When buying a car... Fri, 7 Apr 2006 01:49:51 CDT A cars residual value is one of the most important things to consider when purchasing a new vehicle. The residual value tells you how much you can expect the car to depreciate. Because new-car depreciation is the single biggest car-ownership cost, residual value gives you the inside on how much your vehicle will cost you over its life. Residual value is an estimate of the future worth of a new vehicle. Calculated by the Automotive Lease Guide (ALG), residuals forecast what a new car will sell for several years down the road, when its original owner trades the vehicle and it enters the pre-owned market. If youre on the lookout for a new car, you may want to check out this list from ForbesAutos.com:: 10 cars with best residual value * Mini Cooper * Honda Accord * Toyota Avalon * Porsche 911 Carrera * Acura TL * Mercedes-Benz CL-Class * Honda Odyssey * Land Rover Range Rover Sport * Toyota Sequoia * Toyota Tundra
Vibe discontinued Fri, 31 Mar 2006 23:26:50 CST News is that Pontiac will discontinue the GT and all-wheel-drive versions of the Vibe wagon after the 2006 model year due to sluggish sales of those models and changes in U.S. emissions standards that would have made them costly to redesign. Pontiac has decided to continue production of the base-model Vibe for the 2007 model year. According to a company spokesman, the automaker may bring back the GT and awd versions with the next-generation Vibe. In a bulletin to Pontiac dealers Thursday morning, Buick-Pontiac-GMC General Manager John Larson told dealers they had until April and May to put in their last requests for the GT and AWD versions. Larson cited changes to U.S. regulatory standards as the reason. Meanwhile, should you need reliable GMC auto parts like fender, door handle, A/C condenser, or grille, just visit Auto Parts Corner.

A Prius makeover Wed, 15 Mar 2006 02:44:49 CST Scared of giving your two year old Toyota Prius a cosmetic makeover? Why not take a look at what Legend George Barris, maker of the Batmobile, did to the famous hybrid poster vehicle: According to reports, the customizer's Web site says the Prius BK1, decked out in "Matrix Pearl Kandy Pagan Metallic" and "Matrix Pearl Kandy Emerald Green Metallic," was commissioned by Toyota and The New York Times. The soon to be world's number one automaker provided the car on the condition that Barris wouldn't chop the Prius or touch its complex electronics. It took Barris nine days and $10,000 to alter the hybrid. Barris and his crew added a full horizontal duckbill spoiler to the hybrids trunk lid and outfitted it with American Racing 18-inch chrome wheels and BFGoodrich low-profile tires. A vertical grille extends into the hood, and the wheel arches are flared. So why not let inspiration hit you? For starters, you can try checking out Auto Parts Corner for Toyota bumpers, grilles, spoilers, hood and tail lights.
Just gorgeous Fri, 3 Mar 2006 15:48:01 CST Meet the Roadster F, a new jewel in the Zonda family and is now currently on display at the Geneva Motor Show among other magnificent cars. Hand built at the Pagani Atelier in a limited run of 25, this beauty offers the outstanding driveability and performance of the F Coupè, made more delectable by the experience of driving with the wind blowing through your hair. Because the original roof made out of carbon fiber and cloth (removable in a few seconds) and due to the use of carbon fabrics for the construction of the central chassis, bodywork and interior, it was possible to maintain the dry weight of 1230kg, which translates in a weight/power ratio of 1,89kg/hp for the Clubsport version.

The Popular Ones Tue, 21 Feb 2006 16:21:19 CST What defines popularity? Well, the truth is, there a couple of specific factors like a wide range of its followers or perhaps it has already become a household name. However, there are simply other things as to how one would define popularity. Take Auto Parts Corner, for example. This online store has been one of the most popular online stores that offers auto parts and accessories. For Consumer Guide, popularity for vehicles is measured by visitors clicks and visits on the vehicles page and information site. Also, it includes the ratings that the visitors have given these vehicles. The ratings ranges from 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. At present, here are the list of vehicles that has made it to the most popular list: * 2006 Toyota Camry 9 points * 2006 Mazda 6 8 points * 2006 Nissan Altima 8 points * 2006 Ford Escape 8 points * 2006 Acura TL 9 points * 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 points * 2006 Honda Pilot 10 points * 2006 Honda CR-V 10 points * 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt 8 points
Mini-SUV, anyone? Tue, 21 Feb 2006 16:18:33 CST Was browsing the net after ordering new fender flares and hubcaps for my latest face-lifting project (my sister's five-year old Miata) from Auto Parts Corner when I chanced upon this bit of news from Inside Line: Geneva Preview: Toyota's Trendy Urban Cruiser Concept. According to Inside Line, Toyota's latest concept is a "design exercise...for a futuristic mini SUV." Well obviously, this mini-SUV is certainly not for off-roading because as the name suggests the Urban Cruiser is primarily intended to be stylish, not to slog through mud, much like the trendy European soft-roaders like the Citroen C3 XTR and the Volkswagen Polo Fun. Looks like we're in the age of the minis, indeed.
