Comment on iPod Hack – iPod Video becomes iPod Classic (How To) by BigDaddyWeaves

Do you by ANY chance have any OTHER firm-wares for the 5/5.5G iPods? I have quite a few but I am missing quite a bunch. I have a rare firm-ware for you if you'd like it, it's no longer found online (practically a ghost town with these firm-wares eh?).

Unmountable Boot Volume Sorted! Hi Ken, thanks for your article, i managed to fix the problem. I just would like to share how i did find way out to the problem. I did follow your instruction (very detailed and handy for all users even the beginners) but after putting the installation cd (the original) the pc wasn't able to access to the Cd dirve even after i did change on the BIOS setting the CD-Drive putting it on the top of the list. I did run the diagnostic, all of them express, full and custom and i did find 3 errors 2 on the hard drive and 1 on the optical drive (cd drive). I made the last attempt but this time pressing F12 after rebooting the Pc and selecting from the menu CD-Drive. The Cd-drive started run well and i was able following your instruction reboot my pc without getting the blu screen of death.. i still can't believe it after an entire day reading topics and almost giving up! Thanks a lot for the brilliant article. Cheers Riccardo

Hi Ken I have run the re-installation disk with chkdsk, chkdsk /p , chkdsk /r, fixboot c with no problems. However I am still getting the blue screen of death with the unmountable boot volume message. Any ideas or is my hard disc really fried. There were no errors when I ran the command prompts. Keeping my finger crossed you have some ideas!

MAYBEY I SHOULD JUST THROW IT AWAY!!??? Yes, ive read the fix steps you've provided here, (and the same things on other sites) but my DELL INSPIRON MINI doesnt HAVE a CD drive!! Or an external CD port station, or whatever they are called. I go from start-up teling me to hit F8 to get more options, to blue screen with UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME. Error xo- blah, blah..... and their service tech doesn't do anything but give me the run around between this department and that department. How do I fix this thing? Or maybe I should just throw it away?

hi ken, i am using dell vostro when ever i switch on the system it shows some error has occurred try safe mode or safe mode with networking and it shows windows loading and showing a blue screen and come to same safe mode screen again.if i try safe mode or restore with recent configuration no use. i have tried to repair or install windows xp os by configuring bios setting as you said by keeping cd/dvd at first. it goes up to press enter to install os and f3 to repair those three steps. If i choose repair or install it shows no hard disk found error. Please kindly help me i want to restore my file and back up and get system running.

To make this article (and its valuable "Speak Your Mind" section) a continued "one stop shop" for this particular "Blue Screen of Death" experience, I offer a tidbit about the "1. F:\minint" option: Since only one character can be entered, type in "1" and hit the "Enter" key. The prompt will, then, read: "F:\minint>". Type "chkdsk /r c:". (Do not use " and be mindful of necessary "Space Bar" activity.) Computer should whirl to life, and get busy "checking disk" C! (This took over an hour for me. When done, the screen should note that "CHKDSK found and fixed one or more errors..." ) Then, onto "chkdsk /p c:" and, lastly, "fixboot c:" as indicated in this article. Also, I had better luck finding detailed/relevant info more easily/quickly on "F:\minint" using Bing - a Microsoft (creator of Windows) search engine, than with Google. Thank you, Ken! Your article lives on into the double-aught teen years ( Feb. 2013). Thank you, all, for your comments. Your issues & solutions made the recovery of my data possible (My computer is back to normal, to boot!) P.S. I have no computer repair training, just a strong D-I-Y/hands-on drive (that is fueled by continued successes like this), a tad of (un)common sense, and the idea to cross-reference, cross-reference, cross-reference! Good luck and have fun with it!
