with three for the men and a pair for the women. The Blue & Gray swept the distance medley relay (DMR) and the 1,000-meter events.