U.S. addicted to Oil, says Bush Wed, 8 Feb 2006 18:51:05 CST America is addicted to oil, and the President would have none of it. This he made clear Tuesday evening in his annual State of the Union speech. President Bush has already stated earlier that he has no plans of nailing out Detroit's struggling automakers. Bush encouraged an increase in federal research into alternative fuels, like ethanol made from sources other than corn. He also pushed for new nuclear power plants along with increases in wind, solar and clean-coal technologies. American automakers do not exactly have stellar reputations when it comes to pursuing fuel-efficient vehicles. (Can anyone spell SUV?) Compared to its Japanese competitors, our friends in Detroit have some serious catching up to do in terms of fuel efficiency. While Toyota's domestic passenger cars averaged 34.3 miles per gallon and Honda's 36.7 mpg in 2005, GM's domestic passenger cars averaged only 28.8 mpg, with Ford's averaging 28.2 and DaimlerChrysler's 28.7 mpg. The success of the Toyota Prius however now has every automaker scurrying to offer their own hybrid vehicles. Aside from Toyota and Honda, Ford, Chevrolet and GM are now also offering their hybrid models. The latest to join the hybrid bandwagon is GM which would be offering a hybrid Cadillac Escalade come 2007. Now that it's clear that the Bush administration is pushing for less oil use, we can expect our favorite automakers to offer more efficient cars, trucks and SUVs. We can also do our part by making sure that our own vehicles are properly maintained and that we drive them responsibly. Should you need to replace your Ford catalytic converter, or your Nissan starter, or your Jeep wheels - just click on to trusted online auto parts stores like Auto Parts Corner.
Ford to build recyclable cars? Fri, 27 Jan 2006 00:27:51 CST Looks like Ford is aiming to make the ultimate environmental statement. According to company officials, Ford has reportedly begun a secret research project that will result in the ultimate green vehicle - a car that can be completely recycled. The mission, known within the company as the "Piquette Project" (after the name of the Detroit plant where the original Model T was designed), has a goal of "developing renewable, clean and safe vehicles that would be both socially conscious and provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace." According to media reports, the struggling U.S. automaker hopes to have something to show by 2008 as part of the company's celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Model T. Ideally, the desired end product should be a fully recyclable car based somewhat on the Model U concept from 2003, its recyclability stemming from the fact that it will be completely easy to disassemble; and that all parts not reusable in automaking will be biodegradable. Considering how Americans love to buy new cars and dispose their old vehicles before their supposed lifespan is over, building recyclable cars should be an excellent idea. If Ford will be successful - they could very well surpass Toyota's reputation as the premiere environmentally conscious automaker on the planet. But until Ford gets around to making those recyclable cars, we'll have to rely on proper maintenance of our vehicles, responsible driving, and reliable online auto parts stores like Auto Parts Corner to extend our vehicle's life. With just a few click on your PC you can get top of the line auto parts including Ford fender flares, radiators, door handles and more at Auto Parts Corner.
Watch out for these cars Mon, 23 Jan 2006 22:55:50 CST Every year, we get to see new cars introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. But how many of them will actually have the potential to change what people will be driving in the immediate future? Very few, really. CNN/Money, along with James Bell, publisher of the automotive consumer magazine and Web site IntelliChoice, and David Champion, director of auto testing for Consumer Reports magazine, has selected six cars that they think bear watching out for in the year ahead. According to CNN/Money, they aren't sure if their picks would be great cars, what they are sure of is that they're all important. Best of all, their picks will come relatively cheap. Unless you don't intend to replace your vehicle for the rest of your earthly days -“ which isn't really bad if you are taking great care of your car and have reliable online auto parts stores like Auto Parts Corner where you can get your new A/C condensers, bumpers, lights, catalytic converter or starter - you might as well take a peek at what CNN/Money thinks are the next big cars: Volkswagen EOS -" Volkswagen's new attention-getting new model. If it's well made, the EOS would seem to be a promising product and just the sort of thing to inject a little excitement into what had become a rather timid-seeming brand. Honda Fit - The Fit is really here as a representative of three new cars: the Fit, the Toyota Yaris and the Nissan Versa. All are small (therefore more fuel-efficient) and, most importantly, are expected to be about as cheap as new cars get. Toyota Camry - The redesigned Camry introduces something really new: a design some people may actually dislike. Camrys have always been good-looking in a bland, Everyman kind of way. But Toyota's new front end treatment and the new Camry's more curvaceous look may be a turn-off to some. Jeep Compass - This is a car designed for buyers who like the idea and style of Jeep vehicles but don't want the reality of owning a genuine off-roader. (The rough ride and all that, you know.) The question is will the fakery of the off-road look bother potential buyers? Ford Edge - Now that everyone already has an SUV, buyers who want that SUV utility are looking for something that will set them apart a bit. The Edge's futuristic look, while not as avant-garde as the Nissan Murano, for example, makes a stylish, forward-looking statement. Lexus LS460 - While European luxury automakers blame their cars' technical complexity for poor quality ratings -- you have to expect a few bugs in all that wiring, right? -- Lexus, which has built its name on quality, dives right in with a car that leaves no bell unrung and no whistle untooted. There. Have a favorite already?
Technology won't make you invincible Sat, 7 Jan 2006 01:13:36 CST I couldnt help but nod in agreement to Autoblogs Eric Bryant when he says, ok, enough with the technology reigns supreme crap. Of course, having the latest technological innovation in your car is a good thing. After all, many of todays automotive technology have been designed to make driving our vehicles better and safer. Indeed, having technology such as stability control, active cruise control, and pre-safety systems are only as good as having a driver with the proper attitude and understanding about the seriousness of operating an automobile. I also wonder about the wisdom of driving around in a vehicle which has plasma TV screens inside, x-boxes, crazy sound system and all those incredible add-ons you see sometimes in shows like Pimp My Ride. Its one thing to want to express your individuality, but having an excess of these things enough to distract you from the real purpose of having the car (getting from point A to point B) is completely another. Also, some people tend to get some sort of false sense of security when behind the wheels of certain cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with the latest in automobile technology. Technology is great, but to make it really effective, it should be coupled with good old common sense. It really boils down to being a responsible driver. And that includes keeping your vehicle in shape. For your auto parts needs like replacement Ford headlights, Acura mirrors, Toyota hubcaps and more, just check out Auto Parts Corner, your trusted source of quality auto parts.
George Clooney take me home Sat, 7 Jan 2006 01:11:15 CST The holidays = parties = more drunks on the road than usual. And who do Americans want to drive them home when they’re under the influence? Autoblog reports: Drunks want Katie Couric and George Clooney as Designated Drivers. The report was based on Anheuser-Busch’s annual Designated Driver Survey in celebration of its “self-proclaimed†National Designated Driver Week (December 11-17). According to Autoblog: “the poll found that a plurality of the respondents would most prefer George Clooney and Katie Couric to drive their drunk asses home, with the pair garnering 41 percent of the vote. Coming in second was Mariah Carey, with Tom Cruise and Orlando Bloom following close behind. The HUMMER topped out the list as the vehicle respondents would most like to be driven home in, with Mustang, MINI Cooper and Corvette behind it.†The report also shared an encouraging note that showed a whopping 97 percent of respondents were familiar with the concept of a designated driver, with 21-24 year-olds leading the pack in using them with 86 percent of respondents having been a DD or having been the lucky recipient of a ride home by a DD. Nevertheless, I’m still reminding everyone to not drink and drive, and to keep their vehicles in shape, as winter can be harsh even on the most reliable vehicles. Should you need to replace your Honda, Volkswagen or Chevy's lights, mirrors, tires or wiper arms, you can always check out the wide selection of quality auto parts at Auto Parts Corner. I don’t see anyone wanting to get behind the wheel of your car if it looks like it’s going to head them off to trouble.
Japanese sweep Motor Trend awards Sat, 7 Jan 2006 01:09:16 CST Clearly, the Japanese are here. Three Japanese vehicles won the coveted Motor Trends honors for 2006: the Honda Civic for Car of the Year, the Nissan Xterra for Sport Utility Vehicle of the Year, and the Honda Ridgeline for Truck of the Year. Also getting nod from the influential Kelley Blue Book as the “Best Redesigned Vehicle for 2006â€, the earth-generation 2006 Honda Civic is yet another overachiever from a company which has built a stellar reputation for technical innovation and creativity. Sold as a sedan, coupe, sporty hatch and hybrid, each is exemplary - strong design and performance, enjoyable driving, affordable pricing ($14,360 to $23,350), and fuel-efficiency. There is no doubt, from the happy grins on the faces of Honda Civic fans – that Honda once again has pulled off a winner. One of the most powerful V6s in its class, the Nissan Xterra raises the bar in terms of engineering, design, performance and safety – a perfect fit for budget-minded buyers seeking maximum utility and off-road capability. The 2006 Honda Ridgeline is simply in a class by itself with the plush and roomy cabin stuffed with amenities, the comfortable car-like ride, powerful V-6 engine, the security of all-wheel drive and world-class safety features, plus a good-size pickup bed with a truly amazing twist (a hidden, lockable trunk under the floor) – there truly isn’t anything quite like it. Anyone who’s ever owned any of these three excellent vehicles also know that quality auto parts like hubcaps, starters, A/C condensers, mirrors, fenderss and engine parts for Honda and Nissanr vehicles can be found at trusted online auto parts stores like Auto Parts Corner.
Solstice up against Civic, Fusion for NACOTY award Tue, 20 Dec 2005 01:39:42 CST Earlier in this blog I raved about the hotness of the roadster. Today the 2-door, 2-passenger convertible sports car is GM's newest star, winning over critics and earning respect especially after being taken for test drives (usually with its closest rival, the Mazda MX-5). And who could resist the Solstice's sexy, curvy, fresh good looks, superior driving performance and comfort, and that famous base sticker price of $19,995? I sure can't. Forbes Autos says, The Solstice is one of the most stylish convertibles on the road at any price. Its clean design rivals that of the twice-as-expensive Porsche Boxster and is more imaginative than the Mercedes-Benz SLK. The Solstice summarily trumps the familiar and conservative look of its only direct rival, the new-for-2006 MX-5 Miata. And with the recent announcement of the Pontiac Solstice being one of the three finalists for the 2006 North American Car of the Year awards, along with the bestselling Honda Civic (a very tough competitor indeed) and the boldly designed Ford Fusion – the Pontiac's place among today's great cars is cemented. You could only wish that GM will make more cars that excite as much as the Solstice. The latest I heard was that the giant (but problematic) automaker is going back to the ‘50s for inspiration for their next models. We might just see flashy vehicles reminiscent of the revered 1957 Chevy Bel Air, with certain twists of course - in the near future. But for now, let's keep our current set of wheels in shape. For those who might need to replace the wheels, mirrors, catalytic converters, or headlights of their trusty GMC C/K Full Size Pickup or Chevy Blazer, just click over to Auto Parts Corner.
Top 10 best and worst cars for city driving Tue, 20 Dec 2005 01:36:41 CST Living in the city means that you have to have a car that helps you navigate congested city roads, avoid gridlock, survive restrictive parking situations and possibly, short-tempered drivers. Here are the most important things to take note of when choosing a car for city driving, according to Forbes Autos: * The turning radius — measured as the outer radius of a circle that the car would make with the steering wheel cranked all the way * The footprint of a car — its overall length and width (The bigger the car, the harder it will be to manage on roads crammed with double-parked vehicles and loading/unloading trucks) * Ease of ingress and egress (since you’ll be getting in and out of your vehicle frequently) * Outward visibility — how well you can see cars ahead as well as those next to you * Ride comfort at low speeds * Handling control * Weight of the vehicle (the lighter vehicles tend to be more nimble on the roads) And the top 10 best choices for city driving? Forbes Autos says: 1. BMW 325i 2. Mini Cooper 3. Scion xA/xB 4. Volvo V50 5. Saab 9-2X 6. Mercedes-Benz C-Class 7. Scion tC 8. Audi A4 9. Acura RSX 10. Acura TSX And if there’s the best, there’s gotta be the worst right? Here’s the list of the 10 worst cars for city driving: 1. Hummer H1 Alpha 2. Maybach Type 62 3. Rolls-Royce Phantom VI 4. Cadillac Escalade ESV 5. Hummer H2 6. Lincoln Town Car 7. Infiniti QX56 8. Buick Park Avenue Ultra 9. Bentley Arnage RL 10. Lincoln Navigator I recently bought a Scion tC, and I’m perfectly happy that this small car is able to help me avoid the headache of navigating through the urban jungle everyday. I love that I’m able to park quite easily in the smallest of spots, take three of my friends for a nice ride, speed away from stoplights, dart into traffic gaps and, best of all – customize my car. All I have to do is click on to Auto Parts Corner, choose from their various selections of premium quality auto parts and I can add bumpers, spoilers – even convert my regular doors to Wingdoors. City driving stressful? Well, not really.
Know your car Mon, 5 Dec 2005 23:40:50 CST Have you been having trouble handling your vehicle lately? Has your Ford F150 been difficult to steer in a straight line, or has the ride in your Nissan Sentra been quite bumpy for the past few days? Your vehicle might be telling you something. But how do you figure out what it is? Here are some of the things to look for when your driving experience doesn’t feel quite right: Steering * Wandering or difficulty steering in a straight line can be caused by misaligned front wheels and/or worn steering components such as the idler arm or ball joints. * Pulling, the vehicle's tendency to steer to the left or right, can be caused by something as simple as under-inflated tires, or as serious as a damaged or misaligned front end.
